Story
Willow is the kind of dog who seems happiest when life is simple. A comfy place to relax, a few snackies, her people nearby, and a predictable routine she can count on. That's Willow. Willow is estimated to be around 4 years old, weighs 78 lbs, and looks very much like a Rottweiler/Lab mix, though rescue rules apply and breed and age are simply our best guess. What we know for certain is that she is a gentle, easygoing family dog who has already proven herself to be a wonderful house companion. Go watch on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this sweet and steady girl. https://youtu.be/PR_xxAMDH_4 Willow is currently being fostered in a loving family home where she lives with a 2-year-old and an older German Shepherd. Her foster shared that she has a wonderfully calm, gentle relationship with both. She is house trained, crate trained, has excellent house manners, and has settled beautifully into family life. The best version of Willow is the one her foster sees every day- relaxed, comfortable, and happy to simply be part of the household- tea parties included. She also happens to know sit and shake, and she is very willing to show off those skills when snackies are involved. Willow appreciates the finer things in life, and treats definitely rank high on that list. Willow can be a bit shy when in new environments, even so, she remains easy to handle and showed us that she is more of a thoughtful, low-key dog than a social butterfly. She met new dog including a teeny-tiny small dog and our house cat appropriately and generally preferred minding her own business over seeking interaction or being pushy at all. Willow would likely be happiest in a home that appreciates her calm nature and allows her a little time to settle into new situations. Once she feels safe and secure, she's the kind of dog who simply wants to be part of the family. Her foster shared that she does identify as a lovable lap-dog so be forewarned, Willow believes that lap-dog is a state of mind not a body type. If you're looking for a mature, well-mannered companion who already knows how to live successfully in a home, Willow is exactly the girl you've been waiting for. Story
From the moment you meet Dinah, there is a sense of comfort and calm there. It’s almost like she makes you slow down and smile without even realizing it. If her soft eyes don’t pull you in the way she gently melts at your feet for a moment of love will absolutely get you. At a little over a year old and 63 lbs, this beautiful Rottweiler/Shepherd mix (best guess, of course) is still discovering the world, and every day her playful, affectionate personality grows. What stands out most about Dinah is how deeply loving she is. She absolutely adores gentle affection, melts for belly rubs, and forms the kind of quiet, meaningful connection that feels incredibly special. Go watch Dinah on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this belly-rub loving shy girl. https://youtu.be/i4HWTc6GtXs Dinah is being fostered in a loving home with other dogs and while she can initially come across as shy in new environments, her foster shared that underneath that passing feeling is a playful, affectionate girl who truly loves her people. We spent an afternoon with her outside of her foster home and she was just a whole bunch of gentle sweetness. We let her take it slow and it didnt take much time at all before she was meeting new people, rolingl over to show her belly, and gently taking treats. The cutest thing was when the belly rubs stopped, Dinah would quietly scoot herself back closer asking for more. It was one of those tiny little moments that says everything about who she really is. Dinah is very people-oriented despite her shyness. More than anything, she seems to crave soft affection, patient reassurance, and gentle connection. She takes comfort in calm voices and kind handling and really appears to blossom when she realizes nobody expects anything from her except simply being herself. She has a wonderfully soft mouth when taking treats and overall comes across as an incredibly sensitive, thoughtful dog. With other dogs, Dinah initially needed a little time to settle in and trust the situation, but once she relaxed she showed very appropriate social skills and gentle communication. Pushy dogs can overwhelm her, though she gives fair, controlled corrections when needed and then quickly moves on. She would likely do best with respectful, socially savvy dogs, especially calm or playful medium to large dogs who won’t crowd her. Her foster shared that once comfortable at home she actually enjoys rough-and-tumble style play, which feels very believable for a young dog finally letting her guard down. Dinah is not recommended for homes with cats or very small dogs, and because fast movement and busy environments initially can make her feel overwhelmed, we think she would likely thrive most in a calmer home with older kids or adults who understand shy dogs and the beauty of letting trust build slowly. The thing about Dinah is that she is not difficult, dramatic, or demanding. She is simply sensitive. She notices tone, energy, movement, and intention in a deep way. Dogs like Dinah often form incredibly strong bonds with the people who give them patience and safety because once they trust you, they truly love with their whole heart. If you are looking for a soft soul who just wants gentle affection, belly rubs, and someone to love deeply, Dinah is ready and waiting for you. Story
