Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 7, 2026, 12:24 pm

Story
*** Courtesy Post *** Geneva is a great lady who makes herself at home inside. She will settle into her couch and stay there curled up in a hound ball or stretched out like a snoozing pig for hours at a time. This sedentary side of Geneva's character belies her true passion, which is to be active outside in the company of her person. She generally does not like to be left alone outside (unless she has caught the scent of something); rather she bonds with her people through adventure - be it exploratory neighborhood walks, rampages at the local park chasing squirrels, ogling guinea pigs at PetSmart, or barking (and splashing) up a storm at the doggy beach. She is very comfortable getting in and out of cars, going to the vet, having her nails clipped (food is always a helpful incentive), and getting her teeth brushed.  While mild-mannered, Geneva barks when approached in close proximity by other dogs and generally does not enjoy their company (unless it's the doggy beach). Otherwise, Geneva does not seek out other dogs or pay them much mind. We have observed her bonding with some dogs, but it takes her time. For that reason, it is probably best that she is the only dog in the house or is introduced slowly. Geneva is very easygoing and trusting around older children, teens, and adults, but small children make her anxious (which is the only reason why we're rehoming her), so it would be best if she was placed in a home either without children or with children older than five. As a purebred coonhound, Geneva has a profound prey drive. Fortunately, she is very good at learning rules and can be trained where it is and is not permissible to bark. That being said, she would not be a good fit for a family with caged pets or cats. When you meet Geneva, you are immediately drawn to her gentle disposition, endearing soft ears that fan out with curiosity, and perceptive brown eyes. Do not be fooled by her age - Geneva is incredibly youthful and vivacious (When first adopted, someone asked how old she was and I told them she was seven. They clarified, "Seven months?"). She still loves to play chase in the backyard with her people, gnaws on toys when excited, and never tires of action. Geneva is wicked smart and easily picks up rules, hand gestures, tone, and routines (She knows that when I close my laptop at 4:30 and turn off my office lamp that it's time for dinner, so she preemptively runs to the kitchen.) She is not a licker or a "velcro dog," but Geneva appreciates quiet companionship and will be instant best friends with any one who engages her in play, takes her on a car ride, or runs around the park with her. Her goofy indignance and unwavering self-confidence have made her an endless source of entertainment. To know her is to love her (and laugh). Medical Note: Geneva has a thyroid condition that is easily managed with an inexpensive, twice-daily pill. She takes it with her meals, sometimes dipped in a smidge of peanut butter. Geneva is a courtesy post. If you would like to learn more about her, please email: adoptgeneva25@gmail.com. ##2603967##

Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.pretty hound ISO fresh start and love! LADY BIRD NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lady Bird      Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing walker coonhound mix    Best Guess for Age:  6 years 9 months as of April 2026      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   52 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here!   Special adoption considerations: Lady Bird is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Lady Bird is Looking For:  Her forever home! Lady Bird landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she's eager to once again have her own humans. For sniffy walks (that hound nose - IYKYK!) and world exploration and quality kibble and a cushy dog bed, yes. But as an experienced dog, she knows what's most important in life: Knowing where she belongs, being safe and loved. What do you say? Are you her fresh start? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:    We will update this once she has spent time in foster care,   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! To learn more about Blackjack Joe, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Blackjack Joe will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. Howdy partners! It’s me, Blackjack Joe! And I’m here to introduce myself and show you why I am the big piece missing in your life! We can start with my looks. If you’ll just take a quick look at my gallery, I have the classic Walker Hound look, perfect for anyone wanting those spots o’ black n’ brown. That isn’t all, though. I also have deep hazel eyes and a pink tongue that is always visible! Still aren’t convinced? Well, that’s okay, those are just my looks, let’s go over my manners and personality. I tend to think of myself as a happy-go-lucky kind of friend. I am happy to cuddle, shadow you around the house, or go for a nice and long walk; it’s your choice! I have been known to quickly sit in any available lap, and have made many friends in my time here at Lost Dog. Walks are probably my favorite, though! As a hound, I love to put my nose to the ground and never let a scent go cold. I am your personal investigator! So, if you think you can keep up with my legs and nose, I’m up for the challenge! Overall, I am just a hound’s hound who is a kind southern gentleman. Don’t miss out on me, and meet me today!
