Story
About Me: Name: Iao Breed (or best guess): Poodle Approximate Age: 8 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 15 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Patient adopter, fenced yard, another small dog Why In Rescue: Puppy mill survivor Profile:  Iao spent some time at the shelter after being surrendered from a commercial breeder.  While she was pretty shy when she first came, she is now in a foster home and doing well.  Here is what her foster mom has to say about her:  Yvette earned her freedom after 8 years in a puppy mill.  She deserves to celebrate the 4th of July in a loving home!  She is doing well at home. She gets along great with dogs and the resident cat!  She is crate trained and keeps her crate clean! If she goes out regularly, she will potty in the grass.  She is just beginning to move around the yard and actually ran around in grass for what probably is her first time after a lifetime in a cage.  She is following her foster mom around the house keeping 2 feet behind, this is an excellent start to learning to trust.  She will do well in a home with older children but may not handle the noise and activity of young children.  She cooperated throughout her grooming.  She has never acted with any aggression. She is such a loving sweet soul!. As she progresses to enjoying life in a home I am confident she will be a loving devoted companion.  Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS July 11, 2025, 4:11 pm

Story
Meet Norma Jean! Nickname: Norma Jean Beauty Queen Breed: Poodle Rescue: Albert’s Dog Lounge Age: Adult Weight: 9 lbs Fun fact: Though she has limited vision she can hear a pin drop :) Foster home: Waukesha, WI Activity level: Moderate Friendly with: Dogs (needs patient dogs in home to navigate her poor vision), adults (prefers women) and would be ok with respectful kids ages 10+ . Has not been cat tested. Sleep style: She would prefer a human bed or a bed/crate near her people overnight Meals: Due to significant allergies, Norma Jean’s food is homemade by her foster and she will need a restricted diet. She’s loves pork, turkey and strawberries Snore-o-meter: 1 (quiet gal) Bark-o-meter: 3 (barks when someone is at door or other dogs are barking) Shedding meter: 1, some shedding while being brushed Fashion: Like her namesake (Marilyn Monroe), this cutie looks great it everything. She has mentioned an interest in bedazzling and never shies away from hot pink! Signature color: Hot pink or bright red Walk out song: Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend Favorite season: Winter, less things outside to make her itch :) Personality: affectionate, loving, curious, playful, active, fearless, vocal Best feature: She’s called Beauty Queen for a reason :) ❤️s: Late mornings, yummy food, exploring outside, walks, car rides, being near my people Spayed ✅ Microchipped ✅ Housebroken on schedule ✅ Walks easily on a leash ✅ Excellent car rider ✅ Crate trained but doesn’t need one ✅ UTD on vaccinations ✅ UTD on preventatives ✅ Norma Jean is looking for her forever home. She’s lived the life of a stray, was injured by a car, has battled skin allergies and is now ready to life life only as a Beauty Queen. In a pageant she would win “Best Personality” as she’s a loving, playful and happy pup! Norma Jean has poor vision and should only live with dogs who are calm and would be respectful of her space. When she plays with other dogs she can nip at them, which may be confused for a bite to other dogs. While she would like to live with other dogs, she should be matched with a dog who is a good fit for her play style. She’s also happy to be a solo dog if her human is up for playing with toys and long walks! Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $300, ($550 for a pair). Story
Meet Baby! Breed: Miniature Poodle Mix Rescue: Albert’s Dog Lounge Age: Golden Oldie Weight: 12 lbs Foster home: Lake Geneva, WI Activity level: Moderate Friendly with: dogs and adults, because of his poor vision he would not be a good fit for a home with small children. He also prefers low energy dogs who give him his space. Sleep style: Cozy on the couch Meals: Mix of wet and dry food throughout the day, he’s more of a grazer/nibbler Bark-o-meter: 4/10, barks when someone is at the door Shedding meter: 1/10 Fashion: Bow ties, he’s a formal gent Signature color/pattern: Aqua blue, really highlights his apricot curls Walk out song: Walking on Sunshine Favorite season: Summer, he gets to spend more time outdoors romping in the grass Personality: Gentle, sweet, loves to be near his people ❤️s: Exploring his yard (we imagine he would throw on some readers and study maps!), being with his people at all times, taking treats gently Baby was found as a stray in Chicago and is on to bigger and better things. He loves to act as your personal security detail, patrolling the yard to keep you safe :) He does not like to be crated but does well roaming free when you are gone. He’s working on going potty outside and almost has it down, but would benefit from a belly band if being left for a longer period. He is not a fan of being left alone and would prefer a calmer home where someone is home with him often. Neutered ✅ Microchipped ✅ Loves to be near his people and meet new friends ✅ Trusted to roam free when left alone ✅ UTD on vaccinations ✅ UTD on preventatives ✅ Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Story
Say hello to beautiful Opal! This sweet girl is about 9 years old. She’s a rescued puppy mill mama Bichon. Like so very many of these so-called breeder releases (i.e. no longer producing sellable puppies so no longer of any value to the business operators) she is extremely timid and unsure of life outside of a locked box. She does not trust humans - and I don`t blame her one little bit. After many months in her foster home, she has made progress, but that progress is always guarded and often accompanied by a swift return to where she was before the progress (she`s a one step forward, two steps back kind of gal). She watches my every move with curiosity/suspicion, lol. She likes to be near the me and the pack when I`m home but doesn`t necessarily want to cuddle in with us. She`s more of a `I`ll be over here watching you, but you can reach over and pet me if you want,` type of pup. She does get excited when I get home from work and will sometimes do zoomies in the yard with the big boys, but she doesn`t want me bursting her fun bubble by trying to get too close. I have built trust with her to the point where she wants to be by me, wants me to pet her, lets me do anything I need to do with her (besides go for a walk), but she is usually still nervous during it all. Heartwarming are the times when she is truly relaxed and enjoying some love from me - those times are slowly building in frequency. Love and patience are paying off. She must have a fenced-in yard at her new home as a leash isn’t an option for this sweetheart. She is going to need time and lots of patient, unconditional love and support to transition into a new life. Her ideal adopter is someone who is looking to share her/his home with an introvert :)You can also watch for stories, pictures and videos about Opal on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/JrsPupsNStuffInc Adoption fee: $425 All dogs/puppies have been fully vetted including spay/neuter, micro-chipping, worming, heartworm testing and preventative treatment, flea/tick preventative, and all required age appropriate vaccinations. As required by Wisconsin Act 90, all dogs will have received a veterinarian exam (CVI) within the past 30 days. Our adoption process requires the submission of an online application at JRsPupsNStuff.org. Additional details about who we are, what we do and how to adopt can be found on our website.
