Story
Age:6 Weight: 95 Location: Perkasie, PA Nicknames: Hondo Mondo, Da Big Bubba Good with other dogs?: Yes, Other:. Hondo is mostly, indifferent to other dogs. He will want to sniff and check another dog out in the home but will avoid a confrontational dog. Good with cats? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with a cat Good with children? OK for kids over: 10-12 Activity Preference: Will go with the flow IQ: Average Hondo's favorite things: Hondo really does like to go for walks. One or two a day would be sufficient, and he generally tops out at about 1 mile. One of his favorite things are blankets. He will play, nibble, or just cuddle up with them. Hondo is good at: staying in a crate, behaving in the house, making me feel safe, walking on a leash, cuddling, following commands Ideal home: quiet environment, a fenced yard Training Needs: socialization with people, socialization with dogs Health issues: Hondo does seem to have some seasonal allergies. But nothing extensive. Meet Hondo Hondo is a wonderfully adorable big-headed bulldog. Unfortunately, he was abused by a man and that overall has affected his trust in men. So, he definitely prefers a female human companion. Hondo needs some time to adjust to new surrounds, but once that adjustment time is over…hold on to your hats! This boy follows his foster mom around like it's his job. Hondo and his foster mom like to go for walks together, they both totally prefer the cooler weather! Once done for the night they cuddle on the couch together. Hondo knows that he's not allowed to be crazy on the couch though, otherwise he gets kicked off and has to lay on the floor. Hondo sits nicely for treats and any food you are willing to part with. He goes into a crate with ease, sometimes preferring to lay in there to chew on a bone while foster mom cooks dinner. He will let you know that he has to go outside, sometimes a little too much. He has no idea how big he is, which is why older children would be better suited. Hondo is ALL BULLDOG. Goofy, silly, stubborn, hardheaded (figuratively and literally) but most importantly, loving. PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Age:4-5 Weight: 80 Location: New Hope, PA Nicknames: <3 man Good with other dogs?: No, must live as only dog but is safe with other dogs away from home. Beef Jerky (BJ), Is such a lovely man. He greets people and other dogs like a gentleman. He is so sweet but after spending quite a few months at the shelter as a court case he doesn't like when other dogs (dogs only) come near his treats or bones. Good with cats? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with a cat Good with children? OK for kids over: 12 Activity Preference: Needs in-house activities, Up for a long hike any day., Low maintenance overall but needs quality outside time., Will go with the flow IQ: Smart Beef Jerky's favorite things: BJ loves food. He was VERY underweight when he arrived to his foster home. He loves marrow bones, bully sticks, walks, exploring with people, relaxing in a chair, being cute and soaking up love. Beef Jerky is good at: meeting people, meeting dogs, staying in a crate, behaving in the house, going for car rides, making me feel safe, walking on a leash, playing, following commands Ideal home: a fenced yard Training Needs: Health issues: none Meet Beef Jerky We love BJ. He has a sad story that is well in his past. Being used as a stud dog to make someone $$ he was kept in a crate with 16 other dogs and was confiscated when authorities were called to check out inhumane conditions. He sat in a shelter for 6 months until the court case was settled. He is now free and happy. So far we have taken 4 of the 17 dogs and would really love to be able to take in some of the dogs still at the sheltter. BJ had learned so many tricks. We work with the trained every Wednesday and he is a shining star during training. This guy lives to make you happy! PLEASE READ: Adopters will not be considered without completing an application. Story
Mardi! This adorable and sweet 3-4 yr old squishy american bulldog/boxer type mix is Mardi. Mardi has quite the story that her foster mom will try to share here. Mardi is too humble to tell it herself, and we also don't want to live in the past, however we think it is important for people to know to help understand how incredibly special, resilient and forgiving Mardi is. Mardi first came to our rescue in Feb 2024, when she ended up at a local shelter as a suspected cruelty/neglect case. She had significant infected, deep bite wounds on her neck and face, was underweight and in terrible condition. She was also snuggly and loving with a (broken) tail that wagged every time you gave her a kind word or a soft touch. Since that time she has healed physically and unless you look closely for any of the remaining scars you