    Poppy York 7 Pounds - Approximately 1 year old  - Sweet, quiet girl looking for patience and a soft place to land   Poppy is a gentle, placid little soul who is still finding her footing in the world. In the short time she’s been with her foster family, she has already shown how sweet she can be. She has sat calmly on a chair with her person and another dog and seemed content just being close.    She is happiest when she can stay near her people - often simply relaxing in her crate nearby. She did not enjoy being crated in a room by herself, so she does best when she can keep an eye on her family. She is shy and uncertain about new surroundings, which is completely understandable (Poppy is from a hoarding environment). She needs a person/family who will give her space, quiet, and time to decide when she’s ready. We don’t know exactly how long that will take or how outgoing she will become, but the signs so far are encouraging: she is already showing she can feel safe and comfortable when no one rushes her. Poppy is still learning the basics of home life. She is not yet housebroken, is not leash-trained, and does not like to linger outside. She is also a flight risk and very agile. She can jump out of a two- or three-foot pen. For her safety she should remain on leash even in a fenced yard, stay in a crate or fully secured space when not directly supervised, and have a crate or enclosed area with a top. The good news is that she is already crate-happy and content as long as she is near people.   Poppy is looking for a calm, patient home that will let her set the pace. Therefore, no young children is recommended - teenagers or above would be best for Poppy’s current temperament. In return, she offers a sweet, low key presence and the quiet joy of watching a shy little dog slowly decide the world is okay. I was at the county shelter in Dec of 2024 as a stray. My eye was fine at that time. With my micro-chip I went back home. In March this year the owners surrendered me with my left eye hanging out. I'm a pure breed, but that didn't stop me from being neglected, or worse. My foster rushed me to the vet to see if I was in pain. Apparently the pain came before the eye bulged out. Fast forward I've had it removed, along with a dental and I'm ready to go. I'm pretty much blind in the other eye, but that doesn't stop me from finding my way after a few days. I can even come and go outside without a problem. I'm only 6 years old so I've got lots of time for someone to take good care of me, and in return I will give them love, loyalty, and lots of good times. I'll be groomed this week (week of 4/5) so I'll be very handsome. I get along with other dogs. I crook my head when you address me which is adorable!

I set a record for being at the county shelter. I came in as a stray in April 2025, then again in August 2025, then again as a stray in March 2026, and the owners surrendered me two days later. The first thing people ask is "what's wrong with him"? There's nothing wrong with me. I'm an active 10 year old Yorkshire Terrier, pure breed too. I wasn't neutered during all those years so I could use a brush up on potty training. I do calm down, but I want to play and race around with another dog and I L.O.V.E. my food. I get along fine with other dogs at rescue. I'm pretty small at 10lbs so no small children please.

They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption.
