Story
Meet Titan! Titan is the sweetest Yorkie gentleman with eyelashes that will melt any heart and manners better than most people on their best behavior. Because his humans are military and being stationed in Asia, he landed at Miri's Haven with one goal: to find a family who will adore for him as much as they have. Titan has been deeply loved and well cared for, and it shows. Titan is affectionate, happy, loving, patient, and smart. He loves treats, being close to his person, and being showered with love and attention. When he's excited, he spins in circles of joy, and should you be momentarily distracted from adoring him, he'll paw at you in the cutest way to get your attention back on him. Titan is looking for a forever family where he will be loved like the little king he is. He wants to be included in daily activities, given endless snuggles and attention, and taken for lots of walks and fun adventures. He would thrive the most in a home that is generally calm and quiet, has a fenced yard, and can provide him with structure and a regular routine. In return, he promises to alert everyone promptly whenever someone is at the door. Titan is mostly housebroken (he uses pee pads indoors), a great passenger in the car, and sleeps through the night (his preference is in bed snuggled up with his people). He's great on the leash, great with kids and other dogs, and doesn't mind staying home alone when his humans have to pop out - though he would love his humans to be home most of the time. Because Titan has Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE), he needs a forever home with a family who understands his medical needs and is committed to providing the care and attention he deserves. PLE is a condition where the body loses protein through the gastrointestinal tract, and while serious, dogs like Titan can live full, rich lives as long they receive consistent treatment and monitoring. Titan currently eats a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet to help his body absorb nutrients and takes daily medications, including cyclosporine to reduce immune-mediated inflammation and prednisone to help control his condition. He feels great day to day and has improved significantly since starting treatment. His adopter will need to commit to continuing his medications and special diet long-term, and ensuring he receives regular veterinary care and monitoring from an internal medicine specialist. Titan needs a family who will treasure him again and help him live his best life. In return, he will give more love, snuggles, and joy than you can even imagine. Titan is approximately 10 years old and 7 lbs. Fostered in Bristow, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Douglas, aka Dougie! This tenderhearted gentleman is a heartbreaker in the making. Dougie was loved dearly by his devoted human for 13 years. Sadly, his person recently moved into a nursing home and Dougie couldn't go with. He is now looking for his own equivalent - a place where he can spend his golden years being loved and cared for. The change was hard for Dougie at first - he spent his first few weeks in foster in self-imposed solitude, mostly napping or staring wistfully into space (a true philosopher of the canine world). But Dougie has come so far from his early days of quiet, contemplative solitude - now he greets his foster mom with slow tail wags, gentle asks for head scritches, and takes brave little adventures around the house. His very favorite thing? Sunbathing in the yard and checking in on Mr. Bunny (a statue, but a reliable friend). Dougie is a professional napper, wonderfully quiet, and never gets into trouble. He gets along just fine with other dogs (mostly by politely ignoring them), but truthfully? He thinks he’d really shine as the one-and-only king of his castle, soaking up all the love and attention from his person. Dougie's hearing and vision aren’t great, so every touch still surprises him a bit. He's looking for a quiet, patient, gentle, adults-only home with humans who will take it slow with him, letting him acclimate at his own pace while cheering him on as he makes progress becoming more active and outgoing. An independent man, Dougie is not big on snuggling right now - this may or may not change as he gets more comfortable. A fenced-in yard is a must for this sun worshipper - he's not leash-trained nor is he looking to be. He'll need to be carried up and down steps and would do best in a home where his humans are around most or all of the day to let him out for frequent yard excursions and sniffaris. He is basically housebroken but benefits from having pee pads available just in case. He generally sleeps through the night and is fine staying home alone if his people need to step out for errands. Dougie's got his paws crossed that someone out there is looking for a calm, gentle companion to share naps, quiet moments, and unconditional love with ~ because that someone surely must be looking for Dougie, too. Douglas is approximately 13 years