Story
Meet little Oliver! He is a 7+ year old, pocket sized maltese mix. Oliver weighs in at a mere 9 pounds! What he lacks in size, he makes up for in love and personality. Oliver started out very timid and skittish for the first few days in his foster home. Once he got comfortable with the lay of the land, he settled right in. Oliver loves snoozing the day away in his comfy bed. He eagerly wakes up for important things like lunch and pottying outside. He is pretty much potty trained, as long as he is let out regularly. If he doesn't go out often enough, he will eventually go potty inside. Once outside, Oliver loves to explore the yard. He trots around checking things out and doing his business. Oliver barks on occasion but is not overly vocal. He most often speaks up when a dog is walking by or when he is excited and really wants your attention. Oliver had extensive dental issues when he arrived in the rescue. This led to all of his teeth being removed so he is now part gummy bear! While the vet said he may be able to resume eating kibble, he is perfectly happy eating canned, wet food. Oliver sleeps in bed with his foster parents at night. They tried putting him in his kennel one night, but he wasn't a fan of that so now he just settles right into their bed and sleeps through the night. Oliver does great with other dogs and children. He is very gentle and snuggly. Because he is so short, he uses stairs to get up on the couch. He uses a couple of steps to get out to the yard but has not attempted a full set of stairs yet. He is a little nervous in the car but does well, overall, mostly just needs a little reassurance from his humans. Oliver does well on a leash but does not seem to like to go potty while leashed. He will hold it until he gets back home. If you need a little extra love in your life, Oliver is your man! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $475.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 30, 2026, 4:12 pm

Story
About Me Hi, I’m Anthony — professional cuddler, full-time shadow, part-time neighborhood watch, and your future best friend. I’ll be honest right away: I don’t really believe in “personal space.” If you’re sitting down, I’d like to be touching you. If you’re walking around, I’ll be following you. If you’re heading out on an adventure, I’m already ready to go. I’m learning that being a few feet away from my human is survivable, but I definitely prefer the “together at all times” lifestyle. I’m currently living with multiple small dogs and doing well with them. I seem to especially like female dogs and calmer older male dogs. Even though I enjoy other pups, humans are really my favorite thing in the world. I’m looking for someone I can truly bond with — your loyal sidekick, road trip buddy, tiny-house roommate, and emotional support shadow all rolled into one. My day usually starts with me hurrying outside for my potty break the second I wake up. I’m leash trained and mostly potty trained, though I’m still polishing up my indoor manners. I’ve done some marking inside before, but I’m learning that humans apparently don’t appreciate surprise decorating. Since I’m newly neutered, everyone expects that to keep improving as my hormones settle down. I’m also okay with wearing a belly band or using a potty pad if my new family prefers. When my people leave for work, I may sing a short song about how much I’ll miss them. After that, I usually redirect myself to snacks, toys, naps, or hanging out with the other dogs until everyone comes home. Then it’s straight back outside for another potty break before I resume my very important duties of following the humans around the house. I’d describe my energy level as moderate. I enjoy daily activity and adventures, but I’m equally happy winding down with some quiet evening cuddle time before bed. Chew toys are one of my favorite things, and I’ll never say no to treats — especially baby carrots, apple slices, or dog-friendly peanut butter. I should probably mention my funniest habit: sometimes I pass gas, let out a dramatic little sigh, and then act completely shocked that such a smell could possibly exist. I’m innocent until proven guilty. I also take my guard dog responsibilities seriously. I’ll alert you if I hear a new sound, if someone is approaching, or if you dare come home without immediately greeting me properly. Because I can be vocal when excited, I’m unfortunately not a great fit for apartments or homes with shared walls right now. Before rescue, I came from a local impound where I arrived underweight and badly matted. A fresh shave and regular meals helped me feel like myself again, and now my weight is healthy and stable. At the end of the day, I’m happiest when I’m simply with my person. Whether it’s a house, a camper van, a tiny home, or a couch with enough room for two, I’m ready to be your loyal little wingman through all of life’s adventures. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Gary is an 18‑pound gentleman of distinguished age who has fully committed to the art of relaxation. He is, without question, the King of Sleeping. If napping were an Olympic sport, Gary would bring home the gold, the silver, and probably a commemorative snack. When he’s awake, he transforms into a slow‑moving shadow who follows his human around with the dedication of a very mellow bodyguard. He loves short strolls outside where he can sniff the neighborhood news, feel the breeze, and pretend he’s still a spry young lad. Then he returns inside to resume his royal duties: couch snuggling, belly‑rub requesting, and gentle snoring. Gary has a few special senior quirks—he’s partially blind, partially deaf, a little wobbly, and needs eye drops and daily pain meds. Stairs are not his thing, but being carried like the tiny prince he is suits him just fine. He’s working on potty training and does well on a schedule, especially since he sleeps through the night like a champion. He’s friendly with everyone, polite with dogs, and happiest in a calm home where he can nap in peace and enjoy his favorite hobby: eating treats. All treats. Any treats. Every treat. Gary is a gentle, affectionate, easygoing old soul who just wants a soft place to land, a cozy lap to snooze on, and someone who appreciates the simple joys in life—like snacks, sunshine, and long, luxurious naps. