Story
Hi! My name is Duke and I am available for adoption.I was brought in by a good Samaritan on 01/30/24I weigh 76.0 lbs and am considered a `large breed` dog.I am a very smart dog! At the shelter I am practicing how to `sit` and `come`I am an independent dog who likes to do my own thing! I am full of energy and I love to play! I tend to calm down more when the people around me stay calm. I do best when I have lots of exercise and something to keep my mind busy. I walk pretty well on leash, and respond appropriately to gentle corrections. My personality color is RED. I am an adaptable dog with a fun-loving personality! I am still working on my manners, so I would do best with a family who is willing to work with me and help me become the best dog I can be!I`m a Playgroup Pal! Ask the staff today about my interactions with other dogs at the shelter in our Playgroups. My caregivers have observed that I might not get along with other dogs unless properly matched with the right dog. I may do best as the only dog in my new home, or I will need a very slow introduction to other dogs with lots of positive experiences.I have been known to resource guard, meaning that I am displaying behavior that is intended to convince other dogs or humans to stay away from a particular treasure or `resource.` The resource that I tend to guard is food/treats. If you take me home you will benefit from in home guidance to help to manage and improve this behavior. Thankfully there are various ways that I can get the help I need to make me the best doggo that I can be.***April showers bring May flowers - and a lot of dogs at Regional Animal Services! Through May 31, you can `Pick Your Price` when you adopt an adult dog (six months or older). Adoption fees are $25, $50, $75, or $100, plus a pet license fee if applicable.***

Story
From the Foster Home: Brave was a joy to foster! This sweet girl has been through so much, yet gained so much confidence day after day. She's curious and stops to watch people in the neighborhood and wants to approach them. I found her easy to be walked by waddling, quacking ducks, barking dogs and the neighborhood cats without a second glance. (Squirrels however, too much of a temptation ??) Brave walks pretty well on a leash; I did have to speed walk my 5'3'' frame to keep up with this tall gal's normal long legged gait! You can easily work on her paws, diapering (I had her before her spay), cleaning, etc. with some kibble in front of her. She doesn't appear to even notice! Given her size and that she is a "talker" (sometimes I swear it sounds like she's even howling words) I wouldn't recommend her for an apartment dweller or someone gone from home a lot. She would enjoy a doggie door where she has access to lie outside in the yard at will (and as long as she had open access to the outside, she didn't have accidents in the home). She likes to be around people, and she gets along well with the other neighborhood dogs we walked by. I would guess she would do fine in a home with or without dogs, as long as she has her human's love and someone sensitive to her past, needs and worries?? I also had no worries with my 2nd grader being around her; she is very gentle. Honestly if we had the stability in life to have a permanent pet at this juncture, we would probably be a foster fail with this one. She's a total sweetheart and I can't recommend her enough! The dog adoption fee is $90. They come spayed/neutered, microchipped, first set of vaccines including DAPP (parvo combo), Bordetella (kennel cough), and Strongid (wormer).
