It was the middle of January and it was very cold. She came in very underweight and scared. After some good food and care she became healthy, and is now ready for a forever home. Meet Mabel (a.k.a., Tankerbell), a 5-year-old English bulldog, weighing in at 46 pounds. This solid lady was surrendered by a commercial breeder after spending years breeding. Mabel is confident, affable, affectionate and not vocal in the slightest. She has been tested with children 10 & over, cats, and other dogs of various sizes. Mabel gets the occasional zoomies, which is akin to a cannonball racing about, but mostly enjoys napping and begging for food. Mabel has zero interest in other dogs and cats. Her primary requirements are people to fawn over her, especially of the middle-aged male variety, and food. She enjoys Milk Bones and the occasional roasted beef bone and doesn't care one bit about other dog toys. Mabel has mastered going up and down stairs in a split-level house. Mabel is fine on car rides, in fact so much so she really enjoys hanging out in the car in the garage. She likes her cage and sleeps soundly in it at night. She used to have an earth-shattering snore, but with surgery and tonsil removal, she's much, much quieter. Mabel is potty trained, but regression is common. Mabel is being fostered near Valley Forge National Park, so her adoptive family will need to travel there for a meet-and-greet. Mabel is UTD on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, spayeded, and has been on flea/tick/heartworm prevention since coming into the rescue. Meet Bruno! This delicious ham sandwich is a 2 year old, approx 55lb English Bulldog that came to us by way of ACCT Philly in early August. Found as a stray dragging his leash, no one ever came to claim him. Bruno had a gnarly skin infection and came down with the ACCT URI. He's since recovered from both and ready to find his people. Bruno is a super sweet, happy go lucky guy who listens well for the most part. He loves other dogs and he's GREAT at entertaining himself. Give him a ball or a nylabone and he's good for hours! He knows basic commands, has wonderful recall, is crate trained and housebroken. He's dog friendly but can be humpy in the beginning. No little dogs for him as he is blissfully unaware of his size and strength. He's a silly goof who likes to throw himself around - bowling over everything in his path. With all of that said, Bruno does need an experienced adopter. Someone who will continue to work with him on boundaries. Bruno is a great little boy until he's not. He needs a family who understands how to redirect him when he's being naughty (ie being a bulldog). He can be inappropriately mouthy at times but NOT aggressive. For this reason, we're suggesting an adult only home or one with kids 12 and older. Bruno spent time with one of our trainers and he did very well. He has finally learned "drop it and has generally slowed down a lot. Overall he has learned to make better choices or maybe just has better instincts now (?). (Thanks, Jess!) Meet our local celebrity, Dora the Explorer! Dora is around 3 years old and she weighs around 58 lbs. Dora was spotted for over 1 year traveling a wide area and numerous concerned citizens became concerned that Dora had lost her way and her family. A group of volunteers made it their mission to rescue Dora. After being caught it was evident that at some point she had a family that loved her because she knew many commands and was proving to be a very intelligent girl. Dora is very playful. She bonds to her humans very quickly and would just love to be a couch potato when she is not out in the yard entertaining herself or having fun playing fetch. Her foster family has several older dogs and Dora seems fine with them, however, Dora would do great as well, as a single dog family because she loves her people! Any questions about her can be answered by her foster mom and we can put you in touch with her. Dora is ready to travel when the perfect home is found for her. ~Adoptable Bella~ Bella is a 3 year old girl who loves to play ball and spend time with her favorite people. She spent over a year in the shelter before we stepped up to rescue her. Because of the time spent in the shelter as well as her unknown past, she came into rescue as a 60-pound bouncy girl without any manners or training. Bella spent a month with a professional trainer and has been with her foster working hard on the skills learned. She can be excitable and greets new people with a loud, deep bark which can be intimidating to some. Bella has made so much progress while in rescue, but needs an adopter who is committed to continuing her training with leash walking and appropriately greeting new people. Bella does fine with other dogs when properly introduced slowly, but needs someone who will give her time to settle in and slowly acclimate to her new surroundings. Bella is looking for a patient, consistent adopter who will help her continue to build confidence and continue her training. She is very food motivated and will do almost anything for a treat. She has a lot of love to give and we are really hoping to find her a forever home soon! It may be easy for some to pass Bella by because she needs continued training and slower introductions, but if you give Bella a true, fair chance, you’ll find she would love nothing more than to be your best little buddy who is very eager to please.