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Do you want to meet me? I will be at Nokomis Tattoo in Minneapolis, 4933 S 34th Ave. Minneapolis 55417 for an Adoption Event on Saturday, May 30th from 1:00-3:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Albany is a tiny Morkie with a big journey ahead of her and an even bigger heart tucked beneath her shyness. At just about 8- 9 pounds, she’s a delicate little soul who has survived more than she lets on. Missing most of her teeth, she sports a permanently peeking tongue, but she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying life in her own quiet way. Albany is very fearful of human contact and still prefers to keep her distance, often scampering away when approached. She’s cautious with men, women, children, loud noises, and new environments—pretty much anything unfamiliar. But she’s slowly learning that safety exists, and she’s beginning to show tiny glimmers of trust: a tail wag, a quick dash toward her foster to sniff a hand, then a speedy retreat. These small moments are her version of bravery, and her personality is just beginning to come out.  When she goes outside, she likes to do the back scratch boogie, but only if no one is watching because well, she is still working on that confidence.   What truly brings her comfort is the company of other dogs. She blossoms around confident, friendly pups—playing, following their lead, and learning how to be a loved pet by watching them. A companion dog is essential for her continued progress. She would also do well with calm, patient adults who understand that trust for her will come slowly, in tiny steps, over time. This sweet girl is crate trained at night and sleeps quietly in her foster’s bedroom. During the day, she may bark a bit when crated but settles. Potty training is still a work in progress; she knows what she’s supposed to do outside but still has accidents, so diapers are helpful when she can’t be closely supervised. A fenced yard is required, as she is a flight risk and not yet comfortable on a leash.  Although she has started getting a bit better at it, she will still freeze when a car goes by so until she can master the leash, a yard will help keep her safe.   Despite her fears, Albany has shown moments of joy—playing with toys, interacting with other dogs, exploring the yard, and even showing a little goofy side. She has great potential with the right family: one that is patient, gentle, quiet, and willing to let her set the pace. With time, love, and a confident canine friend, Albany will continue to grow into the sweet, quirky little companion she’s meant to be. In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading the information you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Zoey is a seven-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix with the perfect blend of playful puppy energy and sweet cuddle-bug charm. This adorable little girl is currently thriving in her foster home, where she spends her days playing fetch with neighborhood children, exploring the backyard, and curling up on the couch for snuggles at the end of the day. Zoey absolutely lights up when she hears kids nearby and happily runs along the fence to greet her neighborhood friends. She would love a forever home with a fenced yard where she can safely play, explore, and burn off some of her puppy energy. Like any young puppy, Zoey is still learning the ropes. She is smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning new things, but she will need a family committed to continuing her training and socialization. Puppy classes will help her build confidence and develop into a well-mannered adult dog. She already loves playing fetch — she’s just still working on the “bring it back” part! Zoey is also working on potty training and will need consistency, patience, and a regular routine to succeed. She currently goes outside every 3–4 hours and does best with a structured feeding and potty schedule. Daily walks help keep her happy and engaged. At night, Zoey sleeps peacefully in a crate beside her foster family’s bed, though she would happily trade that for a cozy spot snuggled up with her forever family. Zoey is looking for a loving home that understands puppy hood requires time, patience, and commitment — but the reward is a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship. If you’re searching for a playful, affectionate companion to grow with your family, Zoey may be the perfect match for you! Apply today to meet this sweet little girl! The following are requirements for Zoey’s adoption: 1. Since Zoey is still a puppy and small dogs can live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age-appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and comfort that Zoey will need for her entire life. 2. Someone who is home much of the day, since Zoey needs continued house training. She also thrives on the companionship of her humans. 3. A family who will actively participate in puppy training classes with Zoey and will provide the physical activity and stimulation that a puppy requires. Having a secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. Applications from a family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated an understanding of and have experience in gently interacting with a small dog will be considered since Zoey seems to really enjoy her interactions with children. 5. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN. 6. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year. Zoey is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She is scheduled to be spayed June 23, 2026 and will be ready for her forever home after a short recovery period. We are currently accepting applications for her adoption and she can go to her new home once she has recovered from her spay surgery. Zoey’s adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 in sales tax, for a total of $566.93. To meet Zoey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.
