Butterbean is our 12-year-old Yorkie mix. This sweet boy was recently surrendered to the shelter by the only owner he’s ever known — the same person who adopted him from us as a puppy 12 years ago. Thankfully, his microchip brought him back into our care, and we were able to rescue him once again. Butterbean is as mellow and loving as they come. He did have a UTI, but he’s been on his meds and is doing much better. He’s a little “super-sized” at 18 pounds, but not overweight — just a solid little guy. He sleeps in the bed with me, knows to go outside to potty, and has only had a couple of accidents while adjusting. Butterbean does best with someone who is home quite a bit, as he forms a strong bond with his person. He will need a secure backyard, and it’s important to know that if he were to get loose, he will usually only return to the person he’s bonded with — otherwise, he may run off. For the right person, that bond is incredibly special. He still has plenty of good years ahead and so much love to give. Oreo's birthday is August 6, 2024. Unfortunately, he has consistently demonstrated aggressive resource-guarding behavior, specifically when he gets into human food. He will jump to take food and/or wrappers out of the trash can, off the dining table, out of your hand, etc. We've tried everything we can afford, and he continues to aggressively growl and bite if you try to take the human food away from him. He has bitten both my 10-year-old and me at this point. He appears to be extremely anxious (confirmed by groomer), so he needs someone patient and kind, with the ability to spend MULTIPLE hours every day with him. He seems to get along fine with other small dogs, but he growled and snapped at our neighbor's 40-50 lb. German Shepherd puppy when she tried to play with him. A small dog playmate to learn from may be just what he needs, but he definitely needs a home with NO CHILDREN. We have too many children in and out of our home every day to keep him here and keep them safe.

Story

Charlie is a good easy dog however he does require attention. If he’s not given that attention that he will relieve himself inside the home. He is crate trained however he does bark at the smallest of outside noises or perceived intrusions (Amazon deliveries). He needs to go on walks and is typically high energy. He requires attention and will do very well with an owner/family that can give him that. I do not think he does well in a home that has other dogs. I think that was our downfall with Charlie.

🩷 ADOPT CORALINE 🩷 This beautiful little princess is a special girl and she needs a family! Coraline’s about 7 months old and 10 pounds. She’s a Yorkshire Terrier and sweet as can be! Coraline needs to have heart surgery in July, we can take her down to Houston when it’s time but until then she needs to either be an only dog or in a home with lazy dogs who don’t like to play more than a couple minutes. She hasn’t been spayed yet, she’ll have that done with her surgery. She’ll need to stay in the hospital for a few days, maybe a week, when she goes. Coraline recently had her vaccines and a fresh haircut! She’ll stay under the rescue until she has her surgery, she’s also on a liquid medication for her heart, Friends United in Rescue will cover those meds and her surgery, with the help of our lovely community.
