Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Ginger is pure joy wrapped up in a goofy, adventurous package. She’s a happy, playful girl who greets life with enthusiasm and confidence. Ginger loves people of all ages, gets along well with other dogs, and has been fine around cats too. She has a friendly, social personality but also has an independent streak that makes her fun and entertaining to watch. She has basic training, walks well on a leash (though she may still polish her manners), is crate trained, and does great in the car. Ginger is intelligent, eager to please, and always up for playtime. She has moderate energy and enjoys being active, followed by relaxing on her own terms. She’s the kind of dog who keeps you smiling just by being herself. One important thing to know about Ginger: she’s an excellent climber and a bit of a wiggly escape artist. Chain-link fences won’t hold her, and she should be contained in a secure kennel rather than a pen if confinement is needed. She’s clever and determined, so a home that understands her adventurous nature and can provide safe containment is a must. Ginger was found abandoned in a box, but that hasn’t dimmed her bright spirit at all. She’s resilient, confident, and ready to move forward into a loving home. She can be vocal when she wants something and will “talk” to let you know what’s on her mind, especially when she’s excited or stimulated by activity around her. Ginger would thrive in an active home that appreciates a smart, playful dog with a little mischievous sparkle. With the right setup and lots of love, she’ll make an amazing companion! Ginger is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Penny, a charming and playful Pointer mix eagerly awaiting her forever home! Penny is a sweet girl who just needs a little time to warm up. When meeting new people, she might bark excitedly at first, but she quickly settles down and shows her true, happy self. Penny’s Pointer heritage shines through when she’s exploring – watch her strike an adorable pointer pose every time she catches a new scent! She’s a smart cookie too, clearly letting you know when nature calls by heading to the door. If you don't let her out right away, a gentle pace and whine are her polite reminders. This chill girl isn’t picky; she loves her meals and isn’t fussy about treats. She’s currently taking an over-the-counter supplement for digestion, which helps keep her feeling great. At night, Penny is a perfect kennel sleeper. She rests soundly with the door secured, and in the morning, she greets you with boundless joy and a playful spirit. Penny thrives on connection. Though she might offer a small growl initially as she adjusts to new faces, she warms up quickly. Give her a moment, and soon she’ll be nudging you for pets and snuggling close. She’s a loyal companion who will happily follow you from room to room, always mindful not to be underfoot. When playtime is over, Penny knows how to relax, often retreating to her kennel for a peaceful nap. While some loud noises can startle her, Penny is a remarkably calm dog overall. But when she’s truly happy, her tail wags non-stop as she joyfully plays with her toys! Penny needs a patient and loving family who understands that good things take a little time. Once she’s comfortable, you’ll have a devoted, fun-loving, and calm companion. Adopt Penny and let her point her way into your heart! Penny Marie is from an owner surrender. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape. Story
Welcome 4-year-old Bowser to CCPAL Rescue. Bowser is a Rat Terrier mix. We think he is mixed with Dachshund. He appears to be house trained because he doesn’t like to go in his kennel even though there is a wee pad. He is smart. He is adorable and weighs about 15 pounds. He is good on a leash and knows the sit command. He is lower on the shedding scale. He loves car rides and if he is off leash and you need him to come, you can open the car door and he will jump in. The only thing he isn’t great at is nail trims. He doesn’t like them, so we let the vet techs do that at his appointments or his groomer. He would be a great walking companion. He has lived in a home with small children and did great. We would like all the children to be 8 or older. He is very affectionate and liked it when Colin held him today. He can run very fast and he comes when you call. He is good with other dogs, even when bigger than himself. He isn’t over vocal and will bond deeply to his human. Many people love the Rat Terrier breed because of their loving nature. He is currently in Texas at the CCPAL Rescue. He is getting his vaccines topped up and will be ready for his new forever home as soon as we find his placement. We think a moderately active family would be best. He is loving and cuddly but will need a yard to play in or a walk daily to get his exercise in. He is a Rat Terrier so he will have fun checking the yard for rodents. He can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Porltand, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is 400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Coco: A Big Heart in a Little, Wiggly Package Coco is a lovable Jack Russell mix puppy with a whole lot of personality packed into a small, adorable body. He’s a friendly, curious little guy who approaches life with enthusiasm and heart. New toys are his absolute favorite—he proudly carries them around like prized treasures and is always ready for playtime. Coco loves being outdoors, whether he’s following you around the yard, exploring his surroundings, or simply soaking up the sunshine. He’s very playful and enjoys playing with his foster brother, entertaining himself with toys, or engaging with his people. Despite his playful energy, he’s incredibly gentle and has a super sweet side—he truly loves to cuddle. When Coco first arrived, he was a bit shy, but he warms up quickly and forms bonds fast. He’s smart and eager to learn, doing wonderfully with both leash and potty training. In fact, the only accidents he had were on his very first day after transport—he hasn’t had any since. He does great in a kennel and sleeps through the night without any issues. Coco is respectful and easygoing with other animals. He has no issues with the barn cat—he’ll sniff and show interest, clearly hoping to make a feline friend. Horses are still a mystery to him, and while he’s a little unsure, he shows no aggression at all—just cautious curiosity, likely because he’s never seen one before. With his affectionate nature, gentle demeanor, and joyful puppy spirit, Coco would be a wonderful addition to a family ready to give him the love, attention, and fun he deserves. Smart, sweet, playful, and cuddly, Coco is ready to start his next adventure—could it be with you? Coco is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Dumpling is a big-hearted, high-energy girl who absolutely adores her people. Once she warms up (which only takes a few minutes), she bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be near her humans. She’s affectionate, playful, and very much a “perpetual puppy” who approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She has basic training, walks on a leash (with room to polish her manners), is crate trained, and does well riding in the car. Dumpling has been working so hard on her potty training, and she's alllmost there.  With a consistent potty break schedule, she'll be completely potty trained in no time at all. Dumpling really loves lap time, despite her energy level, and thrives on interaction with her people. She’s eager to please and happiest when she’s included in your daily life. Dumpling does have a high-energy play style and can be mouthy when she’s excited. Her play includes growly noises that can sound intimidating if you’re not familiar with playful dog communication, but it’s all part of her puppy-like enthusiasm. Because of this, she’s best suited for a home with older children and larger dogs, and not recommended for small kids or small dogs. She can also get overstimulated during play, so an adopter who understands decompression, redirection, and healthy outlets for energy will help her shine. Dumpling resource guards food, so feeding should be managed carefully and ideally in a separate space. She’s also clever and determined — if you’re slow to open the back door, she’ll try to help you out. If she could reach a lever handle, she probably would let herself out, so secure doors and awareness are important. Dumpling came from BARC and has shown that, with structure and understanding, she does very well. She may be reactive to new people around her kennel when stressed, but otherwise she is excellent in her crate. She can be vocal when she wants to go outside, making sure her needs are clearly communicated. Dumpling would do best in a house rather than an apartment and with someone who appreciates an energetic, affectionate dog who is still learning how to regulate big feelings. With patience, structure, and love, Dumpling will be an incredibly loyal and fun companion who gives her whole heart to her people. Dumpling is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.
