11 y/o female pug/jack Russell mix. Going through divorce/working too much/unable to provide care love and attention she deserves. Preferably home without kids. Very sweet dog- reactive though with loud noises/knocks on door etc, but all she wants is you to snuggle with her and show her some love.

Our Lovable Zena found herself homeless after her owners had a baby and could not handle dog care with a new child. Zena was surrendered directly to our Connecticut Rescue, so she did not have to suffer through a shelter process. Now four years old, Zena is ready to begin her second act in life.  Zena appears shy at first, and had not benefited from much socializing or training In her former home. Some pups serve as placeholders in families until the human baby shows up, and then are cast off to fend for themselves in the rescue process. This sad situation left Zena lacking social skills. Zena needs an extremely dog savvy adopter willing to go slow with her and troubleshoot some stranger danger and touch sensitivity at the vet. Her best fit will be an active adult home, with folks who have rescue dog experience, and who understand that a period of decompression is needed as Zena transitions to a new home.  Zena has done extremely well with her training, and seems to enjoy the process. She now knows most basic commands. We recommend ongoing Obedience work to help her adopter bond, and also to provide mental and physical stimulation. Besides training exercises, Zena needs a few brisk leash walks daily to work out her yayas.  We suspected Zena to be a mix of Beagle and Pug, but when curiosity demanded that we run her DNA, we discovered that somebody had crossed her great grandparents with Rottweiler. Zena is a stout, medium sized dog at a lean weight of 30 pounds. She could easily gain 5 pounds and still be within normal weight range. The Rottie DNA no doubt is the source of her sass! Zena's house manners are good. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health. Meet Carhartt. He is 7 months old and is currently serving as the unofficial mayor in our Director's office. His primary qualification is a pair of absolutely stunning blue gray eyes that have convinced every single person who walks through the door that he deserves whatever title he chooses and would like whatever they're holding. He never barks demands. He doesn't have to. He simply stares at you until you start questioning your life choices and offering him your lunch, your couch, and possibly your entire inheritance. This incredibly charming little bowling ball recently had surgery on one of his back legs, so he has about another week of cage rest while everything finishes healing. The good news is he's doing beautifully, and we don't expect this to cause him any problems in the future.The only real challenge is convincing a 7 month old pup that "taking it easy" is a reasonable lifestyle. Carhartt is quite certain he has a packed social calendar, important office rounds to make, and at least twelve strangers who haven't admired him yet today. Until he's cleared for full speed zoomies, his daily schedule consists of resting, healing, collecting compliments, and gazing into our souls with the kind of dramatic expression that makes you feel guilty for leaving the room without him. A Note About Leptospirosis Vaccines for Dogs We start dogs and puppies on the leptospirosis vaccine when age appropriate. Because some dogs are adopted before the booster is due, the full lepto series may not be completed before adoption. Your adoption counselor will review your dog's vaccine record with you and let you know whether a booster is still needed with your veterinarian. After Adoption Veterinary Care We recommend setting up an appointment with your veterinarian shortly after adoption. This helps your new pet establish care, allows your veterinarian to review their medical and vaccine history, and ensures they stay on track for any boosters or follow up care they may need. Flea and tick prevention, as well as heart worm prevention for dogs, are typically prescription products. Your veterinarian can help choose the safest and most appropriate preventatives for your pet based on their age, weight, medical history, and lifestyle. Why Adoption Fees Matter Every animal who comes through our doors receives individualized care. Some arrive healthy and simply need vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, and a safe place to land.
