Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.pretty hound ISO fresh start and love! LADY BIRD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lady Bird      Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing walker coonhound mix    Best Guess for Age:  6 years 9 months as of April 2026      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   52 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home Watch this video of Lady Bird playing with her foster sister, Babbette! Watch this video of Lady Bird as she learns how to use stairs for the first time!   Watch this video of the sweetest beagle girl watching 'The Fox and the Hound'.   Watch this video of Lady Bird going for a stroll. She's great on leash!   Watch this video of Lady Bird showing off her silly side.   Watch this video as Lady Bird enjoys the luxury of a quiet nap on her foster family's comfy couch with a cozy blanket.     Lady Bird is Looking For:  Her forever home! Lady Bird landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she's eager to once again have her own humans. For sniffy walks (that hound nose - IYKYK!) and world exploration and quality kibble and a cushy dog bed, yes. But as an experienced dog, she knows what's most important in life: Knowing where she belongs, being safe and loved. What do you say? Are you her fresh start? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:     I’ve had the pleasure of fostering Lady Bird for just a few days, and even in this short time, she has quietly started to show who she really is, and it is very special. When she first arrived, Lady Bird kept to herself, finding comfort in her crate and watching the world from a safe distance. Everything was new and a bit overwhelming, but even then, you could see her gentle, sweet nature just beneath the surface. She is still decompressing and building confidence, but each day she’s taking small, meaningful steps forward.   Lady Bird is very much a hound at heart. She loves to take her time outside, following her nose and exploring the world at her own pace. She has a particular interest in sniffing cars (minivans especially) and while she’s still building confidence in new environments, she becomes more curious and engaged once she’s outside. Inside the home, Lady Bird currently prefers her crate as her safe space and does best when it is partially covered, which helps her feel secure. She is also a big napper (and snorer) and spends a lot of her day resting and recharging, which seems to help her process everything around her. That said, she is beginning to branch out!   Today she went up and down the stairs on her own and, for the first time, chose to settle on the couch after I showed her that she was allowed. After a while, she quietly shifted closer, rested against me, and fell asleep. It was a small but incredibly meaningful moment of trust. Lady Bird is the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into things. She may not always ask for attention, but when she feels safe and you show her that she is allowed to want things, she truly melts into her surroundings. She is very gentle and has shown polite interest in other dogs, as she enjoys a quick sniff and then moves on. As a former mom, she seems to have a soft spot for younger dogs and calmly notices children on walks, standing still so they can pet her. She is also still working on eating consistently and can sometimes eat or drink too quickly when she does, so smaller, more frequent meals have been helpful.   Heartworm information: Lady Bird is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. She has completed this activity restriction period.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky, sweet, and radiant girl, you’ve found her! Meet Pennick, the hound mix described by all who meet her as a sweet and friendly gal that is just so happy and so much fun to be around. She carries herself with a smile and love for life that is infectious. She is most excited to go outside; she loves walking, sniffing, and just being in the great outdoors. While she has done well inside and outside, she prefers to be outside, only needing a little time to adjust to being inside. New experiences can be a bit overwhelming for Pennick, as she is a fan of the investigate slowly method, rather than jumping right in. Once she’s comfortable, she continues being herself, bringing all the joy with her! This pretty girl isn’t just the best dog; she is also a looker! Her outstanding white coat with tan spots distinguishes her from the rest of the pack. Speaking of, Pennick has been just as friendly to other dogs as to all her human buddies. Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Howdy partners! It’s me, Blackjack Joe! And I’m here to introduce myself and show you why I am the big piece missing in your life! We can start with my looks. If you’ll just take a quick look at my gallery, I have the classic Walker Hound look, perfect for anyone wanting those spots o’ black n’ brown. That isn’t all, though. I also have deep hazel eyes and a pink tongue that is always visible! Still aren’t convinced? Well, that’s okay, those are just my looks, let’s go over my manners and personality. I tend to think of myself as a happy-go-lucky kind of friend. I am happy to cuddle, shadow you around the house, or go for a nice and long walk; it’s your choice! I have been known to quickly sit in any available lap, and have made many friends in my time here at Lost Dog. Walks are probably my favorite, though! As a hound, I love to put my nose to the ground and never let a scent go cold. I am your personal investigator! So, if you think you can keep up with my legs and nose, I’m up for the challenge! Overall, I am just a hound’s hound who is a kind southern gentleman. Don’t miss out on me, and meet me today!

Story
Meet CJ – The Sweetest Little Hound Around! If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, CJ may be your perfect match! This handsome 1½-year-old Beagle/Hound mix weighs in at a perfect 32 pounds—just the right size for adventures, snuggles, and everything in between. CJ is truly one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He loves everyone he encounters and gets along wonderfully with people and other dogs alike. His gentle, affectionate personality makes it impossible not to fall in love with him. CJ's story hasn't always been easy. Before coming into rescue, he spent his life as an outside hunting dog and had never experienced the comfort of living inside a home. Thanks to his amazing foster mom, CJ is discovering just how wonderful family life can be! He's learning all about house manners, cozy beds, and potty training, and he's making great progress every day. As a young hound mix, CJ would love a canine sibling to romp and play with. Having another dog in the home would help keep him entertained and continue building his confidence. If he ends up being your one and only pup, he'll thrive with an active family that enjoys hiking, long walks, outdoor adventures, or even doggy daycare to help him burn off energy and socialize. CJ is true to his breed and follows his nose wherever it leads! He absolutely loves exploring the world through scent and would be happiest with a family that appreciates plenty of "sniffari" walks and opportunities to investigate all the exciting smells around him. Like many dogs adjusting to indoor life, CJ will need a patient family willing to continue his training and help him build confidence. In return, you'll get a devoted best friend who is eager to please and grateful for every bit of love he receives. CJ is ready to leave his past behind and start the next chapter of his life with a family of his very own. Apply today to meet this wonderful boy—you won't regret it! Alvin is fabulous! More than just a beautiful dog, he is housetrained, crate trained, rides well in the car, GREAT with other dogs, and good with the young kids in his foster home. We are not sure what his situation was before, but it does take him a few days to get comfortable in a new home. He will gently sit in a corner and observe quietly. He can be completely trusted and non-destructive. Another dog would help his confidence tremendously. He desperately wants to be loved and everyday he works up a little more courage. Absolute sweetheart. Please let us know if would like to meet this sweet boy! HART Homepage: https://hart90.org/ Questions About this Animal?
