KNOWN LIKES: kisses, people, dogs, cuddler- KNOWN DISLIKES: ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Tony is a soulful 2-year-old hound with the sweetest eyes and an even sweeter heart. Weighing about 50 pounds, Tony has been through more than his share — he ended up in a high-kill shelter after likely being abandoned when he didn’t make the cut as a hunting dog. But despite it all, Tony has remained gentle, loving, and quietly hopeful for a second chance. Tony is: ✅ Great with other dogs – friendly, respectful, and easy to have around ✅ Housetrained – no messes, no stress ✅ Loves people – affectionate ✅ Quiet and easygoing – no excessive barking, just peaceful companionship This boy has a calm presence and a heart full of love. He’s happy to curl up beside you after a walk or just relax and soak up the peace of home life — something he’s been missing for far too long. Tony doesn’t need much — just a safe place, a soft bed, and someone to love him. After surviving the odds at a crowded shelter, he’s ready for a fresh start. His foster says the following: He is a sweet, not aggressive dog who defers to other dogs and plays well. He loves a stuffy toy! He comes when called, is affectionate and is happy to be petted. He is learning to live in a house with new noises and smells and rules. He listens well and knows “no” and walks well on a leash after some initial excitement. He has a funny personality with a small vocal moan when he is ready to go to sleep! He grins and has a cute way of sitting with a paw lifted up like he is waiting for someone to shake his paw!! He goes into his crate and doesn’t cry or bark. He loves running and exploring the woods (in a fenced yard) and comes back to the door once he has finished roaming. Smart boy!! Story
Meet Alvin – Your Noble Friend! Alvin’s name is British and means “noble friend”—and it couldn’t be more fitting! This sweet, small hound is as friendly as they come, greeting everyone he meets with a wagging tail and gentle charm. Quiet and calm, Alvin rarely barks in his kennel and seems to genuinely enjoy the company of people. He gets along well with other dogs too, making him a wonderful companion all around. While Alvin isn’t in a foster home just yet, he keeps his kennel very clean, which suggests he may already be housetrained. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving buddy, Alvin might be the perfect match. Reach out to learn more or set up a meet-and-greet—we’d love to introduce you! Questions About this Animal? Story
If you are looking for a loyal outdoor companion with a heart of gold, say hello to Kahlua—an 8-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who defines “good ole’ boy” in the best possible way. Around 60 pounds of love and sweetness, Kahlua lives for sunshine, breezes, rustling leaves, and long, thoughtful walks. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t rush through life—he notices everything, appreciates the little things, and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment. Kahlua has impeccable manners. Need to tie your shoe? He’ll stop and wait. Collar slips off? He’ll walk right over so you can fix it. He listens beautifully and truly wants to please his person. He also has a fun side—he loves squeaky toys, playing fetch (sharing the ball is a work in progress!), giving kisses, and being tucked in under cozy blankets like the pampered hound he is.  This boy is also a lake and boat enthusiast—a true water bug who will happily join you for every lakeside adventure. He grew up with other dogs and prefers being the “big guy,” doing well with respectful smaller dogs or calmer companions. Solo walks? He’s relaxed and steady. With bigger, energetic dogs? He may pull a bit in excitement. Kahlua loves kids who treat him kindly and is friendly toward cats, even though he didn’t share a home with them before. Above all else, Kahlua is drawn to people who make him feel loved—give him attention and he’ll give you his whole heart. He does get springtime seasonal allergies, so starting Apoquel in February or early March keeps him feeling his best. It’s a simple bit of care for a dog who gives so much sweetness in return. Kahlua’s former mama adored him deeply but faced life changes that made caring for him impossible. Now he’s ready for a forever home where he can spend his years surrounded by stability, love, comfort, and a family who appreciates everything he has to offer. Kahlua is ready to be someone’s best friend. If you want a loyal companion with an old soul and endless love to share, come meet this wonderful boy.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in giving this boy the years of his life as your best sidekick ever   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 12, 2026, 9:57 am

Story
We first took Geneva in as a foster in July 2023 when she was 7-years-old and loved her sweet demeanor so much that we adopted her the following month. At the time we adopted her, Geneva was hugely overweight and suffering from an unmedicated thyroid problem. We succeeded in getting Geneva back on her medication and down to a healthy weight (~55lbs), true to her breed standard. Her thyroid condition is easily managed with an inexpensive, twice-daily pill. Geneva is adaptable, trusting, sharp as anything, and loves adventures - especially car rides, park romps, trips to PetSmart to ogle the guinea pigs, and endless hikes. Despite her seemingly sedentary nature inside, she would always prefer to be outside (with company). Geneva would be best placed in a home without small children (older children and teens OK) and without other pets, although we have observed her bonding with some smaller dogs.

These pups are in Vienna, Virginia too!

Story
Toby is a healthy, energetic 5-year-old purebred Beagle, born on a farm in Ohio and weighing about 37 lbs. He loves playing fetch, long walks, and staying active. Toby is affectionate, loyal, and people-oriented. He is well-behaved at home, fully house-trained, does not chew furniture or shoes, and signals when he needs to go outside. Sadly, we must rehome Toby due to jealousy and aggression toward a much smaller dog in our home. For safety reasons, Toby must be the only pet in the household (no dogs or cats). Beagles are social dogs and do not do well being left alone all day. Toby needs daily exercise, attention, and companionship. The ideal home would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or can spend plenty of time with him. Toby will thrive in a calm, loving home where he can receive consistent care and affection.

Story
Meet Shaggy, one of the Scooby Doo pups! Background: Velma and her three puppies - Fred, Shaggy, and Scrappy Doo -were found abandoned on Kelly Mountain in Logan County, WV, by a group of hunters, far from any nearby homes. When the hunters stopped, the dogs immediately approached them, friendly and social, leading us to believe they once had a home and were intentionally left behind. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and took the little family into her home until rescue help could be found. Because of her compassion and quick action, Velma and her pups are now safe and settling into their local foster homes. The puppies have been bathed, dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and received their first round of vaccinations. They are approximately 13 to 14 weeks old and will be ready to go home soon. We don't know their breed. Their mom, Velma, is a tall, trim dog who looks to be a Feist/Terrier mix, and is about 28lbs.  All three puppies are very friendly and enjoy being held. They’re active and playful but also sleep through the night without accidents - Good puppies! They’re already comfortable wearing collars, and their foster parents have begun leash introductions and short practice walks to build confidence. Shaggy (black collar) The largest puppy of the litter is very social and loves to play, but self-regulates more than his brothers. He will go to his bed to rest for a bit before going back to play.  This sweet boy will do best in an active home with a pup playmate to keep him entertained. He's been around large dogs and young kids, too, and does well with all.  If you have a puppy-friendly schedule and are prepared for potty training and basic obedience, apply today! Note: Shaggy is still too young to be neutered, but neutering at the appropriate age is required as part of his adoption terms. Proof of spay/neuter is required for all puppy adopters.   BREED ESTIMATE: Mutt Mix (Beagle/Hound or Feist/Terrier Mix) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  14.5 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 13-14 weeks (expected to be medium-sized dogs, 40- 45 lbs) COAT TYPE: Medium coat ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 OTHER INFO: DAPP (initial and 1st booster), Bordetella, too young to neuter) LOCATION:  Vienna, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted.
