Story
Hi there! I'm Marlie Sue and I've foud myself here at the shelter at 14 years old, wondering what's going on? I'm really looking to find that special someone who will love me and care for me for the rest of my days. I'm a Maltese/Yorkie mix or a Morkie as they call it! I'm a very sweet girl and I would love to find my home.  I have chronic renal disease, so I will need frequent vet visits to make sure my kidneys are functioning properly as well as SQ fluids daily. I might need a prescription food as well.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas at least monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##1867765##

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hello I am Brodie and I was born approximately 3/12/2019, I also weigh around 12 lbs, I am a Maltese. I came from a shelter, and I am very protective of my toys, because I never had any before this so I don't love to share. I'm house trained, my foster mom takes me outside every 4 hrs. I have a kennel but would rather sleep on the bed with my foster mom all night. I don't care for dogs bigger than me because they are scary and I also don't really love cats - I growl and bark at them. I will sit and watch you when you are eating, hoping that I will get a snack. I like to curl up on the floor next to my foster mom. Will let you know when someone knocks at the door or walks by, by barking a bit. I'm leash trained. I get along with my foster brother.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $475.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 8, 2023, 8:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Blossom! I am a Maltipoo who was born 6/16/23. I came from a breeder in Kentucky. I seem to have something wrong with my left eye. The vet thinks my sight might not be the best but it doesn’t stop me from running around the yard with my foster siblings and playing with my human foster siblings. I’m also pretty sure that I’m also deaf. For that reason, a fenced yard and another dog in the home is required so I don’t get lost and someone can show me the ropes. I’m a great cuddler and do okay in my kennel but my bark is very loud if I think I’m being left alone. Currently I sleep in my kennel next to or on my foster parents bed because when I go to sleep I like to see my people so I know I am safe. I haven’t hung out with cats or small children, and don’t know any better but to play fight with teeth. I’m still working on that and potty training. I usually do well in my kennel, but when I am just roaming around the house, I have accidents. I can’t wait to find my furever home. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $650.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 8, 2023, 8:06 pm

Story
Meet Eddie, a charming 8-month-old Maltese with a heart full of love and happiness. This adorable little guy, affectionately named after Eddie Van Halen, is in search of a loving forever home. Although he's deaf, Eddie's zest for life and gentle nature make him an extraordinary companion. Eddie's playful and calm demeanor will warm your heart. He thrives on snuggles and has a unique talent for being cradled like a baby while gazing upside down into your eyes. Currently working on his potty training, Eddie has made remarkable progress and can now go a full day without any accidents. He's also a quick learner when it comes to hand/sign commands, always eager to impress and make his family proud. While Eddie doesn't enjoy being crated and may bark when he's separated from his loved ones, his foster family is diligently helping him feel secure. We suspect his deafness plays a role in this behavior, so we recommend that he goes to a home without shared walls until he becomes more comfortable. Eddie is not just sweet with humans; he's also gentle and friendly with the resident cat and gets along well with other small to large dogs. However, we advise caution around larger, more energetic dogs and young children due to his petite 7-pound frame. We understand that Eddie's undeniable cuteness and desirable breed may make him an appealing choice, but it's essential to remember that he's deaf and may need extra time to adjust to a new environment. During this transition, you may encounter some potty accidents and barking when he's left alone. But rest assured, your patience and positivity will be rewarded with endless love and snuggles from this tiny guy with a heart as big as can be. Give Eddie the loving home he deserves, and you'll have a loyal companion for life. ##1864525##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Want to meet me? Come to Mainstream Boutique, 14025 Highway 13 S. Savage, Minnesota 55378 on Saturday, December 9th 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Hi I'm Haru!  I'm a handsome guy who is happy as can be!  When I meet new people I can be shy and may even hide and observe from a safe spot til I feel comfortable.  Give me a little attention though and I open up and show you my happy silly side.  I'll give you my biggest smile and my tail will wag like crazy and then I give you my belly for belly rubs!  Those are my favorite thing in the world!  I must admit I warm up to ladies faster than men.  I'm not mean I just keep my distance.  I don't have any kids in my foster home, but I think little ones might be a bit overwhelming to me right now. so I'd prefer older, respectful kids.  I enjoy my lap time with my foster mama and happily sit and kiss her face so she knows how much I love her.  I'm a pretty  curious guy and like to explore my home and go on little walks to sniff the air and feel the sun on my face.  I'm kennel trained and am working on potty training.  I know I'll master that soon with your help.  I do well with other dogs, but I like to be top dog. I'm a bit of an alpha guy, you could say, so a basic obedience class to keep teaching me how to meet and play with other dogs would be great!  I think I'd do just fine as an only dog though since I'm confident once I settle into my home. I don't require a fenced in yard, but if you had one that I could run around in, that sure would be fun!  I haven't yet met any cats, but would be happy to meet any you might have.  I think we'll be great together so hurry up and apply now!    Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses.  Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a   particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       DOB: 12/07/2022 Requires another dog in home: Yes, another well-balanced dog is required Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown, likely afraid of kids Weight: 8 pounds and growing Food Fed: Solid Gold Requires a fenced yard:  Yes, required Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hi, my name is Corbin and I am a very shy and timid puppy that is ready to find my forever people with patience, toys and lots of love to help me be the best I can be! I’m very afraid of being touched by humans but I do love them.  I’ve been brave enough to lick my foster mom’s hand but I’ll run away if you try to hold me or pick me up.  With time, lots of patience and love, I’ll get there.  I’m getting a little better every day but when things are scary, they’re really scary! You have to understand that I likely have never been in a loving home so sounds like the TV, clanking dishes, the horrible vacuum and lots of commotion might make me a little worried. I have shown foster mom that I do have some puppy antics in me, hee hee! I like to play with soft toys, run around the yard and wrestle with the other dogs in my foster home. So, it’ll be important that I have a good doggy role model in my forever home to help me learn that touch isn’t scary and keep learning. A social, well-balanced and confident dog is required. This means that my buddy will need to show me humans are safe, how to get on a potty routine and teach me which toys are the best! My fur-brother and the other dogs in my foster home have been amazing teachers! I am still working on my dog skills like potty training. We go outside on a routine, but I will still need of practice in my forever home. Foster mom wants to let you know that I am smart – I already know what “go potty” means! We tried kennel training, and oh boy, I will tell you how much I don’t like it! Bark bark! Foster mom uses gates for the dogs when she isn’t home. I also bark at her when she comes home – maybe I’m telling you I’m glad you’re home, or maybe I’m filling you in on what happened when you were away!  Also, a fenced yard is required as I don’t have a leash or tie-out experience. This is very important for potty training too. My foster mom said I’m fun, adorable, learns quickly and likes to play with other dogs and that I play hard!  Oh and that I have a wonderful appetite! I will let you know with a bark bark that I am excited for dinner! I’m just an overall, very happy dog who loves the feel of the sun on my face when I’m sitting outside, other dogs and treats.  All I need now is a forever home with lots of patience, unconditional love and a family that will help me be the best I can be! Foster mom says that with time I will learn to trust – we are taking baby steps. Will you take those baby steps with me?
