Story
Zion has been with PAWS for 331 days. He was adopted as a puppy and returned three years later as a fearful and skittish adult who had learned that he could get himself out of a stressful situation by using his teeth. Since being at the shelter, Zion's confidence in other people has grown tremendously, and his circle of friends increases weekly; he has never felt the need to communicate by nipping, and we are so proud of him. This week Zion is having a much needed break with one of his trusted friends and he is making the most of every minute. Zion is house trained, gets along well with almost every dog he meets, can be left in a room unsupervised, and he can catch a frisbee like a pro (see video). Zion is a very pretty little dog who runs around like a show pony doing dressage; effortlessly elegant yet totally goofy at the same time. Zion is SO ready for another shot at being someone's beloved pet. He needs a home with people who understand that he needs time to feel safe- older kids or no kids- and maybe another dog to play with. He will surprise and amuse you on a daily basis, and steal your heart (and your chair) with his uniquely charming ways.

Not good with dogs,
Story
Chula is a pretty little lab mix who loves eating and swimming, as all self-respecting labs do. She will need an active lifestyle and a good-sized yard to use up that energy. Chula tested positive for heartworms and is eligible for the "slow kill method", meaning she won't have to endure months of confinement and painful injections. Chula has had many great interactions with other dogs here and is not short of options when it comes to recess buddies. She has shown us that she can share toys and play "tug" and accept defeat when her friend wins the prize. Chula LOVES her stuffed toys and will always pick one up to carry in her mouth when someone goes to visit her. She gets to spend a lot of time in the office and absolutely thrives with regular human attention. Chula has lived with another dog before, and whilst they co-existed really well initially, they got into a scuffle over some human food (Chula's favoritist thing of all), so anyone wanting to adopt Chula as a companion for their current dog will need to be very savvy and able to manage the environment to prevent this from happening in the future.

Story
Frankie is a handsome young man with the energy and enthusiasm to be man's best friend. We pulled him from a municipal shelter when he was just ten or so months old, and he has been in several homes since that time, both as a foster dog and an adopted dog. Frankie has so much going for him. He's wicked smart and loves to learn tricks and show them off, and he already knows "sit, "down, "spin, "wait and "shake. He is extraordinarily food/treat motivated, and this can be used to the human's advantage and to keep Frankie's excitement in check. In his most recent foster home Frankie has shown himself to be house trained and well mannered, and had a blast socializing with the resident dogs and doing doughnuts in the kiddie pool. Frankie has had dozens of dog friends at the shelter, from 10lbs Chihuahua mixes to 90lbs Boxers. He is a sensitive and respectful play partner, and one we often pick for our shyer dogs as he will very gently coax them out of their shells until they enjoy their yard time as much as he does. Whilst he's an active boy and loves his play time, he has done well with dogs, livestock, he's also a terrific cuddler, chin-kisser and nap-taker. He needs an adopter who can enforce strong boundaries since Frankie is sure to push them, just like the kid in class who misbehaves because the work isn't challenging enough. Making him work for his food is the key to success with Frankie- puzzle feeders, stuffed kongs and the like, will keep his brain busy and set him up for success. A perfect home for this beautiful boy will be active, dog savvy, ideally with a large kiddie pool and another dog to play with. Resource guarding of food has been an issue in the past, and something potential families will need to consider and be prepared to work on. In his most recent week-long shelter break the foster didn't see any evidence of resource guarding, and in fact, he would only eat his food when she was close to him. Frankie is full of surprises.

Story
Hi there! My name is ROCKY. What’s yours? Nice to meet ya! I am in Houston, TX. I am posted as a transportation destination in numerous cities across the U. S. If you are within driving distance, can you come to Houston to pick me up, please? If you need me to travel to you, I can do that, too! I promise you won't be disappointed. A nice person came along and took me in and, now, I am ready to hit the road to your house! Uh, make that “our” house, OK? I definitely need a house with a fenced-in yard cuz I need room to run and romp and be safe! The rescue requires (1) a fenced-in yard for ALL of its dogs and (2) an Excellent, already-established vet History on a current or previous dog. We would call your vet once you have filled out an application. You don't have to produce vet records beforehand. I am a Labrador Retriever mix, my vet says. I am 1.5 YEARS old and I weigh 68 pounds. I have been neutered and am up to date on vaccines so I'm ready to go to my new home with YOU!! Wanna hear some more good stuff about me? OK, here goes. Here's what people who know me say: He's absolutely the cutest and sweetest dog and would make an awesome addition to any family! He's super easy going and likes to follow you around to see what you are doing. He brings so much joy to everyone around him, and we're hoping to find him a special person or family so he can bring them as much joy as he brings to others! He likes dogs and kids. (See his photos - one with a child and one with another dog.) We haven't tried with cats yet so not sure. He is potty-trained, crate-trained and walks well on a leash. He knows how to sit and lay. We are working on other training skills like stay/heel, and to not jump when people arrive. He's just so excited to greet everyone but doesn't touch them. He just jumps out of excitement.... and gives amazing hugs!!! Will you teach me all the things a young doggie needs to know to be safe and happy? I take treats nicely and I ride nicely in a car. I'm a young and active boy so, if you have human kiddos, they need to be a tad older. I don't want to hurt anyone but I might, accidentally, knock over a toddler and I don't want to do that! Since I was rescued, I like to take naps when I'm tired from playing. I need love, exercise and couch-sitting when we get tired! Let's be a team, OK? If you would like to take me home (and you know you do), please email doggydarlings12@gmail.com and they can get me on my way to a new and loving home!
