Max is an 8-year-old, 18 lb Pomeranian/Shiba Inu mix. Breed mix is just our best guess. Max’s coat was in horrible shape when he first came, extremely filthy and matted. Foster mom bathed him several times, and the vet tech removed the mats at the same time he was neutered. Then, a professional groomer gave him another bath and shaped up his coat. Max is now a very clean and handsome boy! It is critical that his new owner provide the grooming care that his long, thick coat requires. Max has one ear that stands up and one ear that flops over, which just adds to his cuteness and charm. He doesn’t bark much but when he does, his bark is more of a honk (like a goose). Very cute! Max LOVES toys! He needs to have a toy to chew on that he can destroy. He’ll take his toy with him everywhere he goes (outside and inside). He needs to have toys available at all times, to keep him from chewing something he shouldn't. He is possessive of his toys (not food), just his beloved toys. Max loves to roam the yard and work the fence with the big dogs in his foster home, but he also loves being a lap dog and taking long naps. Max would do best in a quiet house where someone is around most of the time. In return, he will be the sweetest companion and lap dog. He attaches quickly to his primary care giver so a transition to a quiet house will be very smooth sailing. Max has heartworms because he was not kept on heartworm prevention. Meet Squidgy! Squidgy is a rambunctious, playful Pomeranian/Shih Tzu mix born in February 2023. He may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he’s comfortable, he loves to play, hang out, and soak up attention. He can also be incredibly sweet and cuddly! Squidgy does wonderfully with both dogs and cats—sometimes a little too well! He loves playing with them so much that they occasionally get tired of keeping up with him. He is not currently microchipped or neutered and is due for updated vaccinations. He has had some food-related guarding in the past, so a patient owner willing to continue positive, consistent training would be ideal. We are expecting a baby and, with a heavy heart, feel that Squidgy would thrive best in a home that can give him the time, love, attention, and exercise he deserves. Lopez is a sweet boy who lost his owners due to their health issues, and ended up in the shelter after being found wandering as a stray. Poor boy, his world fell apart! He's doing great in his current foster home, loving the other dogs. He is wary of new people who come into the home but warms up fairly well. He just completed his obedience training, so we are happy to report that he is doing better with new people!Lopez is a fun and affectionate boy hoping his next "forever home" will last forever! His ideal home would be a calm place, perhaps with a retired couple or a person without kids. He is good with other dogs, but prefers to be the only dog or to have a play buddy who is bigger than him. Lopez is house trained and despite being a senior dog, he is full of energy and doesn't have any health Issues. Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.
