Hi, I’m Banjo!I`m quite the social butterfly and do well meeting new people and new dogs! I have had a rough first year of life, spending time in a few different homes. I do like to get into things when I`m bored or stressed and, since I`m such a large fella, I can reach things on counters pretty easily. I don`t like when humans take things from me and can be possessive in these cases. I`ve made some good progress with resource guarding training but will need a human who can continue this good work - who has the time to make sure I get lots of enrichment through walks, play, puzzles, etc. and who has the patience and interest in helping me learn not to get into things - like shoes and stuff on the counter.I can also be sensitive and worry sometimes that bad things might happen to me. Therefore, I will need a kind and gentle human who doesn`t yell at me or do scary things when they`re unhappy with me. This will make sure I am set up for success and make good progress in my training. I`m a smart boy who is motivated by toys/play and yummy treats. I`m a delight to walk and will snuggle up with you as much as you would like! MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: Teenagers should be good, but no young kids given my tendency to steal items and guard them.OTHER DOGS: Yes, a friendly dog in the home would be a great way to help burn some of my energy and help keep me out of trouble. CATS: I could be a good match with a cat confident around large dogs, after a proper introduction.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: No, given my history of resource guarding and continued management and training, I will be best set up for success with a family who has experience.FENCED-IN YARD: Not required.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any, as long as you have a realistic plan for meeting my exercise needs as a young, large dog! Annie had a difficult start to life after being found as a tiny puppy suffering from malnutrition, parasites, and even a coatimundi bite. Thankfully, those days are behind her. After spending time in foster care, Annie has grown into a sweet, gentle girl who is learning that life can be full of good things, and she's ready to find a forever family to continue that journey. Annie is the definition of an easygoing companion. She loves the simple things in life: curling up beside her people, heading out for walks, exploring the backyard, enjoying a stuffed Kong, and accepting as many belly rubs as you're willing to give. She's incredibly food motivated, recently discovered the joy of toys, and has a playful, goofy side that's becoming more apparent as her confidence grows. She has even been known to proudly carry slippers or hats around the house without ever damaging them, giving her family a little smile along the way. While Annie can still be a little shy when meeting new people, she has made incredible progress in her new foster home. Her curiousity now shines through much more quickly, and once she feels comfortable, she's affectionate, loyal, and happiest simply being close to her family. Annie has not been formally tested with children. Based on her gentle, easygoing nature, we think she'd do well with respectful, dog-savvy kids who understand canine body language and are happy to let her settle in at her own pace. Annie would thrive in a home that offers a balance of adventure and relaxation. She enjoys two daily walks, exploring parks and trails, and relaxing outdoors, but she's just as content spending the evening cuddled up on the couch. Loud or unexpected noises can still surprise her from time to time, but she continues to gain confidence every day. She is wonderfully social with other dogs and would likely love a friendly, well-mannered canine companion. Another dog could help continue to build her confidence and provide companionship while her family is away. Annie has not been tested with cats, but based on her calm, respectful nature, we think she may do well with a dog-savvy cat following slow, proper introductions. Annie is potty trained, has lovely house manners, and is eager to learn. She walks nicely on leash, responds well to gentle guidance, and is highly motivated by treats. Like many dogs adjusting to home life, she's still learning to feel comfortable being left alone for longer periods. She'll do best with a family committed to helping her build independence gradually through patience, routine, and enrichment. Annie does occasionally have a slight limp, but it doesn't slow her down or impact her daily life. She still enjoys walks, exploring, playing, and keeping up with her adventures. At this time, it isn't affecting her quality of life, but we want potential adopters to be aware as it may require monitoring as she gets older. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate dog who will happily join you on adventures before curling up beside you at the end of the day, Annie may just be your perfect match. Watching her confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding, and we can't wait to see her continue to blossom with the family she'll soon call her own. This handsome boy was adopted earlier this year but sadly returned just a month later. Pongo is a truly special pup who needs an equally special home to match. At just 6 months old and 45 lbs, Pongo is full of energy, smarts, and heart. While we were told he might be a Border Collie/Lab mix, we aren’t entirely sure, what we do know is that he won’t get too much bigger and that he’s 100% adorable. Pongo can be nervous in new situations or around unfamiliar people, but he’s been working so hard to overcome this. He even spent several weeks with our friends at stylek9dogtraining, where he learned amazing skills that will set him up for success. His future family will continue his journey with a few follow up classes, already covered in his adoption fee, because consistency is key for this sensitive boy. What makes Pongo amazing: Walks beautifully on leash, calmly and politely (even sitting at stops!) Crate trained & fully housebroken Snuggle king who always wants to be near his people Playful, smart, and food motivated, he learns fast! Loves doggy friends, is good with cats, and would thrive with or without another dog in the home Because of his nervous nature, Pongo would do best with older, dog savvy kids. A yard to run, play, and chase squirrels would be a dream for him. Chance is a 1.5 year old, 75 lb,  Black Lab/American Bulldog mix. His family loves him dearly but he is determined to chase and pin the cats in his home and, for that reason, his family is hoping to rehome him to a new home without cats or small animals. He is house and crate trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date with all of his vaccinations. He sleeps all night in the crate and is fine crated during the day while his people are at work.  