Story
Hi, I’m Tilly! I’m two years old, about 55 pounds and 23 inches of knee-high perfection. My best guess is that I’m a Harrier hound, or small English Foxhound—I’m stocky, with a beautiful square head, but I don’t howl or even bark much. What I do have are the most gorgeous multicolored spots… and yes, I’ve been told I’m simply beautiful. I humbly agree. 😉 During the day, I’ve settled into a classic hound routine: exploring the backyard, playing with my foster siblings, breakfast, a nice nap, walk time, and then repeating the fun until it’s time to crash on the couch for the evening. I also sleep through the night outside of a crate, which I really prefer since I spent too many hours in one in my previous life. 😔 True to my likely heritage, I love running the yard with my nose to the ground, catching scents like the little explorer I am. Adventure is definitely my middle name. I can’t tell you exactly what my early life was like, but my foster family thinks I may have been a hunting dog who missed out on a lot of puppyhood—so now I’m soaking up the world with joyful enthusiasm and making up for lost time. The good news is that I’m proving to be a wonderful companion. I ride great in the car, I am extremely affectionate and seem to love all people, and I’m great with other dogs. I’ve even done wonderfully at adoption events, happily meeting new friends and soaking up attention. I’m still polishing a few skills in my foster home (think of it as finishing school!). This might be my first time being a true family dog. The best part? I absolutely adore my people—hugs and pets are the best! So if you’re looking for a freckled, fun-sized explorer with a playful heart — who had a rough start in life likely in a kennel for a good part of it — and a whole lot of love to give, I’m your girl. And remember - life’s just better with spots. 🐾 Tilly is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. Story
Meet Harlow, also known as Harley! This sweet Beagle girl was found as a pregnant stray in rural South Carolina and gave birth to her puppies in a local shelter. Thanks to one of our rescue partners, Harlow and her babies were taken in and given a second chance. Her puppies all found rescue, and this sweet mama girl came into our care. Now it's Harlow's turn to find her forever home. Harlow, now affectionately called Harley by her foster family, has settled in well to her new pack, living with a foster mom and dad, four dogs, and a 1-year-old toddler. Like many rescue dogs, she needed time to trust and learn the rules of home life, but her confidence continues to grow every day. She has a "live and let live" personality and has integrated easily with the other dogs. While she enjoys their company and often chooses to nap beside them, she's independent enough to thrive as an only dog, too. Whether she's part of a pack or the center of your world, Harlow is simply happy to be included. Harlow is a medium-energy girl who enjoys exploring the outdoors, zooming around the yard, meeting new people, and, above all else, playing with toys. She LOVES her toys. She happily empties the toy basket, entertains herself, and occasionally breaks into hilarious zoomies. Her nose is also almost always down, as you'd expect from a Beagle, and she does best walking with a harness. Harlow does great in her crate. She may whine or give you her very funny "old lady hound" howl when she sees you, but she settles down and relaxes. She's also very food motivated, which is a big help as she's learning more commands and working on her manners. Like many young dogs who have spent much of their lives living outdoors instead of being pets, Harlow is still learning the rules of home life. She's making great progress with housetraining, does well in her crate, and is learning leash skills. She's not destructive, but may chew something if left unattended for longer periods of time. She's also working on jumping up and counter surfing, typical young-dog behaviors that her foster family is helping her correct. She takes direction well. What stands out most about Harlow is her gentle, loving nature. Her foster family describes her as a very sweet, happy girl who has made great progress adjusting to home life. Watching her discover comfort, routine, and affection has been a joy, and she's ready to leave her life as mama behind and become someone's devoted companion. If you're looking for a kind, gentle Beagle with a playful side who would thrive with an active family willing to continue working on her manners, Harlow may be the perfect addition to your family.  Apply today! Story
