Oreo is a sweet and timid 2.5 lb Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix born in foster care on 11/19/2025. She is a very careful listener; as you can see in the attached video, she has already successfully picked up the "sit" command. Oreo is a bit clumsy, but she is very affectionate and always likes to have physical contact with people or other dogs. While she is quite playful with others, she hasn't shown much interest in toys just yet but would love a home with a canine companion to show her the ropes. Due to her small size, a home with young children is not appropriate. Given her age, her new home should have the time and patience required to continue her basic training. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. DOB 4-30-2025 DeChen is looking for his new home and Mom! He's a beautiful Shih Tzu with a good personality, loves to play and gets along with others. DeChen is complete on all medical, up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative and has received a ProHeart6 preventative injection. This boy will come with all his registration and medical papers. His adoption fee is 900.00, his transport fee is 165.00. Our transport is HEARTS LLC, they are the best and deliver to East Coast every other week. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Shih Tzu puppy fully vetted and ready for adoption.Backstory for Jasper Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with a hoarding situation where several litters of puppies were born in quick succession. Dozens of Shih Tzu were living in a very small apartment when hobby breeding quickly became untenable. It is an honor to help get all of the adults neutered so the breeding stops, as well as ensure that the babies are placed with lifetime families. Get to Know Jasper Age: 9 months Breed: Shih Tzu birthdate: 2.20.2025 Weight: approximately 10 pounds. He is 85% of his full size. He could stay this size or gain another pound. Vaccines and treatments: Rabies Bordetella DHPP, part one and two Other tests and procedures for the litter: Heart worm test - negative Erlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme test - negative Fecal test - negative Additional procedures: Microchipped Bloodwork -- in normal and healthy ranges Neuter surgery in October, 2025 Requested adoption donation fee is only $900. This is to partly cover his veterinary bills and care expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to help him. Breed and Hair Notes Jasper has hair and not fur. He is a stunning white Shih Tzu with the sweetest smile and tongue. He is incredibly handsome and distinguished, even as a baby! PLEASE NOTE: Jasper's hair will grow as it is not fur. He will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Jasper has been amazing for his baths, haircuts, and nail trims. He will even just lay down on the grooming table, thankful for the attention, love, and care given to him. Personality Jasper is incredibly loving and playful. He loves to wrestle and nap with his littermate named Ivy, as well as the other puppies we are helping at present. He's also become friends with some of the older Saints like Stanley here in the sanctuary. His favourite thing in the world is to be hugged and carried around. Ideal Home It is ideal for Jasper to be in a home with other small dogs and/or very dog friendly cats around. He would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if his people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case. Jasper will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. Jasper would be okay for a few hours on his own with his siblings if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you’re away. Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Jasper. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing. If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Jasper. He is going to be a little boy, even full grown. He will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. Jasper is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word. His goal is to love and be loved. Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle.
