Story
Meet Muffin, formerly known as Coco! Muffin came to us as an owner surrender. What we`ve learned is that Muffin is 110% shiba, meeting all of the breed standards for temperament: `The Shiba Inu has spirited boldness, good nature, unaffected forthrightness and an independent and reserved nature.` [From the breed club] `All these aspects are seen in the breed and sometimes in the same dog. Overall, though, Shibas tend to think of themselves first and all else after. People must be willing to adjust to the Shiba temperament and work with it, not against it. `For Muffin, no truer words have ever been spoken. Muffin demonstrates keen intelligence alongside some specific behaviors which our team will gladly go over with interested adopters. He`s very smart, loves having a task and loves staring adoringly up into the eyes of his chosen people in between looking for those stale fries that fell between some couch cushions months ago and tracking squirrels outside. He loves car rides, is crate trained, housetrained, walks well on a leash (unless he wants to follow his nose into the bushes, then you may have a shiba standoff. Shiba people know what we mean!) and has a cute little jaunty way about him that is just SO cute! He loves playing with his toys and will literally prance up, throw one at your feet and wait for you to throw it for him. Stop by today to learn more about this cutie!-----------------The Seattle Animal Shelter is committed to reducing length of stay for all of our shelter pets! Some pets qualify for FREE or reduced adoption fees, please inquire with our Animal Care team to learn more. Pets are complex beings and prior to adoption, interested adopters will be counseled by a staff member to discuss the specific needs for each animal. This will include reviewing all known medical and behavior information. ** Please note that some animals will receive numerous inquiries, sometimes more than we can process. We appreciate your understanding and patience. **HOW TO ADOPT: Check the animal’s location. From the Dog Kennels/Dog Isolation/Dog Quarantine (in shelter): To meet this dog, please come to Seattle Animal Shelter at 2061 15th Ave W, Seattle, WA 98119, between 1 – 5 pm one of on one of our open days, no appointment needed. Story
Hi… my name is Holly. Before I even had the chance to understand what the world was, I was standing at the edge of losing it. I was on a euthanasia list. I didn’t know what that meant — only that everything felt uncertain and scary. But someone gave me another chance. Now I’m here, waiting for you. I’m a little shy at first. When I meet new people or step into new places, I like to pause and watch from a small distance. I just need a moment to understand that I’m safe. If you give me that time, I promise you’ll see something special — I’ll slowly walk closer, maybe sit near you, maybe rest quietly by your side. I’m not the kind of girl who rushes in with big, dramatic affection. I’m the kind who loves deeply once I trust you. Because I’m a Shiba mix, I’m observant and thoughtful. I notice your tone, your mood, the way you move. The less you rush me, the faster I open my heart. I get along well with other dogs too. I don’t push to be the center of attention — I prefer to read the room and join gently. I’m only 10 months old. I’m still learning what it means to live in a home. House rules, walks, playtime, rest — these are all things I’m ready to learn with you. What I need most isn’t pressure to be perfect. I need patience. Consistency. A calm voice that says, “It’s okay, Holly. Take your time.” If I can grow up in a stable home… If someone calls my name softly each day… If I can build trust little by little… I will become a steady, loyal, deeply devoted companion. I’m looking for a family who appreciates quiet connection. A family who understands that love doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. A family who will cherish the moment when a shy dog finally chooses to lean into them. I was once almost out of time. Now I’m waiting for my forever. Will you hold my paw and show me that my world can be filled with safety instead of fear — with love instead of uncertainty? I’ll be waiting for you. 🐾

Story
Meet Ttre Age: 5 years Sex: Spayed Female Breed: Shiba Jindo Mix Color: White Weight: 19 kg Height: 54 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story In September 2021, a report was made that young puppies were being physically abused by their owner. The puppies were rescued and transferred to a local shelter, but they later faced imminent euthanasia. A private rescuer stepped in and saved them.   Since then, the rescuer shared Ttre’s adoption profile with multiple organizations, yet not a single adoption inquiry came through. Ttre is currently being fostered by a local professional trainer, where she has been living in a stable and structured environment.   Human Social Skills   Ttre is an exceptionally affectionate dog who loves people. She happily approaches both familiar faces and strangers, rubbing against them and allowing easy handling. With treats, she often showers people with kisses.   