Story
Hi there, my name is Ivy, and I am a pretty little 5.5-year-old, 10 lb “special needs” Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, but far more special than needy, I think! I am a distemper survivor left with a “wobble” (mild myoclonus), and I also have congestive heart failure, so I take 3 medications twice a day for the rest of my life. I started my journey in Houston, Texas, and stowed away with a group of dogs from a hoarder's home heading to San Antonio for fostering through 4 Little Paws Rescue. I suppose I wasn't wanted by whoever put me on board, so I’m grateful for a better opportunity to find a nice forever home! I am a happy little lady with an easy vibe, and friendly with everyone… strangers, kids, dogs, you name it. I’m a cool combination of independent, affectionate, doting, and chilaxed, and I enjoy snuggling with my people, although I’m just as content being under a blanket in my doggy bed. Sometimes I’m curious and like to explore, sometimes I enjoy a dog chewbone, and I always enjoy a yummy doggy treat; otherwise, I’m not into dog toys, and can easily entertain myself. I am well-behaved in a home, already housebroken, and only bark if I need to alert you, so my foster mom lets me roam freely when I’m home alone. At bedtime, I sleep in my dog bed under a blanket (that must be the Chihuahua in me, always loving being under a blanket, LOL). So that's everything. I’m easy-peasy, no trouble at all, and I’m adorable, and deserving of a wonderful, happy, loving life! I hope you inquire about me today! * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. If you are located outside the states we typically adopt to, we have options to get the dog of your dreams to your location.

Story
Marilyn, a charming 5-year-old, 13-pound female Rat Terrier, Corgi, and Chihuahua mix, is the epitome of a loyal companion and a true cuddle bug. Despite her journey from San Diego to NYC, she's beautifully adapted to city life, proving her resilience and calm demeanor. Her captivating light brown eyes are a window to her heart, remaining steadfastly trained on her chosen human, a testament to her deep affection. This loving girl thrives on connection. When she's with her people, physical touch is a must – she simply has to be touching you, showcasing her desire for closeness. Marilyn is incredibly food-motivated, making training a joy; she's mastered "sit" with enthusiasm, always eager for a tasty reward. She's also a model leash-walker and appears to be reliably house-trained, making her a wonderful addition to any home. While she prefers companionship, she settles quickly when her human leaves and would flourish in a home with another adult dog, as the presence of a canine friend beautifully soothes her mild solo separation anxiety. Marilyn's sweet nature extends to her charming quirks, like the mandatory "belly rub tax" required when leashing up or cleaning her paws – a small price to pay for such unconditional love. She's a dog who brings immense warmth and devotion to her home. View Marilyn in action Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, lepto, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Marilyn, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2286388##

Story
Blair is a lovable energetic dog that would thrive with an owner(s) who are also active with or without children. Blair is a hunter, so does not get along with unknown other dogs or cats. She is also a snuggler and craves attention. We have a senior dog who tolerates Blair and vice versa. Our family loves Blair, but she needs a family or owner that has more time to actively spend with her.

Story
Gizmo is a 5 year old rat terrier who is very sweet and energetic. She loves her walks and playing in the backyard. Sadly we need to find a new home for her because she is too aggressive with our 2 year old son and with another baby on the way it’s going to be hard to keep them separate.

These pups are in New York, New York too!

Story
Meet MARY-KATE OLSEN! She is “twin” to Ashley and sis to Elizabeth, both of which are up for adoption with us! She is a little under 5 months old and 14 lbs as of mid-October. We think she’s a black lab mix: she’s very slender and elegant, and has the cutest button ears! She is super friendly, sweet and active! She loves other dogs and people! Ashley dreams of finding her forever home, preferably with people who will buy her Starbucks puppacinos, and walk her a lot (although she will be hiding behind trees and sign posts from the puparazzi)! ——————————————————————- *PLEASE NOTE: This dog is currently in Puerto Rico.* Once an adopter is fully approved, transport will be arranged to the New York/NJ area. We do adopt out of state, but you must come to pick up. In addition, if you are applying for this dog or any of our pups, you must be open to dog psychology/behavior (Cesar Millan) and fulfilling the needs of the dog. We strive for our dogs to be adopted into the right home. The best fit for the dog is our priority. We ask that you please make sure if interested in a puppy or high energy breed that you are ready for this time consuming/daily endeavor and have patience as this is a long term commitment (could be 15+ years). Please consider your future lifestyle after COVID. Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment is the most important thing in caring for a dog. In addition we cannot guarantee breed of any dog or expected adult size of a puppy. Thank you for understanding.

Story
Cal - 9 months old, 12lbs, Terrier Mix, Neutered Estimated full grown size: About 13lbs Our Tean Says: "Underbite ...fans... here's your chance at a perfect pup! His underbite is as great as his personality." Their Foster Parent Says: "Meet Cal. Cal is doing great! He’s super smart, calm, and adapting quickly to his new temporary home. He loves being near me or my husband, and when we leave the room, he’ll bark a bit for our attention. He just wants to be where people are. He thrives on routine: he eats three times a day, gets a treat after every meal, and we take him on several walks a day as we work on weaning him off wee-wee pads and helping him become fully potty-trained. Cal enjoys playing with toys, although he’s still figuring out how to interact with humans during the play – he’ll usually play a little, then curl up for a nap. He has a favorite chew that keeps him busy, but as he’s a puppy he needs supervision – he once tried to chew my laptop charger. He’s also made great progress socially. At first, he didn’t like being picked up or leashed and would playfully run laps around the kitchen island to avoid us. Now, he lets me pick him up easily. In the evenings, he cuddles with me while we watch TV – and we’ve noticed he sometimes watches the screen, which makes us think he had a TV on in his previous home. Cal is a rare little guy – so clam and sweet-natured for a puppy. He’s already showing signs of being a wonderful companion, and I truly believe that anyone lucky enough to adopt him will see him continue to thrive and reveal just how intelligent and loving he really is." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Crate trained?Nope. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners:None. :) Will need to learn this skill.   Separation anxiety:MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