wouldn't know. Mardi was adopted from us about a month ago but recently returned due to some pretty unrealistic expectations her adopter had. Mardi is a one dog home kind of girl. She does not want to live with other dogs, or cats. She thinks she is all you need, and she is probably right. She will make sure if you need dog hugs, kisses or someone to pet she will be right there. Sometimes she knows it before you do. Although Mardi has done ok in public settings where other dogs are (ie at a brewery) she sometimes needs to be reminded to mind her manners and be distracted, and she does not want to interact with other dogs. Her foster mom has found her easy to manage in public settings, but would also recommend something like a reactive dog class might help an adopter learn to interrupt any barking. Mardi absolutely loves any person she has met while in our care. She is great with kids, and has been around kids 4+, although she may accidentally knock over very small ones with her love and the way she leans in to you. Although her foster mom loves Mardi very much and has only the best things to say, she does have other dogs and as such feels bad that Mardi does not get as much time and attention as she deserves, She deserves to be the center of someone's universe. Mardi is good on a leash and mostly just wants to stick near her people, but she also says she enjoys her foster mom's fully fenced in yard. She likes to hang out nearby (we often read together outside on nice days) and will gently nudge your hand with her nose so you know she is nearby, but she is also happy to go sniff and adventure in the yard and keep herself occupied. Although she thinks she can catch the bold bunnies in the yard (so far, no luck thankfully) she is a master of catching, and eating, bugs. She is just a happy girl who occupies herself. Mardi is low to medium energy and happy to hang out and be quiet when you are working, but also very happy to be invited on any adventures. She loves car rides, although I would suggest tethering her as she will try to steal your Starbucks when you aren't looking. Live and learn, foster mom. She is crate trained and housebroken and just a really nice, easy dog. We would recommend crating her when not supervised as she will counter surf looking for any goodies. It is a good incentive to keep a really clean kitchen and bare counters! She knows sit and we are working on down and wait. Mardi is fully up to date on vet care. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is up to date on preventatives and wellness. Interested? Please go to www.dogtownrescue.org to complete an online application for Mardi. An approved application and scheduled appointment are required to meet Mardi.

Story
Sweet sweet Tinka, a shy and scared gal who has won over the hearts of her volunteer friends! Tinka first showed up at the shelter as a stray, although she had identification on her indicating that she once had an owner. Unfortunately, no owner was ever tracked down. Tinka now waits for her forever home in the scary shelter but she's doing her best to be brave! She has shown she warms up with her human and dog pals. Tinka is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm. Me and Tinka had a bit of a breakthrough with each other on 10/9. I found Tinka at the back of her kennel shaking as she is so scared in there. I opened her kennel fully and sat down and Tinka came right up to me. I was able to easily leash her without a problem and she walked right out of her kennel. Tinka is so so so good on leash with minimal pulling. She really only pulls when she is nervous or scared. I was so proud of her as she has come out of her shell since I last had her out at the photoshoot. I was able to get some tail wags from her which was such a accomplishment as last time she was super nervous and stayed away for the most part. This time I was able to pet her as she came to me with her tail wagging. I even sent in a video of her having some cute zoomies! Tinka does not like going back into the shelter and is really nervous about going back in. She actually will stop walking when she knows you're going back in and try to pull back. Other volunteers had said taking her down a quieter hallway works but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I had a staff member try and double loop her with me but it was just not going well. Instead I decided to try and pick her up. She allowed me to do it with no issues and I carried her back to her kennel. Per Staff 10/9/24: Volunteer noted that she would not walk back to kennel, but allowed the volunteer to be picked up and placed back in kennel Per 10/7/24: Tinka definitely has the stubbornness of a bulldog. When coming back inside from a dog meet, she refused to walk in the direction I wanted to go, so we went back in a different entrance