Story
Howell/Ace of Hearts is getting over his skittishness and showing his playful, cuddly side. He’s a really sweet, soft, perfect-sized dog (20 lbs), with sweet grey-brown coloring and an adorable heart shaped patch of white fur on his chest. He’s youthful and playful, but has a chill, low-maintenance personality. Right now, he’s bonding with women and slower to come around to men, but that should change with time. With his current foster mom, he is affectionate, obedient and attentive. He cooperates with putting on his harness for walks but lifting each leg in turn, and is very gentle and well behaved on the leash. He seems fine with other dogs, showing interest and appropriate behavior. He likes to play a lot, chasing his new favorite squeaky ball and rag toy, but not manic or zany. He’s very quiet, and has only barked a little when he’s seen a squirrel in a tree and when he gets especially excited to play. He loves to sit outside under a bush chewing on his bone toy for hours. He’s taken to collecting socks and shoes from around the house, but hasn’t chewed on anything except his toys. He’s sleeping well at night in his dog bed. He shows no signs of aggression at all - has a very gentle mouth for taking treats. When he’s uncomfortable, his tail drops and he retreats. He’s going to make a lucky family very happy, and it suited to an active family where a female can take the lead at the beginning and continue to let him relax into his true, sweet, loving nature with everyone.

These castaways washed up on Milo’s doorstep sick and terrified. With proper medical care, good food and daily attention, they are slowly learning they are safe. It’s taking us time to work through the shyness, but it’s very evident that they just want to be with people they love. With patience and TLC, these sweet Shih Tzus are blossoming into loving companions. Gilligan is the quirkiest of this bunch. He is independent but has made huge progress since arriving at our adoption center.

Skipper is the most outgoing and engaged of this bunch. He is bigger than his sibs, and is always in front of them in case they need protecting. He is super playful and food motivated. Once he trusts you he loves to roll over for some belly rubs. These castaways washed up on Milo’s doorstep sick and terrified. Meet Bowser! Bowser is a playful, medium-energy pup who is looking for a patient home that will give him the time and understanding he needs to truly shine. He can be a bit shy at first and appreciates when people approach him mindfully and give him space to warm up at his own pace. Once he feels comfortable, Bowser’s playful personality starts to come out and you’ll see what a fun companion he can be! Bowser would do best in a home with dog-savvy children aged 13 and up who understand how to respect a dog’s boundaries. He can be selective with other dogs, so slow and thoughtful introductions are important. With continued socialization and positive experiences, he has great potential to build confidence around new canine friends. This active boy would love a home with a yard where he can stretch his legs and enjoy playtime. On walks, Bowser can be a little jumpy and may pull on the leash, so continued training and guidance will help him learn good leash manners. He also benefits from ongoing socialization to help him feel more comfortable in new situations. Bowser does have some resource-guarding behaviors, so he will thrive with adopters who are experienced, patient, and willing to work with him to build trust and positive routines. With the right home, Bowser will blossom into a loyal, playful companion who just needs a little time, structure, and understanding to be his best self.
