Story
Meet Pepper, a super cute 8 year old spayed female shih tzu mix, currently weighing about 20 lbs! Pepper was overweight (26 lbs) when she came to us - her foster mom has done a wonderful job putting her on a diet and working some exercise into her daily routine to get her to a healthier weight. She should probably drop a couple more lbs to get to her ideal weight.
Pepper came to us as a local owner surrender, through no fault of her own. She has been loved her whole life, however her family made the difficult decision to rehome her after she became very stressed out by the toddler and young baby in her home. She is a sweet girl who would do best in a calm, quiet home, as loud noises and chaos (little kids running around, etc.) make her nervous/anxious.
This little lady is friendly and has done great with all new people she has met! No issues with men at all. Due to her anxiety around young children in her previous home, we think she would do best in a home with older kids 12+ who know to respect a dog's space, or no kids. She is good with other dogs of all sizes and energy levels. She has not been cat tested, but we feel she would likely do fine with cats. She is quiet and laid back, on the lower energy side and a pretty low maintenance dog!
Pepper has recently had a dental and had many of her teeth pulled, but she has no problem eating dry food. She also eats rx urinary food due to previous bladder stones.
From Pepper's current foster:
"If someone can get past her funny snaggletooth, she’s a great dog! When you say “it’s bedtime” she runs happily into the crate. She comes to her name and has excellent house manners.
Pepper likes napping, being around her people, belly rubs, finding soft blankets to cuddle in, likes going for walks (she gets so excited when she sees me put my coat on thinking she’s going for a walk). She walks great on leash! She is a quiet and calm girl who loves attention, but she does fine in the crate too."
Pepper is medically up to date, housebroken, and crate trained. Apply to meet this special girl today!

Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs. We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted. As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding!
