Meet Bebe! If you appreciate honesty, independence, and a dog who knows exactly who she is, Bebe might be your girl. Bebe is a strong, independent woman. She doesn’t enjoy a lot of doting, but she will occasionally offer gentle kisses when she feels like it. She can’t see a lick, yet confidently toddles through her spaces, rotating between strategically placed donut beds (one per room is her recommendation; she does not believe in crating and has issued a formal policy against it). She navigates her foster home without any trouble, but would do best in a blind-savvy household without small children. Otherwise she’s a very chill little bug ~ cozy, well-fed, and content. The vet suspects the bald strip along her spine came from long periods in the same clothing or harnesses. She has discovered that at Miri’s your skin gets to breathe, and you get a nice clean outfit every morning! Sometimes a lovely outfit is medically necessary for moral. And she prefers to sleep in a bed right next to yours so you can reach down and pet her at bedtime. (Best if she doesn't sleep in bed with you, as she could fall off the edge.) Bebe came to Miri's with a plethora of medical issues, and we've been helping her fight them one by one. She had anemia, elevated kidney values, a high white blood cell count, an enlarged heart indicating heart disease, a collapsing trachea, dry eyes, mature cataracts that left her blind, limited hearing, and severe dental disease. She's now doing fabulously on a renal diet with supplements, multiple medications to address infections and coughing, and twice daily eye drops. Bebe does her business outside just fine, though it’s best to keep a diaper on her overnight and first thing in the morning - she’s small and simply can’t hold it that long. She’s also a “sometimes poo happens” kind of girl, so if that’s a dealbreaker, she may not be the right fit. Around here we expect that sort of thing, so she’s in very good company. If you are someone who enjoys cooking, this is a bonus, as she enjoys hanging around the kitchen and soaking in the smells. This is one of her greatest pleasures! Just be sure not to step on her as she tries her best to get underfoot. Bebe enjoys walks and exploring back yards. She will need to be carried up/down any stairs, and gates may be needed to keep her from wandering too much around the house. She would do best in a calm home with another dog, people that are home a fair amount to supervise her and give her regular potty breaks. Bebe is finally ready to start her next chapter and believes fully that it will be her best yet. Could it be with you? Bebe is approximately 12 years old and 6 lbs. Story
Meet Corretta! Despite how she looks on the outside, this girl is full of love and absolutely thriving. She is gentle, affectionate, and overflowing with love, as if her past never taught her to harden her heart. This is Corretta. She’s 9 lbs of quiet resilience wrapped in tender skin that is still healing after she was surrendered to a shelter and placed on the euthanasia list. Her medical needs had grown “too complex.” Her skin was inflamed and infected, wounds untreated across her face and head. Cataracts clouded her eyes. Conjunctivitis burned at the corners and one lone tooth remained. On paper, she looked like too much. In person, she is not too much. She is luminous. When she arrived, her foster mom braced for fragility… for the slow shuffle of a dog who had been uncomfortable for a long time. Instead, the door opened and Corretta ran in with purpose. She ran around the yard, back inside, up AND down the stairs in a perfect zoomie. A small victory lap from a body that finally felt relief. Corretta does not dwell in what hurt her. She lives squarely in what feels good. The healing blend of medications, specialized food, and careful topical therapy meant to calm months {likely years} of inflammation is already working wonders. Now that she’s feeling good, Corretta spends her days jumping around, climbing into bed with the rest of the crew, and seeking out attention with glee at every opportunity. She wants to be wherever the love is - preferably pressed right up against it. Corretta's manners are impeccable. She’s pottytrained and will stand politely at the back door and wait. She refuses pee pads outright, and she coexists beautifully with other dogs. With children, she is gentle, measured and kind. She is still getting the hang of leash-walking, but she's a pro at riding in the car. While she doesn't mind staying home alone, when her people come back this otherwise composed little lady throws a full celebration complete with zoomies, tippy taps, and a bright, open-mouthed grin. It’s not frantic attachment - it’s pure, uncomplicated joy that they have returned. Corretta's skin is still healing. She will always need thoughtful care, special food and continued dermatology management. She needs a love that understands maintenance is not a burden ~ it’s devotion. If you are waiting for a dog who will give back more than she requires…it’s her. Neglect may have marked her body, but it never reached her heart. The right person is going to meet her and understand immediately: she is not a project. She is a privilege. If that person is you, apply today to meet her! Corretta is approximately 9 years old and 9 lbs. Fostered in Woodbridge, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Lacey and her brother Ashton! These two little souls have been through so much, but never once let it dim their spirits. Lacey and Ashton had a loving home until their owner's health declined. Suddenly the rug was pulled out from under them and they found themselves in an overwhelming shelter with no idea what happened to the life they'd always known. Fortunately, Miri's pulled them and they have settled right in to their foster home. Lacey and Ashton may be the most laid back, loving, and cuddliest dogs you'll ever meet. Lacey is your cozy companion - naps, snuggles, and Netflix marathons are her love language. Ashton is your loyal sidekick - always ready to tag along for errands, work days, and helping with chores (moral support included). They adore going on stroller safaris where they can take in all the exciting sights, sounds, and smells without even lifting a paw. They are also leash trained and enjoy exploring the yard at their own (leisurely) pace. When they're not cruising the neighborhood in their wheels, these two LOVE snoozing. Naps during the day, deep slumbers at night - and their favorite way to sleep is snuggled up with their human(s). Lacey especially loves to sleep in, so if you're not an early riser either, she's your girl. She also loves being tucked in under a blanket while snoozing on the couch, and smiles the cutest little smile when she's feeling content. Lacey and Ashton both get along well with other dogs, ride well in the car, and are happy staying home alone while their humans are out. They are looking for a family who will be home with them most of the time, loves snuggling and stroller walks, and has a fenced in yard. They can navigate steps but sometimes need help, so they hope their forever home won't have too many. Ashton has chronic dry eye which is easy to manage with eye ointment. He's been drinking lots of water and peeing often since he arrived, so we're working with our vets to determine the cause. In the meantime, he's taking thyroid medication and is happy to rock belly bands given how often he needs to go. Lacey is fully housetrained and a huge foodie who loves mealtime and snacktime and treat time. A huge Swiftie, she’s tracking the countdown to Taylor’s next album and has claimed her favorite bed as her listening throne until October 3rd arrives. Cozy, sweet, and completely unbothered. Lacey and Ashton never miss a meal, never miss a cuddle, and never miss a chance to remind us how resilient dogs truly are. Until their forever family finds them, we’ll keep soaking up their company…walks, naps, conversations, and all. Lacey and Ashton are totally chill go-with-the-flow types. They just want to be near you (and each other), get lots of snuggles, and have a steady stream of delicious snacks. These two are gems, and they deserve the kind of love that shines right back at them. Ashton and Lacey are both approximately 10 years old and 10 lbs. Wasabi — The Spicy Little Emperor 🌶️👑 If ever a dog lived up to his name, it’s this one. Wasabi is a 10-year-old, 11-pound Yorkie with just the right mix of fire and finesse. A former stray who strutted into the shelter and immediately made his opinions known, this pint-sized dynamo believes he’s earned the right to call the shots. He’s seeking a peaceful kingdom where he can reign as the one and only pet — ideally with a soft lap to preside over or a sunbeam to claim as his throne. Grooming sessions? He adores them. Sharing attention? Not so much. Moody? Occasionally. Charming? Absolutely. Fully house-trained and perfectly content to enjoy his own company, Wasabi is that rare little character who’s both independent and endearingly particular. After all, at his age, he knows exactly what he likes — and he’s not shy about letting you know! Wasabi is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $250 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Thank you for your interest in a Home At Last Sanctuary, Inc. animal.  STOP!!! READ!! The ENTIRE DESCRIPTION before you inquire. We have received Newton’s DNA and health report.  CLICK HERE for   NewtonDogFactReport.   Good with Dogs , Is Not Good with Kids , Good with Adults , Somewhat vocal , Does Good in the Car , Requires a yard , Leash-trained , Crate-trained , Likes to play with toys , Likes to be in your lap , Playful , Affectionate , Eager To Please , Intelligent REQUIRES A GOOD SIZE FENCED IN YARD ADEQUATE TO CONFINE HIM.   We estimate Newton almost four years old.  He is 25 pounds, neutered, up-to-date in vaccinations.  We do not know much about his past before he was picked up as a stray dog by Baltimore County shelter.  He was extremely and painfully matted, not neutered, and had an amical hernia.  It was necessary to shave his matting off under sedation so this was done when he was neutered and had his amical hernia repaired.  In the shelter he was very scared and still had not forgotten the pain he suffered from his matted coat.  His coat requires regular grooming to prevent getting matted again.  He was extremely fearful of grooming but with a gentle hand he is fine now.  We have been working with him in his foster home and he is getting better.  He will require a family that understands his past trauma and has experience with dogs to help him fully recover.  Newton would like to have a home with a yard where he can spend some time running around.    Newton would not do well in apartment/Condo life.  He needs to have a house with a yard. He seems to be energetic and active and a bit mouthy so he would not do well with young children. Newton is an active, happy, playful dog that gets along well with his new foster brothers.  He is an amazingly affectionate dog. He seems to want to and will climb into your lap to be close to you.  He like to be in touch with his people either on the lap, next to and touching on the couch, and very close in bed at night with his warm body. We had an animal communicator do a reading on Newton.  What we think from this encounter that Newton is missing his family.  We think something happened to his owner and a caregiver may have let Newton go astray.  His condition would indicate that he was long overdue for required grooming.    WHEN AN APPLICATION TO ADOPT IS APPROVED WE BRING NEWTON TO THE HOME VISIT AND MEET AND GREET, AND IF ANOTHER ANIMAL A SNIFF TEST.  WE DO NOT PLACE DOGS ON THIS VISIT. WE RETURN IF THERE WILL BE AN ADOPTION WHEN EVERYONE IS PREPARED TO ADOPT.  WE ONLY TRAVEL UP TO A ONE HOUR DRIVE FROM ROCKVILLE MD TO PLACE ANIMALS.
