Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Arthur! Arthur is a high-energy pup who loves nothing more than to be outside, running around, and playing with other dogs. He's a true social butterfly who thrives on attention and loves to lick your face whenever he gets the chance. In his Texas foster home, he's adapted well to their schedule, quickly making himself at home and asserting his playful personality. Arthur is a jumper, so he'll need to always be under supervision and leashed in fenced in areas. He can easily jump over a baby gate and is happy to do so to reach his friends on the other side. Overall, Arthur would thrive in an active home where he can get plenty of exercise and attention. He loves being included in family activities and enjoys being allowed on furniture for some quality cuddle time. If you're looking for an active and playful companion, Arthur might just be the perfect match for you! Arthur currently lives with adults, children and small dogs. He has not been introduced to large dogs and cats or young children. Arthur is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/9/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 530PM and 830PM. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you'd like to donate towards this pet's care, you can donate to our Animal Care Fund. Our Animal Care Fund supports the medical and veterinary needs for all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Muffin! Muffin's journey began when she was found as a stray, abandoned in a park, covered in fleas, and in need of some TLC. Her Texas foster family is helping her feel better every day and recently received a hair cut! Despite her rough start, Muffin's a total sweetheart who loves nothing more than cuddling up in your lap or sleeping by your side. She can be bit protective of her humans lap if she is in it and may let other dogs know how she feels about sharing if they try to encroach on her lap time, but once everyone's settled, she's as friendly as can be. As a young pup, Muffin still needs some training, but she's getting the hang of things. While she's not quite 100% potty trained yet, she's getting there, and with a little patience and consistency, she'll get the hang of it in no time. She does know how to use potty pads in the house. Muffin prefers sleeping with her human rather than in a crate, as she'll bark all night otherwise. She's a bit nervous about being picked up, likely due to past experiences, but once she's in your arms, she's a bundle of joy and absolutely loves the cuddles and attention. With her adorable antics and loving nature, Muffin would thrive in a home where someone is around often to give her the attention and love she craves. If you're looking for a loyal companion who'll stick by your side through thick and thin, Muffin might just be the perfect match for you. Muffin currently lives with large and small dogs and adults. She has not be introduced to cats or young children. Muffin is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/9/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Morty, the charming Maltese on the lookout for my forever home. Let me give you the scoop on what makes me special. At 7 pounds and 7 years young, I may be small, but my personality is mighty. I'm friendly, curious, and playful—always up for a good time! Despite my luxating knees, I don't let it slow me down. With a little extra care and some glucosamine, I'm ready to tackle life head-on. I'm a social butterfly who loves making new friends, whether they're furry or not. Playing with other dogs and even cats? Count me in! Squeaky toys are my jam, and I'll happily gather them in my favorite bed for a play session. Plus, I'm a foodie at heart—I'll devour treats, fruits, and peanut butter like there's no tomorrow. While I may not be a fan of the kiddos under 12, I'm still working on mastering the art of potty training. I'm a quick learner, though, and with a little patience and consistency, I'll get there in no time. At night, I sleep quietly in my kennel, but I might get a bit chatty when I hear someone stirring in the morning. Now, about those stairs—I'm still getting the hang of them. I prefer homes with minimal stairs to spare my precious knees, but don't worry, I don't mind being carried. And if you lay out a trail of rugs on those slippery floors, I'll be forever grateful, especially in the kitchen where I love to supervise meal prep. In a nutshell, I'm cute, snuggly, and full of personality. I adore cuddling on the couch and striking my best playboy pose when you want to scoop me up. So, if you're ready to open your heart and home to a furry friend like me, let's make it happen! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in th eir forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a   particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hey there, lovely humans! I'm Mellie, the delightful 6-pound Maltese on a mission to fill your life with love and joy. I am really hoping to find a furever family that will help me come out of my shell and help me with my anxiety.  Here's the latest scoop on all the wonderful things happening in my world: I've been busy spreading love at my foster home, and I must say, I'm thriving! Bedtime is my favorite, and I've earned the title of "bed bug." Lately, I've started showing that I can be playful and have been engaging in some furry fun with both dogs and cats. Guess what? I've discovered a newfound love for soft foods and treats. Yum! I'm becoming less anxious and not pacing in circles as much as I settle into my foster home. As we all are, I'm a work in progress. Loud noises and overwhelming commotion can make me a bit uneasy, but hey, who doesn't have their quirks? Potty training is a team effort, and I'm giving it my all and will need to practice more in my furever home. Accidents? They happen, but I'm getting the hang of things. I'm all about that furry companionship, so another doggy friend in my furever home is a must for me. A fenced yard is also required for my safety. Barking isn't my thing, but I'll chime in occasionally in the crate or when a stranger is around. Cats? I'm respectful, maybe a little too eager to play, but I take my cues seriously. Timid, loving, and mellow – that's me in a nutshell. My flowing hair is a testament to the beauty growing within and around me. If you're home more often and looking for a laid-back, low-energy companion, I'm your girl. Cuddles, playtime, and companionship – I've got it all to offer. Ready to make me a part of your heart and home? *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses.  Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. What a fabulous size, big enough to enjoy most adventures but not too big that I hog the whole couch (or bed ;) !). My short coat comes from dad's side and will be low maintenance in the grooming department. And you do know what that means don't you?! Yep yep, lots of extra time in the 'spoil me rotten' department. And I do loves that department, you and me time, my favoritest time!! Are you looking to add a spark to your family? A little sweet, a little sassy and a whole lot of cuddly!! OMGosh, guess what? That'd be ME!!! With your help I can get that last box checked!
