Story
Joey is a 7yr old, 10# male Maltese/Yorkie mix that came from a breeding operation, and he hasn't had the same socialization as a house pet would have had growing up. He is very shy with people, and although he's made some progress with his foster mom, it's been a slow process. Joey follows her around (especially if she's in the kitchen), but doesn’t really like to be picked up. He doesn’t like any pressure against his body but tolerates it - does best lifted up from under his belly area. He is a happy little dog that loves to run and play with the other canines in the foster home – he's cautious with people. Joey has learned to jump up on furniture, and at night he will jump up on the foster's bed (which is low to the ground) and sleeps with her and the other dogs. So he's making progress, and has the potential to continue trusting and interacting with his person, but it's going to take time and patience. His placement MUST be in an adult-only home, with someone that has experience with shy-fearful dogs/puppymill dogs . His home MUST also have another small, friendly dog for companionship. Joey knows he's supposed to potty outside. He goes to the door and looks at you during the day when he needs to go out - but if you're not there to see him, he might have an accident - your best bet is to take him out regularly every 4 hrs. At night, he wakes you up when he needs to go out, and the foster does take him out once during the night. If left for more than 4 hrs., he’ll use the pee pad. Joey MUST have a secure, fenced in area to do his business because he doesn’t do his business on a leash. Joey does come when foster calls him, but if he got out, he would be so frightened he would run off and not come to strangers. He rides in the front passenger seat of the car. Joey has spurts of energy when he will run and play with other small dogs – he really enjoys his relationships with the other dogs in the home, and MUST have another small dog companion. No experience with cats. Not a match for children. He is food motivated, which will be a help in training, but needs to watch his weight. Doesn't seem to shed, but his coat will mat. Unfortunately, he doesn’t tolerate brushing, so Joey needs grooming about every 6-8 weeks, and will need to b pre-medicated and muzzled, so will need an experienced groomer. He is neutered, and had a dental cleaning done in September of this year – the 13 teeth remaining in his mouth were cleaned and polished. He eats dry kibble that has been soaked and softened, and his tongue does NOT hang out of his mouth. Current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. Transitioning into a new home might be just like starting over again for Joey. This is a journey his new adopter can take him on. He needs a person that is familiar with dogs that want to trust people, but aren't quite able to do that without guidance, and a person that can keep him safe as he learns to navigate life. You need to accept him as he is, because change is slow. Joey’s adoption fee is $200. If you have questions, or would like to meet Joey, please call 651-771-5662.

Age: 3 years old Weight: 6 lbs Dog friendly: Yes, requires companion dog in the home Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes Potty pad trained: Yes Crate trained: Tolerates the crate but does not love it. We're working on it :) REQUIRED: Companion dog within the home & a physical fence Adoption fee: $795 Hi, I’m Jericho, a sensitive Maltese gentleman seeking companions (thoughtfully-introduced dogs, cats, and humans of all ages) for playtime, snuggles, and walks in a sling. I was quite the stud in my former breeder home, but I never learned to trust others or be myself. My current lady is helping me find my inner puppy. Who knew squeaky toys, zoomies, and doggy stairs were this much fun? She thinks my love of food—turns out cucumbers, melon, and apples are almost as delicious as doggy treats!—might make forever-home training easy once I learn to relax a bit more. For now, I prefer using indoor potty pads and staying safely tucked inside a sling when outdoors. I’d love a friendly, confident dog sibling to teach me skills, which would be easiest in a fenced yard. It will keep me safe too! Some might call me needy because I prefer to be on or near my companion at all times, but I do great unkenneled for up to six hours alone. I do get barky when anyone enters the house, though I hush and run to my safe spot within seconds. Ready for a date? I’ll bring my expressive ears, soft, hypoallergenic fur, and sweet disposition. You bring patient willingness and All The Treats. I really love treats! Give me treats. Love, Jericho 🐾

He’s recently discovered the joys of balls and squeaky toys, walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, and is potty and crate trained. Bowie has one very special lady in his life! 💕 His sister Bella is a spunky, independent little firecracker who happens to be blind, but doesn’t let that stop her! They’ve spent all 10 years together and must be adopted as a pair. Fair warning: Adopting these two may result in being permanently trapped on the couch with a cutie on each side! 😂🐾

Story
Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. The heartworm test and tick profile are all negative. He requires grooming about every 3 months. If you have questions, or would like to adopt Cody, call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $300 .
