Poppi’s elderly owners both passed away. Their caretaker had agreed with his owner to care for Poppi until he passed, but she gave him up instead. Poppi enjoys long walks despite being a senior. He just wants to be with his humans, but also loves his foster sister Sophie, a rambunctious pup. He knows the resident kitty is about his size so he just leaves her be. Poppi is housetraind and enjoys hanging out in his crate if the door is left open. He came to us with very bad teeth and required a major dental. Now that is healing, he is a lot happier. Current Location: Midlothian, VA Hello! My name is Jester! I arrived to OPH on 12/5. I'm a Dorkie, Yorkie and Dachshund (per the Mississippi shelter I came from). My foster mom loves me and knows whoever adopts me will have hit the jackpot. I'm a sweet little bundle of joy with the cutest personality! Did you see my videos? I do that little dance anytime I get excited or happy to see you! I love other dogs, even big ones and cats too. Most of all, I love people! I love to sit in your lap, cuddle on the sofa or run errands with you in the car. I'm brave for a little one! I don't mind going out in the cold, rain or snow to go potty (if you come with me). Foster mom says I'm making excellent progress on potty training. I know when we go outside, it's time to do my business. When foster mom leaves for a long time she puts pee pads down for me. Foster mom says for a puppy I'm pretty moderate to low energy and don't bark much. I'm searching for.. * someone who won't leave me home alone for more than 4 hrs, at least not until I am older. The older I am the more I can stay home alone. I just don't want you to get mad at me if I have accidents or chew things I'm not supposed to when you leave me for too long. I'm a puppy, so I get bored quick and when I'm bored I could get in trouble. * I am looking for my forever home, not my for right now home. So as I get bigger I need someone to teach me how to be the best dog I can be. I am young and still learning. You may want to teach me some new tricks like sit, stay, etc. Professional training will help me bond with you. That sounds like fun! * I saved the most important for last. Meet Lily! We think she looks like a mini Chewbacca, but cuter! This sweet girl was sadly left behind when her owners moved and was found wandering the neighborhood. Thankfully, a kind neighbor took her in and helped her find her way to our rescue. Lily made an easy transition to her foster home, which includes her foster mom, Debbie, her teen son, two dogs, and a cat. She blended right in. She enjoys the company of her pup friends and was curious but respectful with the cat. Lily looks to her humans for comfort and security, so we think she’d do just fine as an only dog, too. Debbie describes Lily as easygoing, affectionate, and a total snuggle bug. Once she feels comfortable, she’s confident in the home, though she can be a little cautious with new visitors at first. She might bark and keep her distance, but soon she’s happy to curl up quietly on the couch next to her foster mom while the guest is there. Lily has a moderate to mellow energy level. She loves her walks and can keep up with her bigger pack members, though she’s just as happy to relax by your side. She’s not shown much interest in toys yet, but will play if you engage her. She’s crate-trained, housetrained, and thrives on a consistent routine. Her foster mom does crate her when she leaves the home for long periods of time, but she's done fine not being crated for shorter periods of time.
