Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: Cyclone BREED: Rat Terrier DOB: Jan 17, 2026 (9 weeks)GENDER: maleHome Recommendation: Cyclone would truly thrive in a home with another dog, as he looks to his canine companion for guidance, comfort, and confidence in his daily routine—from mealtime to training to settling down to sleep. Being so young, he benefits greatly from having a role model, and he absolutely loves the companionship. Cyclone is very playful and would do best in a home where he has a furry sibling to romp around with, helping him burn off energy while continuing to learn and grow.Personality: Cyclone has a playful and affectionate personality that continues to blossom more each day. He absolutely loves squeaky toys and anything that crinkles, and he enjoys playing tug-of-war with his foster sibling. He’s already picking up great habits—he can sit for treats, loves lounging in a sunny bay window, and happily curls up on a soft blanket for cozy naps. While he may be a little shy when first meeting new people, he warms up quickly and soon shows his loving side, showering you with plenty of kisses.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Cyclone is still learning some basic training and would benefit from continued guidance and patience. Cyclone thrives in homes with plenty of space to explore and play. He enjoys having room to roam, stretch his legs, and satisfy his curious, playful nature, making a larger indoor or outdoor area ideal for him to stay happy and active. He’s also learning leash skills—traditional collars seem to bother him, so a harness might be more comfortable and help him feel more confident on walks. Cyclone has made great progress with potty training on pee pads and is starting to get the hang of going outside as well; he successfully went potty outside on a warmer day, and with more mild weather, outdoor potty training should become easier and more consistent.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
