House trained: Yes Energy level: Medium Noise level: Some barking when left alone My foster guardian says: My favorite thing about Wanda is how happy and loving she is! Shes basically the perfect companion! Likes: Going for walks, sniffing all the smells, snoozing on the couch Hi, Im Wanda! My foster family describes me as super sweet, friendly, and easy-going! Im the perfect mix of social butterfly and couch potato, and Id be a great fit for just about any family! In addition to being totally potty trained, Im very well-behaved at home and on-leash, and I sleep through the night in my crate. I get a little anxious being left home alone, but my foster family says Im gaining confidence with practice. After all, I only just moved to D.C., so Im still adjusting! One thing I havent needed any adjustment time for are the big city noises! Im a confident lady, and Id be a great pup for someone who lives in an apartment downtown. I dont mind the hustle and bustle of the city, and Im super quiet. I'm just working on quieting down a bit when I'm left home alone. I love going for walks, and meeting new friends. I consider every other human and dog I encounter to be a potential new BFF! Im very outgoing and social, and I also love playing at the dog park! I do really great in the car and would love to go on all your adventures. Id be thrilled to join a family where I had a doggy sibling, or to be an only child (all the treats for me!). When Im not enjoying myself out on the town, I like to spend my time dozing in the sun. My favorite thing about being out of the shelter is the new-to-me concept of a couch! I love a couch! Im an amazing napper, and Id be more than happy to share my coziest spots with my forever family! I know the art of relaxation well, and Id be a great fit for someone who also enjoys some downtime at home. If youre looking for a gentle, laid-back, loving, loyal pup to add to your pack, its no Wanda that Id be the perfect fit! Apply to adopt me today! Alvin is fabulous! More than just a beautiful dog, he is housetrained, crate trained, rides well in the car, GREAT with other dogs, and good with the young kids in his foster home. We are not sure what his situation was before, but it does take him a few days to get comfortable in a new home. He will gently sit in a corner and observe quietly. He can be completely trusted and non-destructive. Another dog would help his confidence tremendously. He desperately wants to be loved and everyday he works up a little more courage. Absolute sweetheart. Please let us know if would like to meet this sweet boy! HART Homepage: https://hart90.org/ Questions About this Animal? Story
This handsome fellow is good with people, but he has never learned how to play with other dogs. He’s walking well on a harness and leash. He loves going on walks (where he won't encounter other dogs) and he’s shown that he enjoys going for a swim in the water. Farley loves getting one-on-one attention. Due to his history (see below), he will never be a dog that can go to a dog park, but he would love a fenced backyard to run and play in. If you’d like to have a single dog to cuddle and have no cats in your home, Farley would be a perfect buddy for you. Farley spent nearly all his life at the end of a chain. He was attacked by an animal, perhaps a dog, and received terrible injuries on his neck. Due to his history, Farley is reactive around other dogs while on a leash. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET FARLEY, PLEASE SUBMIT A MYM FORM AND WE WILL ARRANGE A SPECIAL MEETING. FARLEY DOES NOT COME TO REGULAR ADOPTIONS. Gender:  Neutered Male DOB: Approx. 1/23/2019 Current size; 31 pounds   PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Story
Penny has come a  long way in the short time we've had her. Initially she was very timid, but now she has become more curious. Penny has realized that people mean good things--treats and pets. She is friendly and appears to be crate-trained. We suspect she may be a little timid initially in a new home, but she will warm up quickly when she feels safe.  Penny came to us with her sister, Mouse, as well as with Mindy, who we believe is her mother. They all came from southwestern Virginia. Gender: Spayed Female Current Size: 16 pounds Breed: Beagle (?) Mix Approximate DOB: 2/1/2024  PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl ISO happily ever after! DOROTHY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Dorothy        Best Guess for Breed:  Beagle mix   Best Guess for Age:   4 years as of July 2026       SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight: 18 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   Rural shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here.   Special adoption considerations: Dorothy is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Dorothy is Looking For:   This sweetie landed in the shelter due to no fault of her own but she's closed that chapter. Now she's ready for her new chapter and is looking for a loving home to call her own. Dorothy would love going for nice sniffy walks (gotta make that beagle nose happy!), exploring the world with her humans, and going to dog school to show you how super smart she is. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed and cuddles round out her wish list. And she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship in exchange. What do you say? Does that sound like a fair trade to you? What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once she has spent time in foster care.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
