Story
The Myth The Man The Legend. Meet Mecca. He is a Boxer/American Bulldog mix who has had some bumps in the road, but our team refuses to give up on him. Mecca is currently in a foster home and doing great. His foster family tells us that he is working hard at slimming down. He will work on the treadmill but will use any excuse to take a break and relax. He has been doing great being around other dogs while he has been `At The Gym`. Mecca lives to be around people. His foster feels that he would do well around cats, but it can not be officially confirmed. He is killing it with his basic obedience training but we have learned he will not be moving on to advanced search and rescue training because that will require too many steps and this boy isn`t about that kind of life. He would be the guy back home at base camp making sure he is checking in on everyone to make sure they are keeping their spirits up. The only searching Mecca wants to do is to search for his forever home. Please help us spread the word on this amazing fella and find him that forever home.

Story
How did this "old" girl end up in a shelter? Gretchen was an abandoned dog. When she entered the shelter they believed she was sick but quickly learned she was pregnant. She had a puppy that did not survive and then tried to have another but was taken to the vets to have it removed. That puppy did not survive either. Imagine, homeless and pregnant at eight years old. That equates to a 51 year old human. To add to the still births, she had pyometra and was symptomatic heart worm positive. So, she had been abandoned, sick, pregnant at her age, in a shelter, had an infected uterus, had surgery, was spayed, had heart worm and was being treated, went to our vets from the shelter went on a transport from NC to PA and then met with a new pack all within a short time. Decompression and pack introductions were not followed and she was ONCE AGAIN unwanted! Instead of assuming she was just a bad dog, we had her transported to our trainer Jeff Coltenback for evaluation....and, guess what, SHE'S AN AWESOME DOG that, with gentle love and caring, will fit into any home. She deserves placement with a family that will appreciate the gentle loving manner of a senior and will offer a non-chaotic household. Adoption of Gretchen comes with help from our trainer for her transition and a professional to refer to with specific questions about her. Reach out to us about our senior adoption program which allows our senior rescues the opportunity to know love and a family easily.

Story
She was dumped in a cemetery in NC. For days she never left that area- filled with hope that her person would return for her. When Diamond Dogs Rescue was told of her and how sweet she was, there was no way we could have left her to wait for someone who was never going to return. Now she's fully vetted and was picked up by her foster/trainer to learn there are better people in her life this go around. Her foster mom says, "she is sweet as honey, hence the nickname she earned the moment I met her. Her loyalty and devotion to a family that failed her is remarkable. While she is with me she will get lots of exposure and socialization, good citizen training and will learn leash walking and doggy manners to get ready for her new family". She is only 2/5-3 years old. Past the puppy issues but still full of life. Her foster family loves her and says she will make someone a perfect little companion. They call her travel sized. She loves to play with other dogs. She does play rough and sometimes does not take corrections when to quite. Her crate skills and house manners are wonderful. Working on the leash. Foster said "if we didn't have so many dogs we'd keep her" Consider this incredible girl for adoption. She's the perfect age and the perfect size and the perfect dog.

Story
Look at Otis! This happy boy has been waiting and waiting for someone to look his way. Ottie Oh is super social, plays hard and snuggles hard. Otis can be a bit possessive of his toys but will happily trade for another. He takes treats a little rough so watch those fingertips, but with that bulldog face it`s easy to understand it. He does get along with kids, but only the ones who are dog-savvy and know how to respect his boundaries. So, if you`ve got older kids in the house, I`m all for it! Just make sure they`re ready to tell me to knock it off when I need to listen.Ottis is the perfect companion dog, he can watch tv or go bouncing around the park. Give this guy a second chance at happiness. Come meet him and see if he can steal your heart away.

Story
Billy Jim Bob is a handsome brindle boy who has been through a lot and is still learning to fully trust the world. At around 2 years old and 75 pounds, he’s strong, sensitive, and by nature of his breed, loyal and affectionate. This boy is smart, food-motivated, and enjoys his chews and treats. Once he feels safe, he’ll lean into pets and even melt into a sit for some good butt scratches. He takes time to warm up to new people, but with patience and consistency, he shows his sweet and goofy side.Billy Jim Bob is not a dog for a first-time owner—he needs an experienced adopter who understands big dogs with big feelings. He can get over-aroused in the kennel and on leash, so continued training and structure will be important to set him up for success. He’ll do best as the only pet in the home, in a calm, adult-only environment where he can decompress and learn at his own pace.He may not be the easiest match, but for the right person, Billy Jim Bob will be a loyal and loving companion who just needs someone to believe in him.Adopter Recommendations:Experienced dog ownerAdult-only home (no children)Only pet in the homeWillingness to continue training and behavior supportCould you be the patient, dedicated human Billy Jim Bob has been waiting for?To complete adoption questionnaire: https://hamiltonmcnj.seamlessdocs.com/f/AdoptionApplicationTo see other available animals: https://www.hamiltonnj.com/173/Pets-Available-for-AdoptionHamilton Township Animal Shelter cannot offer any guarantees on the age, health, temperament, personality or mental disposition of any pet.