Wendy Wonderwell is one of those dogs that surely comes from a line of wonderful dogs. She has the kind of easy, joyful, well rounded personality that makes it easy to see why dogs became our best friends. She is the puppy who is ready to greet each day with a wagging tail, toy in mouth, happy to join whatever you're doing, and then curl up beside you when the excitement is over. There is nothing over-the-top or complicated about her. She's simply a wonderfully well-rounded dog who has been given an incredible start in life and is more than ready to become someone's very best friend. Go watch Wendy Wonderwell on YouTube, then come right back to read more. You'll quickly see what makes her so special. From her happy confidence to her sweet interactions with everyone she meets, Wendy is effortless in the best possible ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkBGcxeonq0 Estimated to be around 3 months old and currently weighing 12 pounds, Wendy appears to be a mixed breed puppy with possible Rotteweiler/Shepherd somewhere in her line, though as with all rescue dogs, her breed and age are simply our best educated guess. Wendy is being raised in a loving foster home with kids, dogs, and cats, giving her exactly the kind of thoughtful foundation every puppy deserves. Because of that, she is growing into a confident, social little girl who approaches new experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm while still being wonderfully respectful of those around her. She is already both near entirely (leaving room for the still growing puppy days) house and crate trained, which is an impressive accomplishment for such a young puppy. Her foster shared that Wendy's last accident in the house was more their oversight than hers. Wendy does an excellent job of letting her people know when she needs to go potty, whether she's relaxing in her crate or happily exploring the house. She also rides beautifully in the car, making her an easy companion for everything from quick errands to weekend adventures. Having grown up alongside cats, Wendy has learned how to read the room. She'll happily play when invited but is equally respectful when the cats have other plans, fully understanding that "murder mittens" are best admired from a comfortable distance. Wendy absolutely adores spending time with kids and has all the makings of a fantastic family dog. She has a playful spirit without being overwhelming and the kind of affectionate nature that makes every cuddle feel well-earned after a day of adventures. Like every puppy, Wendy will continue learning as she grows, but she has already shown herself to be bright, eager to please, and wonderfully receptive to guidance. She is exactly the kind of puppy who makes raising a young dog feel exciting rather than intimidating or a drag. Wendy isn't just looking for a home. She's looking for the people she'll spend a lifetime growing up with. The ones she'll greet after school, follow into the kitchen, ride shotgun on road trips, and make laugh for years to come. If you're ready for a loyal companion with an exceptional start and an even brighter future, Wendy is ready to come home! Ready to make the first move? Story
Some dogs arrive with big personalities that immediately fill the room. Papi De La Calle takes a different approach. He brings his quiet confidence and good looks secures a spot on the couch. Simply, he is easy company and so easy to enjoy. Estimated to be around 3 years old and looking very much like an American Pit Bull Terrier mix, keep in mind though- Papi is a rescue, so breed and age are simply our best guess. What we know for certain thanks to his adoring foster family is that he is a well-mannered, medium-energy gentleman with excellent dog social skills, lovely house manners, and an easygoing nature that makes him a wonderful companion. Go watch Papi Chulo on YouTube, then come right back to read more about this handsome boy. https://youtu.be/Nkqwchw1mkc Papi is currently thriving in a foster home with six other dogs ranging from a senior Chihuahua to younger Pit Bull mixes, and he gets along beautifully with all of them. In fact, he shares his space so comfortably that everyone sleeps together in the same dog room. During his afternoon with us outside of his foster home, he greeted new dogs thoughtfully and respectfully, handled both