Story
Meet Groot!
Groot is a 6-month-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix puppy. He is currently 28 lbs. Groot had Parvo as a baby but with treatment, love, and a strong will he survived and is now thriving!
A note from Groot himself:
"I was not supposed to be here anymore. I was just a tiny little boy and was so sick. I wasn't eating, throwing up... the works... My owner took me to the veterinarian, but could not pay for the treatment I needed. My owner did not want me to suffer and asked to put me to sleep.
The vet had treated many cases of Parvo. The vet knew I had a good chance of making it and called a rescue. They said yes, and my owner signed me over. People spoke up for me and said my life mattered... and I made it.
I got to go to a nice lady's home for quarantine. After that, I came to my new foster home. I am getting bigger. I play with my friends. I am such a good boy (he says). The trainer lady came and said I am so smart and easy to teach. I use the dog door and potty outside, and occasionally I still use a pee pad, 'cause I was used to that when I was in quarantine.
I LOVE other dogs and to play. I LOVE people. I follow really closely and come immediately when called. I walk well on leash. I LOVE being alive. All I need now is a forever home."
Please note:
We review veterinary care for applicants. This includes regular well visits, core vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm, and tickborne tests, as well as regular monthly heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention. You MUST contact your veterinarian’s office to give them permission to speak to us BEFORE we call them to verify the care you have provided for your pets.
Applications are available at www.puppypawsrescue.org If your application meets our adoption criteria, we will contact you within 1 week. At that time, you will be contacted (usually by email) to schedule a phone interview and a virtual home visit (Facetime, Skype, etc). PLEASE CHECK your SPAM folder for emails from Puppy Paws Rescue.
Due to the volume of applications, applications that do not move forward to an interview may not receive a reply within that time frame. Our rescue is an all-volunteer team managing families, our paying jobs, households, foster dogs, application processing, interviews, home visits, follow-up, transports, and much more. We ask that you are courteous and patient with us.
If you’re seeing this listing the dog/puppy is still available. Please do not send an inquiry asking if the dog/puppy is available.
All of our dogs/puppies are kept in private foster homes. For this reason, we do not schedule meets until after an application has been processed and approved. If you’re interested in meeting the animal, you must first submit an application on our website- www.puppypawsrescue.org.
