Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 7, 2026, 12:24 pm

Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.pretty hound ISO fresh start and love! LADY BIRD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lady Bird      Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing walker coonhound mix    Best Guess for Age:  6 years 9 months as of April 2026      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   52 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Lady Bird is Looking For:  Her forever home! Lady Bird landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she's eager to once again have her own humans. For sniffy walks (that hound nose - IYKYK!) and world exploration and quality kibble and a cushy dog bed, yes. But as an experienced dog, she knows what's most important in life: Knowing where she belongs, being safe and loved. What do you say? Are you her fresh start? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:     As of May 4, 2026, I’ve had the pleasure of fostering Lady Bird for just a few days, and even in this short time, she has quietly started to show who she really is, and it is very special. When she first arrived, Lady Bird kept to herself, finding comfort in her crate and watching the world from a safe distance. Everything was new and a bit overwhelming, but even then, you could see her gentle, sweet nature just beneath the surface. She is still decompressing and building confidence, but each day she’s taking small, meaningful steps forward.   Lady Bird is very much a hound at heart. She loves to take her time outside, following her nose and exploring the world at her own pace. She has a particular interest in sniffing cars (minivans especially) and while she’s still building confidence in new environments, she becomes more curious and engaged once she’s outside. Inside the home, Lady Bird currently prefers her crate as her safe space and does best when it is partially covered, which helps her feel secure. She is also a big napper (and snorer) and spends a lot of her day resting and recharging, which seems to help her process everything around her. That said, she is beginning to branch out!   Today she went up and down the stairs on her own and, for the first time, chose to settle on the couch after I showed her that she was allowed. After a while, she quietly shifted closer, rested against me, and fell asleep. It was a small but incredibly meaningful moment of trust. Lady Bird is the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into things. She may not always ask for attention, but when she feels safe and you show her that she is allowed to want things, she truly melts into her surroundings. She is very gentle and has shown polite interest in other dogs, as she enjoys a quick sniff and then moves on. As a former mom, she seems to have a soft spot for younger dogs and calmly notices children on walks, standing still so they can pet her. She is also still working on eating consistently and can sometimes eat or drink too quickly when she does, so smaller, more frequent meals have been helpful.   Heartworm information: Lady Bird is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. She has completed this activity restriction period.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! Alvin is fabulous! More than just a beautiful dog, he is housetrained, crate trained, rides well in the car, GREAT with other dogs, and good with the young kids in his foster home. We are not sure what his situation was before, but it does take him a few days to get comfortable in a new home. He will gently sit in a corner and observe quietly. He can be completely trusted and non-destructive. Another dog would help his confidence tremendously. He desperately wants to be loved and everyday he works up a little more courage. Absolute sweetheart. Please let us know if would like to meet this sweet boy! HART Homepage: https://hart90.org/ Questions About this Animal?