on-leash and off-leash introductions well, and showed that he can comfortably live as either a solo dog or as part of a multi-dog household. One of our favorite things about Papi is how steady he is. He's not overly busy, not overly demanding, and not looking to be the life of the party. In playgroups he is more interested in wandering, sniffing, and taking in the world than stirring up excitement. He enjoys companionship but doesn't require constant entertainment, making him the kind of dog who is wonderfully easy to live with. Papi also comes with some very practical perks. He is crate trained, trustworthy in the home, rides beautifully in the car, loads in and out with ease, and walks nicely on leash with gentle guidance. His foster describes him as well-behaved and generous with others, and we couldn't agree more. When meeting new people, Papi likes to play it cool at first. He likes to gather information with a few sniffs before deciding you're a friend. Once he settles in, he relaxes comfortably and shows just how sweet and easygoing he truly is, with an impressive ability to handle new situations without becoming overwhelmed. Papi would love a home with a yard where he can stretch his legs and enjoy some outdoor time. He can happily join a home with other respectful dogs or be the one and only canine companion soaking up all the attention himself. We introduced Papi to our house cat and it was easy to see he may have passed on playing chase with the dogs but he would have loved to play chase with the cat- fun or not, that means no cats for him. If you're looking for a dog who doesn't need to be the center of every moment, but will quietly become one of your favorite parts of every day, Papi Chulo is exactly who you've been waiting for! Story
Meet Macerena Female DOB: August 19, 2023 Weight: 50 lbs Breed: Rottweiler Mix Spayed (Fixed) Vaccinated Microchipped Healthy & Adoption-Ready Personality, Breed Info & Expectations Macerena is a loving, loyal girl with a calm confidence and a deeply affectionate personality. She forms strong bonds with her people and thrives on companionship, trust, and connection. Once she feels comfortable, she becomes the kind of dog who wants to stay close by your side and be part of everyday life. She has matured beautifully beyond the young puppy stage while still keeping a playful spirit and loving energy. Macerena enjoys interaction, companionship, and being included as part of the family. She has a warm, devoted nature and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend. As a Rottweiler mix, Macerena may show traits such as intelligence, loyalty, attentiveness, and a strong emotional connection to her people. Rottweiler mixes are often known for being deeply devoted dogs who thrive with structure, consistency, and positive leadership. Macerena would do best in a home that can provide: Stability and routine Daily interaction and companionship Positive reinforcement training and guidance Inclusion as part of the family She is a dog who truly wants to bond and build trust with her people. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Many rescue dogs come from very different backgrounds. Some may have previously lived in homes, while others may have come from the streets, overcrowded shelters, neglect situations, or environments where they had little structure or guidance. Because of this, most rescue dogs arrive with only basic training at best, and some may have had no formal training at all. Even dogs who appear well-behaved in foster care or at the rescue are still adjusting and learning. The rescue environment itself also does not always allow for extensive one-on-one training. While we work hard to provide safety, structure, socialization, and basic guidance, adopters should be prepared to continue training and support after adoption. Macerena will benefit from: Positive reinforcement training Structure and consistency Continued socialization and engagement Patience during adjustment periods Clear boundaries and routine Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule: 3 days to decompress 3 weeks to learn your routine 3 months to fully feel at home With patience, stability, and commitment, rescue dogs often blossom into deeply loyal lifelong companions. Story
My mother got Poseidon when he was three (now 8) from breeders after my first Rottweiler passed away. He is a huge love bug with any person and will flop on the floor for belly rubs. He’s never bitten a person but he does not get along with other dogs. I’m hoping to find a good family with some land or property for him to run. I am going to be downsizing soon to an apartment and I want him to have space to play. Since he doesn't like dogs and my schedule does not allow for me to let him out during the day it is hard for me to give him the exercise he needs. He likes to play with toys, especially pulling on ropes, chew toys and loves to swim.

