Story
We adopted Pinto (formerly Stanley) from the Brandywine Valley SPCA in 2022. He was born on 08/02/2022. He is a mixed breed, mostly white dog who is deaf. He loves to play, chew on sticks, and be outdoors. He gets along well with our other dog. He does not seem bothered by cats but ours do not do well with him. He does well walking on a leash and enjoys going for long walks at parks. He does have a microchip and has been neutered. He is up to date on shots. He eats dry food and enjoys chewing on bones. He has not had any training by us. Pinto is a very sweet dog who needs a space to run and play. He loves attention. We will provide new owner with any paperwork we have on him as well as any supplies/food we have, including a crate.

Story
Graham is a very sweet and playful dog! He is one of our longest residents as he has been here since September of 2022! We took him on from another rescue, so he has not known much of the comforts of a home. He enjoys walks outside, playing with toys, and sleeping in crazy positions. He loves attention from anyone and everyone. He just wants to be loved. In his ideal home he would be the only pet as he loves all the attention to himself. He would do well with kids 10+ as he doesn’t know that he is a little to large to be a lap do. He would do best in a home with an active owner. His adoption fee is covered by an amazing sponsr. Please fill out an application to meet Graham!

Story
ABOUT DAMIEN Interested in a fur baby rather than a human baby? Meet Damien, the crazy, silly, and fun boy who’s always ready for an adventure! Damien was surrendered to HAP when his owner could no longer care for him, but he’s kept his joyful spirit and playful energy. He’s previously lived with cats and other dogs, making him a well-rounded, social guy fur friends. However, he would prefer a home without children, as they are just too fast-paced and loud for him. Despite his dislike for kids, Damien is a total mush for all adults and eager to make some grown-up friends. He LOVES to play fetch and can keep going for as long as you’re willing to throw the ball, so he’s looking for a family that can match his active lifestyle! He knows basic commands and is eager to learn more. Damien has had a blast participating in our Doggy Day Out program, where he’s made lots of new friends during his outings. Here’s what our volunteers have to say about their day with him: “We started our day by walking in Carousel park. Damien was very interested horses, ducks, and other dogs. While we kept a good distance, he was very content just sitting and watching. We headed to Marshall’s where he got a ton of attention from staff and shoppers. He picked out his toy and treats, before we headed home where we snuggled on couch and he took a nap. He is the cutest, when I sat on the couch, he made himself right at home and laid on top of me. This boy LOVES to cuddle! I hope Damien finds a home soon!” - Gabriella “Today we took out Damien again! He is the sweetest and most friendly dog. We went to the UD campus and walked around the Pomeroy Rail Trail, introduced him to some of our friends, and hung out on Main Street. Even with the bad weather, we had an amazing day with Damien and we love spending time with him!” - Alyssa "Damien is an absolute sweetheart. He was very energetic in the beginning when I first met him and once we got outside he was so excited to walk around and say hi to everyone. I fell in love with him in our short time together. We went for a walk around the UD campus and we had to stop at Starbucks for a pup cup. He was very good on the leash and got excited for all of the new smells. He would be a great fit for a family that likes to go on walks and is very active. I had a great day with him and hope to get him again for my next doggy day out. Miss him already!!!" - Melissa If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT JACKSON Jackson is a 2-year-old active boy, affectionately known as “Jaxy” by the staff and volunteers. This handsome pup came to HAP after his previous owner could no longer care for him. Understandably, after being surrendered, he is sometimes unsure who to trust and may take some time to warm up. Once he's comfortable, Jaxy is a sweet and loving boy who adores his people! He enjoys being outdoors and loves running around our barnyard, taking in all the exciting sights and smells. He’s very treat-motivated, loves back scratches, and has a blast rolling around with his toys. Jaxy already knows “sit” and “paw,” and he’s currently learning good leash manners. He’s looking for a family who can give him the love, attention, and care he’s been missing, and deserves! *Jackson is seeking a home as your only pet! Meet Lucy Lou! Lucy Lou is a 7-year-old, 65-pound bundle of love who’s ready for her second chance. She came to us when her family could no longer care for her, but she hasn’t let that dim her sweet spirit. This gentle girl has lived happily with kids, cats, and other dogs — and gets along with everyone she meets. She’s housebroken, crate trained, and walks beautifully on a leash. Lucy Lou is past the puppy phase, which means she’s calm, well-mannered, and just wants to be near her people. Whether it’s relaxing by your side or going for a stroll, she’s up for anything as long as she’s with you. June 3, 2025, 9:19 am