She has no preference between men or women and is gentle and affectionate even with children under 13. She can be comfortably lifted by placing an arm under her belly, and when she’s feeling relaxed and happy, she will even show her belly to people she’s just met.   Dog Social Skills When meeting unfamiliar dogs, Ttre will approach to sniff but does not immediately initiate play. She enjoys playing and goofing around with dogs she feels comfortable with, but in general, she is far more people-oriented than dog-oriented.   She does not like overly high-energy or provocative dogs well. While she isn’t aggressive (mostly just vocal), she also doesn’t quietly endure uncomfortable situations. She carries some classic Shiba-like personality traits.   Cats During walks, she may look at cats with curiosity, but she follows human guidance well and redirects easily. Cat testing is available upon request.   Energy Level Moderate energy. She enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but once her exercise needs are met, she settles down calmly and rests well indoors.   Walks Ttre has plenty of leash experience and generally walks nicely without pulling, staying attentive to her handler. She can be a bit distractible at times and may show mild stubbornness if she has a preferred direction—true to her breed mix.   Other Behaviors • No food guarding (with people or dogs) • Rarely barks • Calm and cooperative in a kennel • Gets in and out of the car on her own • Primarily does her business outdoors   Ttre is a dog who has waited quietly for far too long—not because she isn’t wonderful, but because she was overlooked. She would thrive in a home that appreciates her people-focused nature, respects her boundaries with other dogs, and offers her the companionship she has always been ready to give.   If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and emotionally mature companion, Ttre may be the one you’ve been waiting for. Story
The right home for Katsu should be experienced with Shiba Inus, and free of other animals or children. Katsu is completely house-trained and thrives in an environment where she has access to the outside (she will let you know when she needs to go out, but will also often sleep in as long as you will because she enjoys being close). She’s a very affectionate dog and likes to be very close to her family (she will follow you around the house, and prefers to sleep in the same bed). She’s very athletic and enjoys training or following commands (she’s got a really strong will and is incredibly intelligent). She enjoys chill walks in quiet parks, and simply lounging around the house. While she’s very tolerant of our toddler, she would do best in a child-free home and should be closely monitored around children. She loves meeting new people but takes a few minutes to warm up to guests. She does not do well around other dogs and has a strong prey drive to hunt small animals.

Story
Hi, my name is Haerang 🐾 I’m a 3-year-old male Shiba–Welsh mix, weighing about 7kg. I have a slim body, short little legs, and bright, sparkling eyes that people often fall in love with right away. I was rescued from a shelter where euthanasia was taking place. Before that, I spent a long time in a shelter environment where I didn’t get many chances to experience the world. I was very shy and fearful back then, often hiding quietly on my own. But I’ve changed a lot since then. As I learned what human warmth feels like, I slowly opened my heart. Now, I truly love people. When you call my name, I’ll happily roll over and show you my belly, wiggling my way toward you for affection. I have a very gentle, calm, and stable personality, and being with me tends to make people feel relaxed and at ease without even realizing it. My favorite thing in the world is my person. I can coexist peacefully with other dogs and even cats, but I’m more of a “one-on-one” kind of guy. I’m happiest in a quiet, calm home where I can enjoy peaceful time with my family rather than a busy, crowded environment. I already know the command “house,” I walk nicely on leash, and I do well riding in the car too. With potty training, I might have a few small accidents in a brand-new environment, but I’m very steady and gentle by nature—if you guide me patiently and kindly, I’ll learn just fine. In unfamiliar places, I may seem a little timid at first. But give me some time, and I’ll be the one coming to you, asking for love. Before you know it, I’ll be following you everywhere like your little shadow—your loyal, affectionate “velcro dog.” I’m not a dog who adjusts instantly. I’m a dog who blossoms when someone waits for me and believes in me. I’ve been learning to trust human arms again, and now I’m ready to give my whole heart to one forever family. If you’re looking for a quiet, gentle companion who will stay close by your side for life, I’m right here—waiting just for you. 💛