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Teeka, a 1 year 7 month old spayed female, Boxer mix, 42lbs. She is in a foster home in Houston, TX and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! The amazing Teeka is on the hunt for her forever home. She specializes in best friending with an emphasis on playing! She currently lives with several larger dogs and is learning to respect their boundaries. She LOVES to play with them, but does need some help realizing when her foster siblings are ready to stop. She has not met any cats, so we’re not sure how she’d react to a feline sibling. Her foster mom says she’s done well meeting new human friends and is learning not to jump on them. Because of this and her high energy levels, we do recommend a home with older dog savvy kids. This smartie is house and crate trained! She sleeps quietly in her crate and is kenneled whenever her foster family is out of the house. We don’t recommend leaving her out unsupervised as she may help herself to whatever she finds in the kitchen. Teeka’s love for food is next level and she will try to sneak a bite from you or the other dog’s bowls, but has shown no signs of resource guarding. She is still working on her leash manners, but is getting better every day! She gets a little too excited when she sees other dogs, but is learning to calm down and continue on her walk. This happy girl absolutely loves toys! She knows where the toy basket is and will get one so you can join in the fun. She’s a huge fan of fetch and tug of war! Teeka is learning the joys of relaxing too. She loves to lay on your legs and get some pets and give some kisses. She’s happy just to be near her humans. Teeka is a young pup with boundless energy that will thrive in a home with a yard, daily exercise, training and patience. She’s a goofy, happy, loving girl and with just one look into those pretty doe eyes, your heart will melt! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Ann Marie is the kind of dog who makes you wonder why anyone ever leaves the couch in the first place. One look at her wiggly little body, her happy piggy-snorts, and her dramatic belly-flop routine and you’ll understand exactly why her foster calls her the absolute sweetest girl ever. Honestly, “Ann Marie” feels a little too formal for a dog whose greatest passions in life are naps, snacks, belly rubs, and aggressively cuddling anyone who dares sit down near her. This girl is basically a professional snuggler. She may not have the trophy to prove it, but she is fully convinced she won first place years ago. Her signature move? The Belly Roll™. The second she senses affection might be available, she’ll dramatically plop onto her back, wiggle-wiggle across the couch, and patiently wait for her spa treatment. Belly rubs are not optional in Ann Marie’s world… they are simply part of the daily schedule. Watch her rolls and wiggles in action here! https://youtu.be/8SoGUl3IYv8 At around 8 years old and 50 pounds, Ann Marie has perfected the art of being the ideal low-maintenance companion. We think she may be a boxer/beagle mix, but with rescue it’s always a guess! She’s happy to snooze beside you during a movie marathon, supervise your patio lunch date, join you for a beach day, or accompany you on leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. She’s got enough goofy sparkle left to make you laugh every day, but none of the “chaos gremlin” energy that comes with younger dogs. She is the perfect mix of silly and settled. Her foster says she spends most of her day happily napping on the couch, and honestly? She’s extremely talented at it. Ann Marie absolutely adores people. She lights up around affection and naturally gravitates toward human companionship wherever she goes. She’s lived with a child and done wonderfully, and her foster says she’s been around large groups of people in the home and happily soaked up every ounce of attention. She’s the kind of dog who wants to quietly exist alongside her people, occasionally waddling over for kisses and couch cuddles before returning to her very important nap schedule. When it comes to other dogs, Ann Marie is very much a “thank you, but I already have my people” kind of girl. She’s confident, socially appropriate, and has shown respectful greetings and easy leash manners around other dogs, but she isn’t particularly interested in doggy friendships or chaotic playgroups. Her behavior team described her as more of a roamer who prefers calm energy and personal space. Because of that, Ann Marie would likely be happiest as the only dog in the home where she can fully relax and soak up all the attention. However, with the right match, she may also do well with a calm, confident, lower-energy male dog who respects boundaries and doesn’t try to constantly engage her. If there’s already another dog in the home, her rescue team would want a trainer discussion beforehand to help ensure it’s the right fit for everyone involved. She has also done well around cats, but she would do best with calm, dog-savvy kitties who mostly keep to themselves. Ann Marie isn’t looking for a feline wrestling partner, so