They are currently crating him when they can't watch him for the safety of the cats. Chance is a medium energy dog who is food motivated and eager to learn. He has had some basic obedience training and walks well on a leash.    He loves his walks and playing fetch or a good game of tug in the yard. Chance has limited experience with other dogs and has not lived with another dog but has been OK meeting and greeting other dogs of a similar or bigger size on leash walks. We would not recommend a home with a smaller dog based on his behaviour with cats. He doesn't travel in the car often but when he does he lays down or just looks out the windows.  He has demonstrated some guarding behaviour with items like shoes, dish towels, and balls but will easily trade those treasures for a higher value item such as a food treat.  Chance is a bit of a bull in a china shop and may run into or knock down young children and, due to this and his resource guarding, we recommend a home without children 12 years and under.  If you feel this dashing doggy would be a great fit for your home please complete the Adoption Application on our website.   Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog.   Piper is a beautiful nine-year-old Labrador/Greyhound/Shepherd who weighs about 70 pounds. She is a sweet, well-trained dog who loves people and thrives on close companionship. Piper’s favorite place is right beside her humans, curled into her signature “donut” shape.  One of Pipers favourite enrichment activities is a snifari; she will wait patiently in another room while treats are hidden around the house, then eagerly search them out with focus and determination. She also enjoys long, slow walks where she can stop and sniff everything along the way. Piper's ears are expert level alert - especially when it comes to cucumber slices - and it's rumoured she can hear one being cut from anywhere in the house! Piper is housetrained and used to apartment living, doing all her toileting on leash walks. She is calm when left alone during the workday and does not bark or become destructive. She is comfortable with baths, brushing, nail trims, grooming visits, and vet care. She knows several commands including sit, down, come, stay, off, and paw. She walks nicely on leash but is reactive to other dogs when they are within about 15–20 feet, a behaviour that developed after a negative dog park experience years ago. Her family manages this by keeping distance and avoiding close encounters. Piper is friendly and excited to greet adult visitors, though she may bark briefly at the door before settling quickly. Piper does best in a calm, adult-only home without other animals. She is very uncomfortable around young children and has shown increased anxiety and barking when exposed to them. Her experience with cats is unknown, though she may have a high prey drive. In the car, she can be anxious, pacing and whining, and she has had motion sickness on longer trips. Piper is healthy and up to date on vet care.  She does receive a fiber supplement to support her anal glands. What Piper needs most is a quiet, stable home where she can feel safe and included. She is loyal, silly, and deeply affectionate, waiting for her perfect someone to hit the adopt button and sign up for all the unconditional love they could hope for.   Obtained From: Rehomed from another home at about 1 year old. Reason for Intake: Piper is not comfortable around toddlers  Up to Date with Vetting Dogs: She is reactive to other dogs on leash closer than 15-20 feet.  She has had very little experience with dogs in the past 5-6 years.  When they first got her she did go to the dog park but was attacked there. Cats: Unknown but she has a high prey drive. Kids: She has very little experience with children. Previous owner cottaged for 3 days with children under 10 years old and after about 24 hours she seemed to become more concerned with them and started barking and reacting to them especially when her owners were engaged with the kids.   Resource guarding issues: Not from people.  Unknown with other animals. Car rides: She is anxious in the car and paces and whines.  She has had motion sickness in the past on longer trips. She has been left alone for a full work day. They live in an apartment and have not had noise complaints. She has not been crated since they initially got her 7-8 years ago. Energy Level: Medium Leash skills: She walks well on leash.  After training, she is reactive to dogs closer than about 20 feet.  They typically cross the street when they see other dogs and they do not meet other dogs on walks.  She does not show concern with people, vehicles, etc. on walks. Okay with physical handling/manipulations: Yes.  They can bathe her, brush her, and trim her nails.  She is professionally groomed every couple of months and is good at the groomer.  She is fine being handled at the vet.  She has been boarded by Rover providers and done well in those homes. Food on now: Fromm kibble.  1 cup, 2x/day. Behavioural issues: She is reactive to other dogs on leash closer than about 20 feet now.  She has shown similar reactive behaviour with young children when staying with them. Medical issues: She is taking Canine Fiber Pumpkin Powder for her anal glands. Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog.
