Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Benita is from Texas.  She was picked up there as a stray and brought into rescue after her stray hold was up.  Benita is a sweet and cuddly little lady that just  wants  her own special spot on the couch next to you.  Benita is mostly potty trained, and is working hard at it every day with her Texan foster family.  She just needs some time outside to do her business roughly 30-45 minutes after eating.  Benita is kennel trained, taking all her meals there as  we'll  as any high value treats.   Benita is also leash trained, and loves to take rides in the car!  Benita has not been exposed to large dogs, cats or  children  while under our care, so they are still an unknown for her.  If you think that you have the perfect spot on the couch for this little sweetheart, please fill out an adoption application today.   One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can   donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 13, 2024, 10:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Crocket was found as a stray during one of Houston’s rainstorms, crying and seeking shelter. Initially very shy and quiet, she has blossomed into a happy little girl who loves everybody.  She loves running around, playing with toys and other dogs, and snuggling up with her foster family. Her favorite moments are when she gets to spend time with people and other dogs. When she's excited, her whole body wiggles and her tail wags like crazy. When she's sleepy, she loves to snuggle up and rest her head in your lap. Crocket isn't completely leash trained yet, but she's very smart and is learning quickly. Crocket will bark when she wants to play or when she's having fun. She gets very excited when she sees people and other dogs. Crocket is still teething, so she’ll need something appropriate to chew on.  Although she was underweight and shy when first found, she has come a long way in both her trust in others and her physical condition! She may need some patience initially as she adjusts to another new environment, but she comes around quickly. Her little life is about to change again, and she may revert to being shy until she realizes she’s safe and loved. If you are looking for an adorable playful and loving puppy to add to your house, Crocket may be the lady for you! Crockett is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *Bonded w/ Brooklyn**This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* I just joined my foster family and we are still getting acquainted with one another. Once they learn more about me, they will add more information here! Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape. In true chihuahua fashion, he loves to sit on laps and be held. He also loves to give kisses. If you are looking for a sweet, affectionate pup to join your family this might be the one! Speckles is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 06/22/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon.  Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This little lady is Reyluna, or LuLu. Her Texas foster thinks she is great! She loves her blanket and will move it exactly where she wants it so she is comfy and cozy. She is potty trained, but she has been using a doggy door so she may need a little time to adjust to a new routine. She is great on a leash and would make a great walking companion. She is playful and affectionate and a little bit goofy. She is just looking for her new place to crash. Might that be with you? Reyluna is from Texas.
