Story
We are so happy to have our sweet girl Curls with us. After being returned to her owner from the shelter last year, Curls sadly found herself back in the shelter again within a year, this time severely neglected. Once her painful mats were shaved away, she immediately felt like a brand-new lady and her true personality began to shine. Curls gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine friend to play with. She is also okay with cats. She adores her toys, has a hearty appetite, and is house-trained, including knowing how to use training pads. She has just the right amount of sass, is incredibly affectionate, and is an absolute delight. While Curls isn’t a fan of car rides, this is easily managed with medication. She prefers not to wear a harness or sweaters, but makes up for it with endless charm and love. Curls is scheduled to have two small mammary tumors removed in January. The largest has already been removed and was benign, and these are expected to be the same. Once healed, she’ll be all set and ready for her next chapter. Curls is 10 years old and weighs 8–10 pounds, and she’s ready to charm her way into the heart of a lucky family.

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog E:3  Barley is a mild senior poodle boy with a calm and steady demeanor looking for a forever home that understands that everything in moderation is the key to contentedness. He enjoys exploring in the yard, is indifferent to coexisting with other respectful small dogs, and walks well on leash at a moderate pace. Barley checks in regularly for gentle pets and affection although he currently prefers shoulder and back pets, as he is a little sensitive to hands approaching his head. As a senior poodle gentleman of distinction, he will need a quiet home, preferably adult-only (but dog savvy kids 13+ may be ok, definitely no young children for this boy) and people that understand his grooming needs. Are you looking for a sweet and distinguished addition to your family? Come and meet Barley during adoption hours!January 3, 2026, 12:08 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, December 13th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.   Adoption fee: $700 Meet Bob Marley!   When Bob Marley, a 5 year old, 11 lb Poodle mix, arrived at the shelter, he was buried under severe mats and dreadlocks— so caked with urine, feces, and filth that the dog underneath was barely visible. Every tug of his coat caused him pain. Volunteers removed what they safely could, and at his professional grooming appointment, Bob had to be shaved all the way down. Now, beneath all that, a sweet, expressive Poodle mix has emerged— clean, comfortable, and ready to start fresh. His beautiful, fluffy coat will grow back, but Bob’s gentle heart is already on full display.   A Day in the Life   Bob wakes up between 7–9am, then heads into the backyard for a potty break and some morning playtime— anywhere from 30 minutes to a full hour. Breakfast follows: one cup of kibble topped with a jerky treat.   On workdays, Bob accompanies his foster to the doggy salon. He enjoys calmly roaming around, taking in the activity, and sometimes interacting with other dogs. He also gets a short crate break to relax.   On days off, the routine is the same, with added walks or zoomies around the house. His second meal is between 6–8pm.   Personality & Progress   In his first few days, Bob was anxious— pacing, struggling to settle. But as he began to feel safe, his tension slowly melted away. Now he can nap on his own, sleep through the night without whining, and relax comfortably even when his foster steps away.   Bob is a loving, affectionate, people-centered dog. He adores cuddles, thrives on attention, and is happiest when he’s near someone. He’s a classic velcro companion, following his person from room to room— but at bedtime, if he feels he’s gotten enough love for the day, he’ll put himself to bed without fuss. He’s tender, expressive, and truly just wants to belong.   Energy Level & Play Style   Bob has a spirited, lively personality. He enjoys activity, backyard time, and being included. He’s playful, bright, alert, and always ready for interaction. But he also knows how to settle and relax. He’s not a hyper dog—just an enthusiastic one with a happy tail and a big heart.   Leash Skills   Bob has gone on walks and does well overall—he doesn’t pull, doesn’t bark at other dogs, and isn’t distracted by squirrels. However, he may chew on his leash when he gets excited. With routine and consistency, this should improve easily.     Why Adopt Bob Marley?   Because he’s special.   Bob is joyful, loving, enthusiastic, and incredibly endearing. He has the biggest heart and a bright, expressive spirit. After surviving neglect, he hasn’t lost his faith in people—he still offers unconditional love, trust, and sweetness.   He’s the kind of dog who lights up a room with his wagging tail, who wants to be part of everything you do, and who will reward your love with limitless devotion.   Foster Favorite   Bob’s foster says her favorite thing is his unbelievable ability to spread joy. Whether it’s his happy tail, his energy, or just the pure love he radiates, Bob makes every day better. His presence alone can lift a mood—and he’s always ready to cuddle close and let you know he adores you.December 12, 2025, 3:44 am

Story
Bella's a great little senior dog. She mostly minds her business and sleeps a lot. She gets excited around her evening mealtime and still enjoys a walk around the block. Bella is 16 years old. Doesn't have major health issues. But shows age-related signs of a little dementia. She would be happy in a house with other people and pets, but would have difficulty around small children. The pictures are recent and show her freshly groomed. She is otherwise a curly furball!

Story
Cash was picked up by my wife and I from a breeder in Chico, CA. Cash was born on March 21st, 2021 and adopted on May 16th, 2021. Cash is a very playful and lively dog. Cash loves to play fetch, tug-of-war, and to run around. He loves to play fight with his son, Luca, who he lives with. Cash is very easy going and obedient. He cares very much about being a good boy. Cash is loyal and has a good temperament, always excited to make new friends. Cash can be a bit domineering toward other male dogs of his size. He isn’t neutered and has bred with a labradoodle once, rendering 5 puppies—one of which we kept.

Story
Luca was born to us by our cockapoo, Cash, and my parents’ labradoodle, Marlie. Luca was the runt of the litter and born without a tail. Our hearts were drawn to him ever since we laid eyes on the litter. Luca is a total snuggle bug and attention lover. Luca loves to be close. Luca loves to play with his dad, Cash, whom he lives with. He’ll grab a squeaky toy and squeak it in Cash’s face, forcing him to play. He is a very happy dog and loves to make new friends. Luca is somewhat timid and reactive when meeting new dogs. He is a bit of a wuss in that respect. But he’s very friendly and fun-loving, in general. If you want a dog to snuggle up with and play from time to time, he’s a good one.
