This sweet 7-year-old mini poodle is calm, gentle, and loves being close to her humans. She’s pee pad trained, does well on her own for long periods, and gets along great with dogs of all sizes. She also confidently goes up and down stairs on her own and enjoys quiet time and cuddles!Personality & Characteristics:My foster dog is good with: Dogs of all sizes (hasn't been tested with cats or kids, but she’s very gentle). My foster dog is: Crate trained, no shed3 Keywords for your pup: Sweet, affectionate, mellowEnergy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 3 – She enjoys short walks and relaxing by your sideBarker? Story
Rocket is an absolute queen.  She's the sweetest, kindest, quietest, most gentle dog I've had the pleasure of knowing.  She's a beautiful soul who wants nothing more than to curl up with you while you do...absolutely anything.  She's sensitive but very low maintenance and just starting to find her confidence. She requires a slow appraoch, but once she's in your arms or under the covers, she's butter.  She doesn't shed, loves other dogs, and has no reaction to cats.  She's very low energy, great in the car, and loves running errands with me (she's so teeny, well behaved, and fits in my purse) and steals hearts everywhere she goes.  She would be a wonderful therapy dog and I know this little cotton ball will find the perfect companion.   ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. Story
Put Short Bio here: Extrasolar is 7 lbs of pure joy. She is very loving and gets along great with all humans and dogs. She is the biggest snuggler and would make for the perfect lapdog. However, she can also self soothe and sleep in her doggy bed while her foster mom works. I would say she's very adaptable. Despite coming from a puppy mill, she has a great demeanor and already knows how to walk outdoors on a leash. She is currently working on crate training. She is able to stay in the crate for 2-3 hrs at a time, but is slowly getting more comfortable each day.Fill out all below:Personality & Characteristics: Loving, gentle, sweetMy foster dog is good with: All humans and dogsMy foster dog is: low shed, potty trained.3 Keywords for your pup: lapdog, beautiful, friendlyEnergy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 2Barker? Story
Trixie - 12 years young, 8lbs, Poodle/Maltese Mix, Spayed - BLIND Trixie is Blind!!  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Our Team Says: Trixie is the kind of dog that makes your heart ache — with joy, with curiosity, with empathy. This 12-year-old maltese mix is mostly blind and was shaved to the skin when we took her in because she’d been matted gnarly when she ended up at the city shelter. But as soon as she got to our office, her naked little body wandered around while her nose led a gentle search for treats. When we handed her one, she cheerfully chomped it up and waved her wee snoot around in search of more. She transitioned into her foster home seamlessly, where she’s been since the first week of February. It didn’t take long for her to start feeling comfy and getting used to life as a cherished companion, and her fur is growing out now. She’ll need a family ready for senior medical care and to help a blind dog around — watch for things she might bump into or stumble off of. She’ll also need some grass, real or fake — in case you can’t tell from this reel, she’s clearly got a favorite activity. She’s happy with a quiet lifestyle and lots of love and will do best in a low key neighborhood or the suburbs. Her smitten foster dad says she’s a couch potato and: “Trixie is not a big cuddler, she’s very independent and is not huge on snuggles unless you place her next to you. She’s potty trained to a degree. She has to be taken out every 2-3 hours or she will pee on the floor, simply because she doesn’t know exactly where she is! If you take her out consistently, there are no issues though. She’s not afraid of strangers, she is extremely comfy with large groups and being the star of the show. She’s extremely gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy. I haven’t seen her interact with too many dogs, but the groomer mentioned she got along great with the other dogs there. She’s not afraid in the city but has a hard time on walks and would do better with a big patio or a yard. She is very low maintenance, no separation anxiety.” Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs Cuddle Bug LevelLow, very independent and is not huge on snuggles unless you place hernext to you. Potty Trained: Yes, to a degree. She has to be taken out every 2-3hours or she will pee on the floor, simply because she doesn’t knowexactly where she is! If you take her out consistently, there are noissues though! Comfy with strangers:Yes, she is extremely comfy with large groups and being the star of the show. Comfy For childrenYes, extremely gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy. She is GREAT for kids. Social with other dogs?Mostly– haven’t had too much experience but the groomers mentioned shegot along great with the other dogs. Leash Manners:Old pro. Respectful of other animals?Yes! Doesn’t really concern herself with other animals. Mouthy behavior:None whatsoever based on description Okay in the city?I think it's better in an apartment with a big balcony for her toroam, or in suburbs. Hard for her to take walks in general, but she isOK in the city! Jumping on people to say hi?Low, always 4 on the floor. Separation Anxiety:She is great and very low maintenance. No separation anxiety. Crate trained?Yes, totally fine in the crate. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. ANGEL - Poodle, 1.5 years, 18lbs, Neutered  Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Our Team Says: "Angel is a special boy. He struggles with meeting new people sometimes and really needs his space and time in new environments. His ideal adopter is really patient. And we would recommend a home that is in a calm area so there's less factors for him to have to navigate." Their Foster Parent Says: "Angel is adjusting well!! He had a couple potty accidents the first couple days, but otherwise hasn't relieved himself in the apartment since. He loves following us around and cuddling next to us on the couch or on the kitchen mat. He is learning how to play with his toys, but generally is food-driven. He has learned how to auto-sit, especially when we're holding food or treats, and also is a quick learner and knows which rooms he cannot access. We walk him 3-4 times a day, and he tends to poop on the first and last walk of the day. He is still getting used to the snow, but he started to hop around and play after a couple times out. He's calm and friendly with other dogs and also very curious around the apartment, trying to explore every corner. He'll be shy around new people but will warm up to them quickly. The biggest challenge is the separation anxiety. Whenever we leave him alone, he will cry or whine. He has been scratching at the door whenever we come back. We have a playpen for him and he would cry whenever we aren't in his line of sight. He is our shadow around the apartment; when we get up from the couch he'll follow us around." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Cuddle Bug LevelHigh -- Is always on our heel and loves to cuddle up on the couchPotty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents (accidents the first couple of days but no accidents since)Comfy with strangers?Sort of -- Shy when meeting new people but warms up quicklyGood with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy Good with Other Dogs?Yes -- Mostly uninterested; prefers humansGood with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes-- mostly uninterested Mouthy Behavior?Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Walks ahead occasionally and pulls but corrects himselfOkay in the city?Yes -- Unfazed by any loud noisesJumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Separation Anxiety?(Please be sure to leave your foster dog home alone every single day for at least 20 minutes.) Higher – He is ok alone for about 5 minutes, and then starts crying or scratching at the doorCrate training? Not at all – We have a playpen and he goes in his pen to eat/nap/sleep on his own. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas.
