BIRDIE is a senior special-needs little girl who is now Sponsorship only, and requires special food and care. She has a constantly recurring growth, she is now 12 going on 13 years old, she has a funny little cough when she gets excited which we also need to examine just in case there is a tracheal issue. She will need careful surgery to remove the growth, and at the same time serious teeth scaling (including just beneath the gum line, and always the possibility of removal of any tooth that is beyond help). She is highly intelligent, but because of age, no longer a good adoption prospect, so will get to stay with us for the rest of her years. We do this with many pups who are no longer adoptable, a labor of love :o) But unfortunately this brings on many increasingly large veterinary costs, to keep them healthy and to deal with any treatable issues they may encounter. Birdie is most likely a combination of Yorkshire Terrier and Chinese Crested with maybe a little Papillion thrown in. She is ten pounds. She was rescued from an unsafe situation and has bonded with Alice, another special-needs senior rescue girl pup at our place. The other older senior would not do well without Birdie and they keep each other happy, while receiving the specialized care they need. Birdie has been spayed, is current on everything, receiving every kind of veterinary care she needs. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND CONSIDERATION MEET STEFFIE….an adorable, happy, 7 yr old, tan/black, 15 lb, Lhasa Apso mix, who unfortunately found herself homeless when her senior owner could no longer care for her. She was so matted that the groomer needed to shave her 🙁 Owner reported she continuously tried to escape, but she has been very happy here and she stays put. One thing she does like to do is roll the window down while you are driving. She did this in her previous home and ended up jumping out of the car and injuring herself. She is fully recovered — but make sure you have locks on your car windows! Steffie is a character. Her original name was Cheff — but since she doesn’t cook, we changed it! She has a big personality and is extremely playful, loving, kissy and attentive. She loves toys and to fetch (even sometimes brings it back to you) — and kissing is her other favorite pastime! If you don’t want a dog to snuggle up in your bed, Steffie would not be the right girl for you. She likes to be on high places, be the boss of the house and be a happy girl. She will bark if she hears noises (like on the TV) and wants to protect the house! She is OK with other dogs but is possessive of her person, so we believe she would be best as an only dog. On walks (which she LOVES), she can also be protective but when approached slowly, she likes to meet and greet everyone on the street. Her potty training is pretty good — but no guarantees at your house. All in all, Steffie is a girl who would be happy as your one and only — but doesn’t love being left alone. A household where her parents work from home and include her in activities woud be ideal. Older kids (10+) who enjoy a playful dog would be fantastic. This girl just wants to have fun…how about you? (respectively) Caitlyn and Cameron are 18/22 lbs, both 2 yrs old, tan/black Lhasa/Shih Tzu and Lhasa X — likely litter mates. When we get dogs like these two, it reminds me why I fell in love with the breed. Not only are they gorgeous, but they are so smart and have so much personality! We were called and told that a Good Samaritan found them huddled in an alley together and was taking them to the Orange County Shelter to locate their owners. Yes, they were a mess. No they didn’t walk on a leash until they came to us, but they are so loving and happy, we are thrilled that they are here. It was difficult getting individual pictures of them because they are always together, on top of each other and/or playing. They even do their business in unison!! They love to cuddle with each other and you — they give lots of kisses and just reek of puppy love! Initially, they were very fearful and reluctant to meet anyone, but not an ounce of aggression. It takes a minute for them to warm up, but it is so understandable. They have only been here a short time and they are already overwhelming their foster with affection and love. As every day passes, they get more and more rambunctious. Definitely need an active family to love these two to life. The ideal home for Caitlyn and Cameron would be one where there are kids over 8 yrs, a yard and dog parents who are able to spend time and train them. They seem to be potty trained, but no guarantees at your house. They have been extremely quiet, but they just recently arrived. They are learning what toys are…all the writer of their profile can say is they are VERY SPECIAL and will only go home together, so please don’t ask us to split them up. Our website is updated daily. We named him Gumbo because he’s a very eclectic breed combo, maybe Lhasa or Tibetan Terrier and Pomeranian? He doesn’t shed 😉 He’s only a year old, tri colored with a black mask and 20 lbs. Maybe Tibetan Terrier X? We don’t know, but it doesn’t matter to us. HE IS A SWEETHEART! 100% puppy! He hails from the streets of Compton, where he was rescued before getting hit by a car! Gumbo is an active guy, as any one year old puppy is….but he does settle down and loves to cuddle. On walks, he wants to meet everyone and socialize! After he was neutered and dewclaws were removed, we took him to doggie day care to play with the other pups — and he is having a ball! Reports are he’s getting along with everyone, great eater and just needs to learn some manners! He does love to please and listens!! He was getting the hang of potty training but will need a refresher course after being at daycare! The one thing we have learned about Gumbo is he does not like being alone or separated from the action. He needs a family (kids over 8 would be good, younger he might knock them over!) that will take time to train him and love him to life!! He’s a big kisser and just a very happy go lucky dog.
