Story
Long live the underdog! There's a reason we here at CCR are dedicated to the dogs with the worst luck - because these dogs need us the most and make the most amazing transformations! Roux (prounounced Roo) is the perfect example of what love, patience, and commitment can do for a dog in need!Roux is a 40 pound mountain cur mix who is just about 2 years old. Roux first arrived at CCR from a shelter in Arkansas where she had been deprived of human contact for most of her life. When Roux walked in the door, it was clear that not only was she absolutely petrified...she was hugely PREGNANT! Roux was terrified and just a few days away from giving birth. An amazing foster mom immediately stepped up and took Roux into her home - the last thing this poor pup needed was to give birth in a scary shelter! About a week after she went to her foster home, Roux gave birth to 7 healthy, happy puppies! Her foster mom spent the next 2 months helping Roux raise her babies, and then it was finally time for Roux to be the center of attention. It was clear that Roux needed another dog in her foster home - she really only came to life when she had a canine buddy to play with. So Roux moved into a different foster home to begin her mental and emotional rehabilitation.Roux has been living happily in her foster home for the past couple of months, and she is absolutely thriving! Roux is a super playful, active gal who ADORES every dog she meets. She loves to wrestle and rough house, and she will play "keep away" with her people when her dog friends are too tired for play! While Roux loves dogs, please not that she cannot live with cats. It's taken longer for Roux to trust the humans in her home - she is absolutely NEVER nippy, but she isn't super comfortable with pets and takes awhile to warm up to new people. Her foster mom spent lots of time giving Roux personal space, playing with her, giving her treats, and never forcing her to do anything she wasn't ready for...and now Roux loves body massages from her foster mama!Roux is looking for a home that has another playful dog that wants a buddy as much as she does, but we are learning that isn't a requirement! Roux is the kind of dog is happy and comfortable when she's part of a dog pack but also is really coming out of her shell as the only dog as well! Her forever humans will need to have a fenced yard to help Roux acclimate to her new home slowly without having to go for leash walks and to give her lots of space to play and wrestle. Roux LOVES to get the zoomies in the yard! Roux will take time to get comfortable with her new people, and physical affection will take extra time. But Roux will show you she loves you in other ways - she will squeal with joy when you come home from work, she will lay on the bed next to you, she will take treats gently and with gratitude, and she will play chase with you for hours in the yard! And then, one day, you will be giving Roux body massages, too, and you'll know you earned her forever trust and devotion! If you have another playful dog who would love a sibling, a fenced yard, and extra love in your heart for the underdog, please submit an application to adopt Roux at chicagocaninerescue.org!
