Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $500 Toby is a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix who came to DPS after his former home was no longer able to give him the attention and love he deserved. We accepted him with open arms and full hearts and showed this boy the best start to his second chance. He has spent some time decompressing in his foster home and is now ready to find a forever home of his very own!    Below is a note from Toby’s foster. “Toby is a textbook JRT and lovers of the breed won’t get better than this boy! He takes a bit of time to settle into his environment, but once he does, he is yours forever. Toby loves his foster mom and follows her around the house. He loves his daily walks and looks forward to them eagerly every day. Toby is so sweet and snuggly as well though. He loves to cuddle on the couch as we watch TV! The cutest thing about Toby? How he curls up under the covers at night. Toby is a sweet and happy dog who also loves to romp around and play with the best of them. Toby is fabulous at fetch (okay he is fabulous 80% of the time but we promised not to tell). Toby is also very smart and loves his brain toys, rooting around for a snack!  Toby wakes up at 7 AM and heads out for a quick potty break. He has breakfast and then settles in for a morning nap as we start our day. He spends his early afternoon exploring the backyard and gets another short walk. He has dinner at 6 PM and then gets a longer walk. At night, he hangs out with us while we watch TV before getting ready for bed. Toby sleeps through the night! Toby is fully house trained. He is fine in his crate but also happily snuggles into his dog beds placed around the house Toby adores playing with other dogs and would love a playmate in his new home, or a local community of dogs. He is very much a teenager in the sense that he loves to romp until he is ready for rest. Truly, what more could you ask for?  Toby is only an option for those who have owned a dog previously. We will be looking for a home who is ready to handle the love of the terrier breed. Children should be over the age of 10.April 12, 2024, 10:21 pm

Story
Meet Maddy! She's one adorable JRT mix around a year old . This beautiful girl wins over every single person who meets her, she is kind, gentle and a loving soul. Maddy loves other dogs and people so much. She’s crate trained and does well in the house. Maddy was diagnosed with a birth defect of her heart called pulmonic stenosis and sadly is a poor candidate for surgery. She is on heart medications for the rest of her life and the cardiologist said she could live between 1-5 years. We are looking for a forever foster (or open to adopter) for this beautiful girl … She can live a pretty normal life for whatever time she has here. We will cover costs of her medications and any other costs. We provide food, crate and all supplies.

Thank you for your inquiry. Trigger has an adopter but we have to wait for them to go pick him up after the stay at home is lifted. Once he is picked up we will remove his profile. Please do not write to us for an application. Sorry for any inconvenience. Trigger is only 11 inches tall and 19 pounds. He has all the wonderful traits you expect in a Jack Russell Terrier. He is very affectionate. He is about 7 years old and a snuggle bug that lost his previous person to illness and is looking for his own person to worship. He loves to lie out in the sun and go in the garage to look for mice. He plays okay with other dogs of all sizes. He would love to be an only dog if his person was around a lot but he wouldn’t like being left alone for 8 hours a day without canine company. He is untested with cats. Trigger is ok with children over 7 years old. He loves giving and getting lots of attention. Adores treats, walks, car rides and cuddles. He is an active kind of guy, always looking for adventures in everyday life. He is a real character and is full of love for his people. He sleeps in his bed all night long though he really would prefer yours so he can cuddle with you. He is a very quiet and smart dog who understands what you are saying to him. Trigger really is a sweetie pie that needs a forever home with someone who will love him forever. Trigger is being fostered in San Francisco. His adoption fee is $275.00. Please contact us for more info or an application to adopt at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received.

Story
Bugsy is a great buddy to have around. He is about 18 lbs and around 6- 7 years old. He enjoys going on walks and loves to wander around in the yard in his wheels or scooting along, play with his toys, happy all snuggled up with his people, and just hanging around. Bugsy loves the toys at his foster home and doesn’t mind sharing them. He is the sweetest and most loving guy you will ever meet. He has been around all sizes and breeds of dogs and gets along great with them He enjoys the company of other dogs but he would be just as happy to be an only dog if his person was around most of the time to keep him company. If not then he needs a canine companion for company. Bugsy is very affectionate but doesn’t require a ton of attention to be content.  He is pretty low-maintenance and will happily follow your lead. Bugsy doesn’t use his back legs but do not be fooled since he is still an active guy and can go many places with his wheels or rear harness. He is very good around young kids and lives with one now. Bugsy is exceptionally loving and eager to please. He knows what he is being told and if you are looking for a smarty to be part of your family he is the guy. He will bring lots of warmth and terrier-silliness to your home. Give him a chance and he will steal your heart. Bugsy also needs a new foster home if not adopted. He is now being fostered in Belmont, CA and his adoption fee is $275. Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received. Please contact us at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com for more information about this great guy or for an application to adopt.

Story
~Spanky~ 4 years old Breed: Terrier Mix/Boarder Collie Weight: 25 lbs House Trained Male Sweet and spirited Spanky is an endearing blend of affectionate and active. Once his foster mom earned his trust, she earned his loyalty and love. Despite his size, Spanky sees himself as a lap dog, calmly snuggling with her and being petted and held although he does enjoy spending time on his own. Always curious and always up for adventure, he gets along well with other dogs, enjoys running in the park (he’s excellent off leash), pulling on rope, playing with – and tearing apart – chew toys and going for car rides with his head out the window. Motivated by food and treats and a fondness for blueberries, he knows “come” and “sit”, isn’t a fan of being wiped down or cleaned, and barks at passersby outside the backyard. He also has a tendency to resource guard around his doggy foster brother, and prefers to sniff new people before they pet him. For these reasons, Spanky is best suited to a loving home with patient adopters who will earn his trust, continue his socialization and complete his doggy education in return for his enduring loyalty and love. Spanky is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. To meet or adopt Spanky, fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you shortly. Story
Elsa is a 3.5 month old female Jack Russell terrier mix puppy who we think will be a small/medium sized adult. She has a beautiful white face and is cute as a button! Elsa was found with her 4 litter mates abandoned on a beach in La Paz, Baja California Sur at just 4 weeks old. A whole community of neighbors pitched in to care for the litter, socializing them and making sure they were fed, vaccinated and healthy. Since then, she has thrived in her foster home with her litter mates, and spends her days playing in her puppy pool, napping and playing keep away with her siblings. She is a lovable little girl who is now fully vaccinated, sterilized and ready to be someone's forever pup!Elsa will be at the adoption event at the PetSmart in Campbell on November 11th and November 12th, 2023. Come on down and meet Elsa!

These pups are in Half Moon Bay, California too!

Story
Five year old Max was surrendered to the Hollister Animal Shelter. From talking with the Shelter staff, Max was not a stranger to them. His original owner left Max and his brother with a friend who surrendered them to the shelter when they were very young. The boys were adopted out. In 2023 they came back to the Shelter as strays. Again they were adopted out but came back to the Shelter this January as an owner surrender because of a bite incident. The shelter felt there was something odd about the bite report because they could not verify the the report with the "victim". Max is a sweet little boy who is a little hand and new people shy. Once he gets to know you he just wants to be close to his person. He gets along with other dogs. He is learning how to take treats from your fingers gently. He is current with his vaccinations, is neutered and micro-chipped and has tested negative for heartworms. He gets very nervous about being closed in small spaces and crates. We think that because he was in so many homes as a young dog, he has some separation anxiety about being left alone. Max needs a family who is patient and understanding and can give this little guy time for the diamond inside to emerge and shine. Is that your family? Please note: Max would do best as an only childMax is nervous around men and womenMax has some separation anxietyMax needs lots of exerciseNeeds a securely fenced yardMore information & application [ts=1712991691&src=aap]