and walked alright through the lobby and kennels. When we got to the end of her kennel row, she put the brakes on and started whipping around a bit (very slowly). I was able to get her moving with some leash pressure and she returned to the kennel itself easily. I removed my leash from over her head with no problems. When I got her out of kennel, she was trembling, but was easy to leash. Per Volunteer 10/6/24: "She is so sweet but so shy and scared. Tinka was with me for about an hour and was so good and patient! The photographers and everyone who met her absolutely fell in love with her. She was the first dog to start the photoshoot and did great! From the time that i first took her out until the end she really came out of her shell. When shes in her kennel She cowers in the back and as soon as you open it up she starts shaking, but she does allow you to leash her and once you do she gets right up to go out. When she was out with me once she found out I had treats we became friends. She let us put a costume on her with no issue and by the end that was her photoshoot. She was so patient and good while the photographers got some great shots of her. Getting her back in her kennel she was really nervous and kept trying to pull back and out so to get her in her kennel safely I asked for staffs help so she didn't hurt herself." Per Staff 10/4/24: Took Tinka for a walk without issue. She remains highly stressed, though, trembling at all points of the interaction - especially in her kennel, but also at various times during the walk and in the play yard - and displaying lots of fearful/appeasing body language (hunched posture, tucked tail, ears back, lip licking, lurking around fences exploring for exits, checking in with me on the walk and in the yard but not soliciting attention). She took a few meaty treats from me when offered but didn't seek out more. She resisted going back into her kennel but hopped in when I stepped in all the way. Per Staff 10/3/24: Tinka is such a sweet, shy girl! I initially went to Tinka's kennel so I could double check her collar for owner information (unfortunately collar has no tags or info). Tinka was fearful and trembling in the center of her kennel, curled into a ball. I dropped the divider door and Tinka came up to the kennel door. When I opened the kennel door, she moved to the back of the kennel but I was able to leash her easily with a big loop. She exited the kennel with ease and walked outside with me. Walks well on leash, minimal pulling, though a bit nervous of her surroundings. Initially in the play yard Tinka sat about 6 feet away from me, panting with ears back. After several minutes she came by and sniffed me. She then allowed me to sit on the ground next to her and pet her back gently. Becca then entered the play yard, Tinka initially watched Becca from across the run but then came up to her to sniff and allowed all handling from Becca including back, belly, legs, feet, ears. She seemed a little sensitive of her hind end, possibly due to some skin irritation and fleas in that area. Tinka also met another low-energy female dog named Lovely, and the two did extremely well together! Their personalities seem to be a good match, as they are both on the shy side but greeted each other nicely and were content to just hang out together. Per Staff 10/3/24: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Tinka KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Tinka was scared in the front of her kennel and ran away from the handler so the handler closed the divider and went to the other side. She was then nervous but easy to leash and came right out but tried to run away from the handler. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally - fearful and walks very slowly HANDLING: Once outside for her eval Tinka was very nervous but solicited for comfort and attention. She was tolerant of all touch but was a little sensitive on the top of her butt area due to flea bites and old scarring. She did some cute tail wags and open mouth smiles for a baby voice and pats and warmed up alot overtime while the handler just sat there with her. She is a very observant dog and likes to sit there, cuddle and people watch. She solicited for some more pets and cuddles but prefers to come up to you rather than you directly going up to her. She loves to sit next to you and leans into your legs. PLAY No interest TOYS: No interest Per Staff 10/3/24: Very tense in kennel and growling. Hi my name is Tuco!! I know I may look a little intimidating but I’m the sweetest most laid back boy you will meet! I’m not the most energetic dog, I would rather sit and lay on the couch and watch a movie. But if you want to play tug of war I would love that too. I’m up to date on all shots and vaccines. I’m looking for an owner that is looking for a loyal companion!
