Story
Doesn’t this sweet little face make you want to pick him up and give him a hug? Alfie is a 4 yr old, 9# male Maltese that was surrendered by a breeder that was “downsizing”. He is playful and outgoing, microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered. Walks are the highlight of his day, and when his foster mom picks up his leash he will start to happily bark (but is easily quieted). Alfie is an active dog that will need some regular form of exercise daily – walks are a great way to tire this lively little dog out, so his person should be physically able to keep up with him. Living inside a home with a family is a new experience for him. Initially he had an issue with being picked up, and would become fearful and rigid – a person’s hands seemed to frighten him. Now he is fine with being picked up and cuddled by a gentle adult. Alfie wouldn’t do well with fast moving, vocal children. Having previously lived in the kennel with dogs, he does great with them, and his ideal home would include another same size canine for companionship. Alfie does not do well alone, so his adopter should be home much of the time – perhaps someone that works from home. Coming from a breeder, he wasn’t housebroken coming into our program but his foster has a routine for him that seems to be working well – he goes out on leash at least every 4 hours (goes potty fairly quickly then), and wears a belly band when loose in the house. He has a 6x6 pen in the house, and he rarely potties in there. He has a great start on the house training, and his adopter will just need to continue until he is reliably housebroken. He sleeps quietly all night long in his indoor pen. No cat experience. Fine meeting and interacting with visitors. No problem going up and down the stairs. To give him every advantage to being successful in transitioning to a new home, we are looking for a quiet adult home, with someone that has previous dog experience. Because of the frequency he needs to go out, he would do much better in a home than he would in an apartment (a fenced yard would be great). There should be another small-medium dog in the home. Alfie will need to be groomed 4-5 times a year – be sure you can afford this ongoing expense. He just had a bath and got his nails clipped before these pictures were taken, and he was a perfect little gentleman. If you have questions, or would like to meet Alfie, please call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $400.

Story
Meet Annie, an 8-year-old sweetheart with a playful personality. Annie came to us after her elderly owner was displaced by Hurricane Beryl and had to make the difficult decision to give her up. Despite her age and needing to shed a few pounds, Annie’s zest for life remains undiminished. Annie weighs about 20 pounds right now, but would be happier and healthier around 12-14 pounds. While her vision and hearing aren’t as sharp as they once were, it doesn’t slow her down one bit.Annie adores attention and will stand on her hind legs for pets and treats. She loves to snuggle and will happily fall asleep in your arms while being petted. She’s house trained, uses a doggie door, and sleeps quietly in her kennel through the night. Annie does need regular grooming to keep her coat in tip top shape.Annie gets along well with other dogs, though she can be a bit intimidated by larger ones. She’s great with all people and always has a happy demeanor. Annie will make a wonderful companion and is ready to bring joy to her forever home.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.July 26, 2024, 4:53 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Morty, the charming Maltese on the lookout for my forever home. Let me give you the scoop on what makes me special. At 7 pounds and 7 years young, I may be small, but my personality is mighty. I'm friendly, curious, and playful—always up for a good time! Despite my luxating knees, I don't let it slow me down. With a little extra care and some glucosamine, I'm ready to tackle life head-on. I'm a social butterfly who loves making new friends, whether they're furry or not. Playing with other dogs and even cats? Count me in! Squeaky toys are my jam, and I'll happily gather them in my favorite bed for a play session. Plus, I'm a foodie at heart—I'll devour treats, fruits, and peanut butter like there's no tomorrow. While I may not be a fan of the kiddos under 12, I'm still working on mastering the art of potty training. I'm a quick learner, though, and with a little patience and consistency, I'll get there in no time. At night, I sleep quietly in my kennel, but I might get a bit chatty when I hear someone stirring in the morning. Now, about those stairs—I'm still getting the hang of them. I prefer homes with minimal stairs to spare my precious knees, but don't worry, I don't mind being carried. And if you lay out a trail of rugs on those slippery floors, I'll be forever grateful, especially in the kitchen where I love to supervise meal prep. In a nutshell, I'm cute, snuggly, and full of personality. I adore cuddling on the couch and striking my best playboy pose when you want to scoop me up. So, if you're ready to open your heart and home to a furry friend like me, let's make it happen! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.  Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in th eir forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a   particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there! My name is Jean, and I'm a timid and loving 6-year-old female Maltese Mix with a lot of love to give. I weigh around 13 lbs, making me the perfect size for snuggles and playtime. Let me tell you a bit about myself! I absolutely love being outside and running around in a fenced yard. Toys of all kinds are my favorite, and you'll often find me playing with them happily. When I'm not playing, I enjoy relaxing and soaking up some sun. I can be a little shy, especially when there is overwhelming commotion or with quick motions, but once I feel comfortable, I open up and show my sweet and loving personality. I'm potty trained using both a potty pad and go outside, I will need a little more practice in my forever home to stay on a routine. I'm also crate trained and know the command for "kennel/crate" as well as a command for "outside." While I enjoy my crate, I do prefer being out and about with my humans. A fenced yard is essential for me because I'm not leash trained and can be fearful of new things, making me a flight risk. I don't need to be placed in a home with another dog, but I do love human company and would thrive in a home where my people are around most of the time. I only bark when I'm alarmed, so I'm generally a quiet companion. I'm very sweet and loving, and with a bit of patience and understanding, I blossom into a wonderful, loyal friend. If you're looking for a gentle and affectionate companion who will bring joy and love to your home, I'm your girl! Love,  Jean *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi, my name is Calvin and I spent my early years not in any sort of inside, family-style living so this is all new to me.  So forgive me if I am a little skittish or nervous occasionally.  Especially when we first meet.  I do the same thing when outside of the environment I’ve grown accustomed to but I’m working on that and would do best with a home that will be patient and understanding.  I admit, I’ve growled at people when my stress level is over the top for me but I haven’t ever snapped or bitten anyone. But for now, maybe a home without small kids would be better as commotion, loud noises and men seem to make me more tense. I don’t have too much desire to play right now as I’m still trying to get accustomed to life in a loving environment.  I’m low key but I ventured out a bit this week and actually played with a toy!  Hold your applause! I don’t really have a fur bestie so I can be an only pet if you’re home most of the day.  Why, you ask?? Well, I tend to have lots of conversation with people and like to voice my complaints to the peanut gallery often (bark bark).  I am crate trained but that darn potty thing is a bit trickier.  However, when you keep me on a good schedule, I feel I’m close to making it happen! I don’t require a fenced yard either, as I’m working on my leash skills.  Granted, it’s got more work to be had but we can do it!  I have put my noodles together and with lots of practice, I know “sit, come, kennel, outside and go potty!” I’m food motivated which is why my noodles are functional. Don’t think you’ve missing what you want to know.  I wanted to wait to tell you but this kid right here loves to cuddle!  I’m super sweet (with a bit of sauce).  Once I know you’re one of the good ones, I am always happy to see you know will run right up to you looking for pets and loving!  So, what are you waiting for?!  Let’s get this loving on the road!!
