Story
&#226&#156&#168 Meet Boq Wicked — 6 lbs of tiny, determined heart &#226&#156&#168 Available for Adoption through Umbrella of Hope Boq Wicked is a 9-year-old, 6-pound Maltese mix with a soft black and white coat, a gentle spirit, and a lifetime of stories behind his cloudy eyes. He may be small, but this little gentleman has preferences, routines, and a quirky charm that make him unforgettable to those lucky enough to earn his trust. His Personality Boq is happiest when the world is quiet, steady, and predictable. His absolute favorite part of the day? His walks. He walks beautifully on leash and will trot right alongside you like the world’s tiniest hiking buddy. He gets along well with other dogs, but people are a different story — Boq needs time, patience, and a calm approach before he feels safe with new humans. Once he trusts you, he’s sweet, affectionate in his own gentle way, and very food-motivated. (Blueberries, watermelon, and chicken? Yes, please.) Because Boq is deaf and has limited vision, he can be reactive if startled. He’s not recommended for a home with small children. His perfect match is someone experienced with shy or special-needs pups — someone who recognizes that progress may be slow… but absolutely worth it. Daily Life with Boq • Not fully housebroken, but does well if taken outside regularly • Doesn’t enjoy crates, carriers, or car rides • Likes to explore, sniff, and take in the world on his walks • Occasionally plays with small toys (when the mood strikes) Boq isn’t a turnkey dog — he’s a relationship dog. He needs someone who sees beyond first impressions and understands the quiet magic of earning the trust of a fearful pup. In return, you’ll get loyalty, routine, companionship, and the joy of being his safe place. If you’re patient, compassionate, and looking for a small senior buddy who just needs someone to believe in him, Boq Wicked might be your perfect match. Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereGigi is a tiny, tender-hearted 8-year-old Maltese mix with a calm spirit, a gentle presence, and the most charming little underbite. At just 6 pounds, she is the definition of a low-key, go-with-the-flow companion. In her foster home, Gigi gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes and content to coexist calmly. She enjoys leisurely walks and curling up to rest wherever you are. She is fully potty-pad trained, sleeps soundly through the night, rarely barks, and settles easily when left alone. She also travels like a dream—calm and quiet on public transit, relaxed in busy spaces, and happy to nap wherever life takes her. This sweet senior is friendly, kind, and wonderfully easy to have around. She does have some vision impairment, but once she learns her environment, she moves through it confidently. With her gentle and peaceful nature, Gigi is truly a little lady. She’s looking for a loving home, someone who cherishes senior dogs and understands the beauty of a soft, soulful companion. Story
Bunny is a darling Maltese who has truly been through it, but you’d never know it from her gentle spirit and sweet disposition. This little angel came to us with an old leg injury that had healed incorrectly and made walking painful. After her amputation, Hazel has been so much happier — she moves with ease and confidence now, proving once again that tripods thrive! Bunny is also missing one eye, but trust us… none of this slows her down one bit. She gets around beautifully, enjoys soft naps in cozy beds, and loves nothing more than being close to her person. She’s quiet, affectionate, and an absolutely delightful companion. If you’re looking for a loving little shadow to bring warmth and sweetness into your home, Bunny is your girl. 🫶 Apply to meet her and let this brave, beautiful Maltese melt your heart.

Story
Fourteen small dogs are beginning fresh chapters after being rescued together from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Stockton, where more than 30 dogs were living in severe neglect and unsanitary conditions. These precious pups — a mix of Maltese mixes, Chihuahua mixes, and Terrier mixes — have endured far more than any dog ever should. Many arrived with severe matting and painful urine burns, and we’re getting them all to the groomer to finally feel clean, comfortable, and cared for. Beneath it all, they are truly gorgeous little souls. Understandably, this transition is overwhelming for them. They’re a bit scared and unsure right now — but even through the fear, their sweetness and gentle nature shine through. They lean in for affection, accept love, and remind us just how resilient dogs can be. These babies will need patient, compassionate homes where they can decompress, feel safe, and learn that the world can be kind. In return, they’ll offer deep gratitude, quiet companionship, and the kind of love that only a survivor can give. If you’re looking to make a life-changing difference — for them and for you — one of these little ones may be waiting just for you.

Good with cats,
Story
Tiana is one of fourteen dogs rescued from a hoarding situation in California’s Central Valley. When she arrived, she was severely matted and had clearly gone a very long time without proper care Tiana is timid and quiet, but deeply observant. Her foster shared that when a soft bed was made for her, she climbed right in, as if she somehow knew it was meant just for her. She spent the night resting there peacefully, choosing the crate as her safe space. She is a submissive, gentle dog who responds well to calm verbal direction and makes sweet eye contact, even when she’s unsure. Despite her fearfulness, she has shown no signs of fear-based aggression—no growling, snapping, or teeth. She handled a bath with remarkable tolerance and appears to be comfortable with men. She is also cat-friendly—she allowed a cat to sniff her calmly and chose to retreat when the cat became bold, rather than react. The outside world is still very new and overwhelming for Tiana. She tries to hide when she sees a collar or leash, but if gently guided, she allows them to be put on. Once outside, she often just sits, taking everything in, as if she’s never truly seen the world before. While she hasn’t yet figured out her potty routine, she has not had any accidents indoors, suggesting she may have some house manners already—just waiting for patience and understanding to unlock them. 💫 Tiana will thrive in a quiet, patient home—one that understands that love doesn’t have to be loud, and trust doesn’t happen overnight. She doesn’t need much: a calm environment, gentle guidance, and someone willing to move at her pace. If you’re the kind of person who believes the softest souls are often the most special ones—and that watching a dog learn safety for the first time is a privilege—Tiana may be your girl.

Story
Sweet senior Spencer is a marvelous Maltipoo with a huge doggy grin and a desire to create THE most comfy blanket fort ever. You’ll often spot him burrowing in various beds and laps, selecting carefully among blankets (what criteria is he using? Thread count? Color? Softness?), which is even more impressive when you consider that this little cutie is blind. Spencer is a living embodiment that a disability doesn’t have to slow you down, but he is hoping to quickly find his forever home. Although he can’t see his surroundings, Spencer can see the future where he’s doted on during his golden years in a very cozy home – could it be yours?
