Story
Ebony and Ivory are a bonded pair looking for a forever home together.Ebony (14 lbs.) and Ivory (8 lbs.) were local strays. They were in terrible shape when found and horribly matted. Now that these sweet girls are safe with AHF, they`re looking and feeling so much better. Ivory loves to cuddle, and Ebony is more playful but loves cuddling too. They`re both very loving. We think Ivory is a maltese mix and Ebony may be a schnauzer/shih tzu mix. Both girls walk on leash. They do not get crated when their foster leaves the house and do fine confined to a large room. They get along with the other dogs in their foster home and have been friendly with kids they`ve met at adoption events. Ebony seems potty trained and Ivory is mostly; she`ll sometimes use potty pads if they`re out for other pups.If you have room in your heart and home for Ebony and Ivory, please fill out an application so you can meet them and learn more. Ivory`s Adoption fee is $140Email: dogs@almosthomefoundation.orgAlmost Home Foundation`s adoption requirements:(1) Be at least 21 years of age;(2) Have the consent of all adults living in the household;(3) Have approval from the residence owner;(4) Have valid ID with current address;(5) Be approved by Almost Home Foundation as a suitable adoptive home; and`(6) Live in the suburbs surrounding Schaumburg (Illinois Residents only)*** Please note that Almost Home Foundation accepts only cash, Zelle, or checks for adoption fees; we do not accept debit or credit cards. ***

Story
This 10-year-old Maltese mix may have arrived as a scrappy little stray, but after some well-deserved TLC, he`s cleaned up nicely and ready to reign over a new kingdom. Neptune`s got the charm of a seasoned socialite — he`s friendly, attention-loving, and firmly believes every human exists solely to pet him (he`s not wrong). He gets along just fine with other easygoing dogs, as long as they match his distinguished, relaxed energy. No zoomies. He has a reputation to maintain.True, Neptune`s heart beats to its own rhythm — a murmur that requires daily medication — but his love? That`s absolutely limitless. He`s not a starter pet; he`s a finale pet. The grand, fluffy conclusion to your dog-owning journey.Neptune weighs 16.5lbs

Story
This cutie is BONNIE, a very sweet, initially shy,  3-year-old, 17 pound, female, Maltese/Poodle cross. After a couple days of settling in with her foster family which has adults and teens, they found Bonnie to be easy going, a  “go with the flow”  kind of dog in the home. Her foster home has a couple Bully breed mixes and a couple smaller mixed breed dogs; Bonnie gets along easily with all but her best friend is Kimbo (a little Terrier mix) who is also up for adoption.   Bonnie is housebroken. She is trained to use potty pads but is being trained to toilet outside on the grass and is doing well with that, in part because of the other dogs in her foster home showing her. Bonnie really enjoys spending time in the backyard. She is a bit of a barker so she’s not appropriate for apartment or condo living. Bonnie requires a calmer home that has another dog with whom to socialize and a securely fenced yard.    Because her first owners didn’t introduce Bonnie to other people when she was a puppy, it takes her time to get comfortable with new people. Taking things slowly with her is essential - and it works! Once Bonnie is comfortable, she is very sweet and friendly. She enjoys going for walks but she can be reactive, which is her insecurity and fear to unknown people. She would benefit from continued gentle training to help her not find the world such a scary place. Bonnie’s foster family is taking her for short walks to help her have positive experiences.    This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Story
One of the nicest and sweetest dogs out there! This handsome, little fella is DEXTER, a wonderful, 6 year old, Maltese mix (possibly with Havanese) who weighs around 7 pounds and has an extremely soft coat of different grays. Dexter was stray found in deplorable condition with his coat matted to the skin requiring shaving off. His hair is growing back and will be long and luxurious again in time.      Dexter’s priority is spending time with his person/people. Dexter seeks out your attention and will snuggle up on your tummy or chest if allowed. He’s happy to share your lap too with other dogs; his one favor spot is sitting on a chair to look out the window. Dexter loves the companionship of other small dogs and does great with cats too. He does enjoying playing with toys. Dexter walks well on a leash, is housebroken, and crate trained. His foster mom crates him when she leaves the home.       Based on his behavior in his foster home, he is not a candidate for apartment/condo living due to his barking at noises; he is easily spooked by loud noises on walks like garbage trucks going by. We think this may be caused by him having been strayed and living outside for a period of time. He’s not an “adventure” dog - he’s more of a “home body.”  Dexter thrives in a home where there are other small, friendly dogs and someone home more often. He also enjoys a fenced yard.      This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped; he is housebroken and crate trained. Story
Arnold is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application.Arnold is a distinguished little gentleman with a charming underbite and a heart as soft as his snowy coat. This sweet senior has clearly mastered the art of living well—he’s completely house trained, politely lets you know when he needs to go out, and prefers the simple pleasures of life: a cozy bed, a gentle hand, and a peaceful home. He’s not one for chaos or commotion; Arnold is happiest when he’s lounging nearby, soaking up affection and offering quiet companionship in return.Despite his age, Arnold is wonderfully easygoing with everyone he meets. He gets along beautifully with dogs, cats, and humans of all ages, though he tends to take a “live and let live” approach with other pets. He rarely barks (in fact, almost never!) and doesn’t have a single bad habit to his name. Deaf due to long-term ear issues, Arnold navigates the world in his own calm, unbothered way—ambling through the yard, taking slow strolls around the block, and settling into one of his many favorite nap spots without a care in the world. Arnold does have a few medical needs, including eye medication and ongoing ear care, and he prefers soft food due to having only a few teeth—but what he asks for in care, he gives back tenfold in love. He’s simply looking for a quiet, comfortable place to spend his golden years, surrounded by kindness and warmth. If you’ve got a soft spot for senior pups and a peaceful home to share, Arnold will reward you with unwavering companionship and the sweetest little smile you’ve ever seen.We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Story
Imogen is a gentle little soul who seems to float through life on quiet paws. At 12 years young, this sweet Shih Tzu has perfected the art of calm companionship—she’s soft, serene, and radiates an almost angelic peace wherever she rests. If you’re looking for a dog who brings tranquility and warmth into your home, Imogen is your girl.Imogen is wonderfully easygoing and happy just being near her people. She adores lap time, gentle scratches, and loving attention when she’s awake, though she’s equally content spending much of her day napping sweetly in her cozy bed. She never barks, has no bad habits, and is beautifully well-behaved when left alone—no crate required. This precious girl is blind and hard of hearing, which only adds to her peaceful nature. She doesn’t need commands to thrive—just routine, patience, and love. Imogen does best on the lower level of the home and prefers to avoid stairs, snow, mud, and other tricky surfaces. She enjoys being outside when the weather is kind, especially if there’s a clear, shoveled path for her to stroll.Imogen is indifferent to other dogs, unfazed by the world around her, and simply asks for a soft place to land and a gentle human to love. She’s an old soul with a heart full of quiet devotion—ready to be someone’s little guardian angel at home.Interested in adopting this dog?
