Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 12, 2026, 9:57 am

He will have accidents if he is not crated and is alone for more then 8 hours. KNOWN LIKES: kisses, people, dogs, cuddler- KNOWN DISLIKES: ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Tony is a soulful 2-year-old hound with the sweetest eyes and an even sweeter heart. Weighing about 50 pounds, Tony has been through more than his share — he ended up in a high-kill shelter after likely being abandoned when he didn’t make the cut as a hunting dog. But despite it all, Tony has remained gentle, loving, and quietly hopeful for a second chance. Tony is: ✅ Great with other dogs – friendly, respectful, and easy to have around ✅ Housetrained – no messes, no stress ✅ Loves people – affectionate ✅ Quiet and easygoing – no excessive barking, just peaceful companionship This boy has a calm presence and a heart full of love. He’s happy to curl up beside you after a walk or just relax and soak up the peace of home life — something he’s been missing for far too long. Tony doesn’t need much — just a safe place, a soft bed, and someone to love him. After surviving the odds at a crowded shelter, he’s ready for a fresh start. His foster says the following: He is a sweet, not aggressive dog who defers to other dogs and plays well. He loves a stuffy toy! He comes when called, is affectionate and is happy to be petted. He is learning to live in a house with new noises and smells and rules. He listens well and knows “no” and walks well on a leash after some initial excitement. He has a funny personality with a small vocal moan when he is ready to go to sleep! He grins and has a cute way of sitting with a paw lifted up like he is waiting for someone to shake his paw!! He goes into his crate and doesn’t cry or bark. He loves running and exploring the woods (in a fenced yard) and comes back to the door once he has finished roaming. Smart boy!! Meet Alvin – Your Noble Friend! Alvin’s name is British and means “noble friend”—and it couldn’t be more fitting! This sweet, small hound is as friendly as they come, greeting everyone he meets with a wagging tail and gentle charm. Quiet and calm, Alvin rarely barks in his kennel and seems to genuinely enjoy the company of people. He gets along well with other dogs too, making him a wonderful companion all around. While Alvin isn’t in a foster home just yet, he keeps his kennel very clean, which suggests he may already be housetrained. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving buddy, Alvin might be the perfect match. Reach out to learn more or set up a meet-and-greet—we’d love to introduce you! Questions About this Animal? Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together! Meet Nora – The Pocket-Sized Cuddlebug with a Gentle Spirit Currently fostered in Silver Spring, MD With her beautiful chocolate and white coat, long silky ears, and soft eyes that speak volumes, Nora is the very picture of understated elegance. But don’t let her quiet arrival fool you - this sweet, shy girl is on a journey of transformation, and with the right person by her side, she’s bound to bloom. Nora is wary of men so would flourish in an all female household. Personality & Energy - Timid but loving – Nora is quite shy at first, as well as cautious around new situations and strangers. Once she warms up - she bonds very quickly, shows how big her heart is, and follows you everywhere! - Calm demeanor – She prefers short gentle activity or lounging close to her person. - Affectionate and clingy – She bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be by your side (or on your lap if you let her!). Home Life & Compatibility - House-trained – Nora is doing great with regularly scheduled potty breaks and has a natural preference to potty outside. She will need continued training, she is very treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. She is eager to please her people! - Crate-trained... sort of – Nora tolerates the crate but would prefer not to be left alone. She settles much better when she’s near her people. At first, she welcomes the crate as her safe place, but as she becomes more acclimated to her new home, the less she wants to be crated. - Lap guardian – She may growl softly if another dog tries to interrupt her snuggle time. She’s not aggressive, just gently possessive. - Dogs – Nora enjoys the company of other dogs of all sizes with a similar demeanor. She occasionally runs zoomies but spends most of her time lounging by her humans. - Cats and kids – Unknown, but Nora would likely do best in an easygoing, quieter home with adults. Training & Growth - Learning Off, Stay, No, and responding well. Nora gently jumps on her people for attention. - Wants to please and will thrive with calm guidance and positive reinforcement. Very treat-motivated! - Still discovering toys and play - her inner puppy came out a few weeks into her foster home. Ideal Home Nora dreams of a peaceful life where she can tag along with her person, lounge in sunspots, and be the loyal little shadow she was born to be. Transitions can be a scary time, and she will need a patient family with a calm household who will give her time to feel safe and come out of her shell. She would not do well in an apartment or urban setting, and she would benefit from a home with a secure fence. She would also benefit from someone who is home more often than not, as she prefers not to be alone, but mostly she just wants someone patient and gentle who will let her unfold at her own pace. Nora is the kind of dog who shows devotion in the purest way — by never leaving your side. Whether walking from room to room or settling down to rest, she follows faithfully, a constant shadow of love and loyalty. Nora is looking for her forever family! Is that with you? Click "apply for adoption" to get your family started! Included Veterinary Care: - Up to date on vaccinations for her age - Spayed - Microchipped - Heartworm preventative - Flea and tick preventative - Worm/parasite treatments
