Hello there, I'm Moses. My life was going fine until I was surrendered to a high kill shelter in WV due to my owner becoming homeless. He loved me so much he didn't want me to be out in the heat. Although I'm a Bulldog/Pit mix, big boy at 75#, I'm a gentle soul and was afraid with all the commotion of shelter life. Sadly, shelters are all struggling placing pups and more needing to move in. I was placed on the euthanizing list due to space needs. My luck did change and I was scooped up by Molly's Place and hitched a ride to Mechanicsburg!!! Known to the shelter staff for being a GREAT people dog, I'm also good with other dogs and maybe even cats (can be cat tested). Being very calm well mannered boy, I jump right into a car when told, ride very well just taking in the sites and don't even nose up the windows! I'm said to be house broken, used to going to dog parks and walk well on a leash knowing basic commands and loving to play fetch. Oh yes, I'm also a "Lap Doggie"! Not sure what other good doggie traits you would want, think I check all the boxes! I'm ready and willing to become your next best friend, car buddy and "Lap warmer" as the cold winter nights are coming. Are you ready to take that step and adopt me? I surely hope so! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Chance came to us after sitting/laying on a concrete kennel floor with a "breeder" who didn't know what to do with a puppy that couldn't use his back legs :( We were contacted and although we typically do not take large dogs we felt the need to help. We had him with 2 different vets both saying he would never walk again, even our medical director did not hold out any hope. We just knew we had to try so the Director started researching and working on his back legs and then we started using a cold laser wand and a wheel chair and within months Chance went from the chair to what we called "wonky walking" and now he races around the field!!! Chance is a typical bulldog doing what he wants and he is big so making him do anything is definitely not easy LOL. He has learned the hand signal for sit and he will do it on command because he knows he gets a treat :) He is good with most dogs but we have found he is not fond of shihtzu's. At the ranch he lives with cats coming in and out and has no interest in them. Now if they gave him a hard time I'm pretty sure it would be game on! Chance may as he gets old need to revert back to a cart so we are looking for a home with either no stairs or only 1 or 2. I do not suggest Chance for small children he is WAY to rambuncious and for some reason very fixated on them. We have no idea how she ended up there, but her body shows evidence of unkind treatment - sores and wounds on her body, and limbs that don't look or function the way they should. We are so happy to have her safe in foster care so we can find her the best forever family! Meatball is estimated to be 6 years old, weighs 35 lbs, and is a bully mix. As is typical with her breed, she has some ongoing orthopedic concerns her future family will need to be prepared for. Meatball has arthritis and hip dysplasia. Because her knees are also weak, surgery is not recommended. She takes daily joint supplements (Dasuquin) and should continue through the rest of her life! Behavior wise, Meatball is a typical bully combo of fun, energy, spunk, and love! She has lived with tolerant, social dogs and does well after an initial decompression period. Meatball is sensitive to changes and thrives in routine, so transitions can cause her to become more anxious which leads to guarding behavior of her crate. The good news is this behavior completely goes away once she’s settled and comfortable, and her fosters and trainer have a routine that sets her up for success with transitions! Once she’s settled in, Meatball is a little tank of pure love. She enjoys playing with her doggie foster sister, napping throughout the day, and cuddling with her humans. She’s on the lower energy side but enjoys walks from her cart and brief playtime in the yard. Meatball will thrive with a family who can continue her training and provide her with some basic structure and routine.