Meet Poppy!  Some dogs just need another dog to show them the way, and that's exactly who Poppy is. This sweet young girl was found wandering as a stray in a known dumping area, but thanks to a Good Samaritan, she made her way to Worthy Dog Rescue and has discovered what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. Poppy has blossomed in her foster home, where she's living with another dog, Maggie, and several cats. While she was initially shy and reserved, with the help of her canine companion, she’s gaining confidence every day. Maggie has shown her the ropes, and Poppy now follows her everywhere, squeezes onto the couch or dog bed just to be close to her, and clearly takes comfort in having another dog by her side. Because of this, we feel Poppy will do best in a home with another confident, friendly dog to help her continue building confidence. Poppy is housetrained, crate trained, and settles well in her crate when her family is away. Like many rescue dogs adjusting to home life, she experienced some separation anxiety during her transition, so her crate has been an important tool in helping her feel safe and secure. Having another dog has also made a big difference, and we believe she'll do best with adopters who have a flexible schedule and can continue building her confidence as she settles into her new home. She's been great at navigating a busy household, including frequent visits from nurses, physical therapists, and even a steady stream of contractors during a home renovation. She's accepting of visitors, curious about children without being overly excitable, and isn't a jumper. Once she feels comfortable, Poppy has become more affectionate. She loves curling up on the couch for snuggles, sleeps in bed with her foster family, and is happiest when she's close to her favorite people. Her foster mom says one of her favorite things is watching Poppy gently rest her head on her husband’s knee while relaxing together. Outdoors is where Poppy's playful side really shines. She’s an active dog who loves walks and exploring new places, happily weaving through the brush, investigating every interesting scent, and chasing squirrels up trees. At home, she'll proudly bring you a tennis ball over and over again for an endless game of fetch, and she enjoys chewing on bones and sturdy toys. She’s been living in a more rural setting and would love an active family that enjoys spending time outside and will include her on walks, hikes, and adventures. Poppy is still gaining confidence in new situations, so she'll need a patient family willing to give her some time to settle in. The reward is a sweet, loyal companion who forms deep bonds and wants nothing more than to be close to the people and the dog companion she loves. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate dog who will thrive with a canine companion and blossom with love, patience, and adventure, Poppy may be the perfect addition to your family. Required: Needs a home with another social, confident dog and a flexible schedule.  Apply today!  BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~ 40 lbs (needs to lose a few pounds) APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  2 years old COAT TYPE:  short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Waxhaw, NC     FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Gypsy! Gypsy is a pretty Lab/Beagle mix with soulful eyes looking for a stable, loving forever home after spending her entire life with one family. She was surrendered to rescue when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. Thankfully, a family friend reached out to her foster mom, Janet, for help. Unlike many rescue dogs, Gypsy has always known life as a beloved family pet. She's lived in a home since she was a puppy, and it shows. She's house-trained, crate-trained, has excellent house manners, and transitioned into foster care with ease. Now a budding senior, Gypsy has a wonderful balance of playfulness and calm. She enjoys running and playing chase with the younger dogs, but once playtime is over, she's happy to settle in for a nap or relax by your side. She's lived both as an only dog and as part of a pack, making her very adaptable. She gets along well with dogs of all sizes and is even cat-friendly. Gypsy is friendly with visitors and enjoys meeting new people. She'll happily sit for a treat and gently take it from your hand. While she can be a little timid in new environments, she quickly gains confidence and becomes an affectionate, loyal companion who simply enjoys being with her people. She's also done well with children during visits from her foster mom’s grandchildren (ages 8 and up). On leash, Gypsy is a strong girl and can pull, so she'd benefit from continued leash training and a confident handler. Janet says Gypsy has been the perfect houseguest: "She's really easy and loves everyone. She talks to you when she wants something, which is so funny. I've also noticed she likes to keep an eye on everything and will happily 'guard the perimeter' of the yard like a devoted protector." Gypsy is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with her family. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will reward your love with unwavering devotion, Gypsy is ready to start her next chapter with you.