playful cats who want to zoom around, swat at her, or constantly get in her face probably wouldn’t be her style. A mellow, respectful cat companion would be much more her speed. She’s house-trained, non-destructive, rides wonderfully in the car, walks beautifully on leash, and doesn’t need much exercise beyond short strolls and sniffy adventures. She would be an amazing apartment dog. And she would be just as content with a yard to sunbathe in. Her ideal home would probably involve comfy furniture, soft blankets, snacks magically appearing on schedule, and humans who appreciate the finer things in life… like afternoon naps and quiet companionship. If you’re an older couple, a retired homebody, or just someone searching for a loving best friend who wants to spend her golden years snuggled up beside you, Ann Marie might genuinely be your perfect match. She’s sweet, easygoing, hilarious in her own little ways, and full of the kind of love that makes a house feel softer and warmer the second she waddles into it. And yes… she still does the happy wiggle-butt thing when treats come out. Some things never change. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
Meet Nina – professionally known as Miss Buttered Roll. Nina is estimated to be around 2 years old, and honestly, we're not convinced she's a real dog. She might actually be a stuffed animal that somehow came to life. With her squishy little body, floppy ears, soulful eyes, and the most adorable collection of puppy rolls you've ever seen, Nina is the kind of dog that makes complete strangers stop and say, "Oh my gosh, LOOK at her!" We aren't exactly sure what breeds make up this precious girl. Maybe there's some hound, some boxer, maybe even a little Beagle mixed in there somewhere. Whatever the recipe was, it turned out absolutely perfect. Watch Nina's video here, then come back to read more! https://youtu.be/iAkCztwa3lY?si=UUdR7D_u09EKv68e Nina's foster family is completely obsessed with her, and it's easy to see why. Her foster dad says that all Nina wants in life is to love people and be loved right back. That's it. That's her dream. She doesn't need fame, fortune, or world domination. Just a comfy place to nap and humans to adore. And adore them she does. Nina is what we like to call a "respectful Velcro dog." She wants to be near her people because you're her favorite thing in the entire world, but she also has lovely manners. She'll follow you from room to room, check in to make sure you're okay, and then politely settle nearby while you cook dinner, work on your laptop, or binge-watch your latest TV obsession. Physically, Nina is pure perfection. Her caramel-colored coat is accented by adorable white markings, and her little body is delightfully squishy in all the right places. She has the kind of extra skin and jiggly rolls that make you want to gently squish her cheeks and tell her she's beautiful approximately 47 times a day. When she gets excited, her whole body seems to wiggle independently, creating what can only be described as a full-body happiness ripple. Nina currently lives with multiple other dogs and enjoys having canine friends around. She's playful, social, and likes to join in on the fun. That said, she's also a bit of a self-appointed playground supervisor. If the doggy shenanigans start getting a little too wild, Nina may step in and let everyone know she's keeping an eye on things. Because of this, she tends to do best with thoughtful introductions and dogs who appreciate her leadership style. A calmer dog companion could be a wonderful match, though she'd also be perfectly happy soaking up all the attention as an only dog. On leash, Nina can get very excited when she sees other dogs and may bark or pull because she wants to investigate. Once proper introductions happen, she's much more relaxed. Because of this, we'd prefer a home environment over apartment living where she'd regularly encounter unfamiliar dogs in tight spaces. As for cats, Nina's cat test was inconclusive. She showed curiosity and interest but remained polite and chose to walk away on her own. We'd be happy to arrange additional cat testing for families with feline friends. Nina hasn't been formally kid tested yet, but based on her incredibly affectionate, gentle, people-loving personality, we think she has the potential to be a wonderful family dog. We're happy to complete kid testing for interested adopters to help ensure the best match. The truth is, Nina is one of those dogs that just makes life better. She's funny without trying, sweet without effort, and loving without limits. She's the dog who will greet you like you've been gone for years when you were only outside taking out the trash. The dog who will happily curl up next to you after a long day and remind you that everything is going to be okay. If you've been searching for a best friend with a heart of gold, a face that belongs on a greeting card, and enough squishiness to heal your soul, Nina is waiting to meet you. Apply today and adopt the world's cutest little butter roll. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6a15fa637edb59c3c00888ef Questions?
