Howdy partners! I'm Rocky, the sweetest meatball in the Wild West! I started my journey at Animal Aid after my previous family had a baby who was very allergic to me. The transition has been a little... Rocky ... but I've proven myself to be the most loving, goofy partner in crime to the new people in my life. My nervousness around strangers can easily be worked through with patience, yummy treats, and a good head scratch. Don't be surprised if I sound the alarm when danger approaches our home! I haven't spent a ton of time with other dogs, but I never seem to mind being in the same space as them. I ignore them and mind my own business. I'm sure I could get along with a canine sibling if introduced slowly. I've shown an interest in chasing the neighborhood cats outside, so a cat free home is probably ideal. Older, respectful kids are also totally in my social wheelhouse. I'm looking for a home with either a fenced yard or a very quiet neighborhood. I'm still working through my fear of all the sights and sounds that I encounter on leashed walks outside of my comfort zone. A personal yard to zoom and play would be perfect for burning energy and those pesky extra pounds that I'm trying to lose. My foster parents say that I'm a total dream when left alone at home. No separation anxiety here! As long as I have a loving family to cuddle with at the end of the day, I'm putty in your hands. We adopted Xena when she was 8 weeks old. She was rescued by a woman who rescued the whole litter and the mother. She was a sweet puppy. She loves attention and wants to be by your side at all times. She is very protective of whomever she is protecting. She unfortunately doesn’t do well with other dogs and she often growls at other people who come into the space of whomever she is ‘protecting’. We keep her away from other animals and small children as we don’t want there to be any issues. My sister recently had a baby and we had her over and it was challenging to help care for the baby. Xena was protective of me and o couldn’t trust her. I will be having the baby a lot and I can’t put the baby at risk. She has a lot of energy and loves to walk and does very well on the leash walking and running…she is crate trained as well. She does well for over 12 hours-I am a nurse and she’s fine all day.