old and 6 lbs. Fostered in Gaithersburg,MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Ashton and his sister Lacey! These two little souls have been through so much, but never once let it dim their spirits. Ashton and Lacey had a loving home until their owner's health declined. Suddenly the rug was pulled out from under them and they found themselves in an overwhelming shelter with no idea what happened to the life they'd always known. Fortunately, Miri's pulled them and they have settled right in to their foster home. Ashton and Lacey may be the most laid back, loving, and cuddliest dogs you'll ever meet. Ashton is your loyal sidekick - always ready to tag along for errands, work days, and helping with chores (moral support included). Lacey is your cozy companion - naps, snuggles, and Netflix marathons are her love language. They adore going on stroller safaris where they can take in all the exciting sights, sounds, and smells without even lifting a paw. They are also leash trained and enjoy exploring the yard at their own (leisurely) pace. When they're not cruising the neighborhood in their wheels, these two LOVE snoozing. Naps during the day, deep slumbers at night - and their favorite way to sleep is snuggled up with their human(s). Lacey especially loves to sleep in, so if you're not an early riser either, she's your girl. She also loves being tucked in under a blanket while snoozing on the couch, and smiles the cutest little smile when she's feeling content. Ashton and Lacey both get along well with other dogs, ride well in the car, and are happy staying home alone while their humans are out. They are looking for a family who will be home with them most of the time, loves snuggling and stroller walks, and has a fenced in yard. They can navigate steps but sometimes need help, so they hope their forever home won't have too many. Ashton has chronic dry eye which is easy to manage with eye ointment. He's been drinking lots of water and peeing often since he arrived, so we're working with our vets to determine the cause. In the meantime, he's taking thyroid medication and is happy to rock belly bands given how often he needs to go. Lacey is fully housetrained and a huge foodie who loves mealtime and snacktime and treat time. A huge Swiftie, she’s tracking the countdown to Taylor’s next album and has claimed her favorite bed as her listening throne until October 3rd arrives. Cozy, sweet, and completely unbothered. Ashton and Lacey never miss a meal, never miss a cuddle, and never miss a chance to remind us how resilient dogs truly are. Until their forever family finds them, we’ll keep soaking up their company…walks, naps, conversations, and all. Ashton and Lacey are totally chill go-with-the-flow types. They just want to be near you (and each other), get lots of snuggles, and have a steady stream of delicious snacks. These two are gems, and they deserve the kind of love that shines right back at them. Ashton and Lacey are both approximately 10 years old and 10 lbs. Fostered in Ashburn, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.com

Story
Fluffy ears, long legs, and a mischievous sparkle in her eye — that’s Layla! This slip of a girl is pure joy wrapped in fur. She’s about 12 pounds of sweetness and sass, a 1½-year-old Yorkie mix who lives to play tug-of-war and chase with her dog friends (she follows them everywhere — what a little flirt!). Layla is a wonderful travel companion and rides beautifully in the car. She enjoys her walks, prances nicely on leash, and can’t resist trying to chase the occasional bird. At home, she’s equally content curled up in your lap or tucked beside you while you work or unwind with a show. At night, she sleeps soundly in her crate like the good girl she is. She’s also starting to learn her commands — “sit” is coming along nicely! Layla is ready to bring her playful heart, soft snuggles, and a little sparkle of mischief to a home that will adore her as much as she’ll adore you. Layla is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. Story
Wasabi — The Spicy Little Emperor 🌶️👑 If ever a dog lived up to his name, it’s this one. Wasabi is a 10-year-old, 11-pound Yorkie with just the right mix of fire and finesse. A former stray who strutted into the shelter and immediately made his opinions known, this pint-sized dynamo believes he’s earned the right to call the shots. He’s seeking a peaceful kingdom where he can reign as the one and only pet — ideally with a soft lap to preside over or a sunbeam to claim as his throne. Grooming sessions? He adores them. Sharing attention? Not so much. Moody? Occasionally. Charming? Absolutely. Fully house-trained and perfectly content to enjoy his own company, Wasabi is that rare little character who’s both independent and endearingly particular. After all, at his age, he knows exactly what he likes — and he’s not shy about letting you know! Wasabi is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $250 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care.
