Story
Violet is a very playful, energetic, and sweet girl. She is one year old. She loves being around people. Loves playing with her soccer ball and squeaky toy. She does require additional training on socialization and reactivity towards other animals, as well as leash training. She loves giving hugs and kisses and knows basic commands such as sit, come, down, and wait. I just want a loving and safe home for her with an experienced owner. She will come with all of her belongings such as bedding, snacks, and toys. I’m willing to get her spayed before adoption if you’re unable to

Story
Thor is a loving family dog who is very playful and sweet. He was given to me when he was a puppy by a family friend. My current landlord is selling my property, and unfortunately, my new home doesn't allow pets. I have tried other friends and family members, but no one can take him. I just want him with someone who will love him and be kind to him because he is a really good dog. He does need his shots for this year. I had scheduled an appointment, but with having to move, I can't afford both.

Story
Meet CITY! City the Pittie may look tough, but he is as soft as ice cream on a warm summer day. And by the looks of him today, you’d never guess the hard start he had in life— first appearing in our care after being abandoned by his owners at the hospital where he arrived skinny and weak… and was eventually diagnosed with a severe bowel obstruction. Thanks to a fast and successful fundraiser he underwent emergency surgery to remove a whole dishtowel, likely eaten out of desperation. Thanks to the incredible medical team at Penn and a place to heal with his fosters, he made a full recovery. Now, this healthy 70lb boy is your friendly land hippo, spending most of his time snoozing or tracing your every step like the little shadow he is. While he’ll happily sleep the day away, he will never say no to playtime, walks, car rides or literally anything, with anyone. He is dog friendly, adult friendly and kid friendly. In fact, he loves people and pups so much, he is still working on containing his excitement. Due to his enthusiasm, we recommend kids over the age of 12 and no cats, as he is a little too eager with them. He will also need someone committed to working on his energy levels when it comes to leash reactivity. This fella doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and just needs someone who is willing to support slow and steady introductions to manage his excitement. Other than that, he is about as perfect of a beefy little potato as they come (per his long term foster and literally anyone who meets him, which is every passing stranger on the street or houseguest). He is house trained, crate trained and has excelled with his general training in a short time. He’s learned to politely wait for his food and various commands like stopping at crosswalks. Due to his food motivation, he would easily continue to thrive with ongoing training. He is all love and asks for very little. Just a soft bed to land on and your companionship. In return, you’ll get a best friend who adorns your every step…just be careful not to trip over him 😅. We would love to see City go home to a furry friend and ideally away from the hustle and bustle of the city (ironic, we know). But with the right family, this guy would truly settle at home in any home. Come meet this beautiful pup and see for yourself :) If interested please contact Christine at christine@therescueexpress.org

Meet Snowball, a big ball of energy! Although she has endured neglect in the past, this four-year-old pup is extremely fond of people - from her handlers to new acquaintances and even children. Snowball enjoys running in the yard, playing, going for walks, and receiving belly rubs. She is intelligent and loves training with her handlers in our dog training class. This clever gal takes pleasure in the company of both humans and other dogs. She is filled with a zest for life, but she also enjoys a good cuddle and nap. Like vanilla frosting, Snowball is a crowd pleaser and works well in any situation!

Story
MEET HAM! Her shelter name is actually Clarabelle but we refer to her as ‘Ham’ because it perfectly fits her fun, squishy personality and piggie body type. Ham is around 10 years old and was brought to Philly's animal control shelter as a stray, though it's suspected that the person who brought her in was her original owner. Ham was actively lactating, had bite wounds around her neck, and pressure sores on her legs. Because she was already fighting infection and then stressed in the shelter, she developed severe pneumonia and almost didn't make it back out. Luckily, her sweet little face caught her foster family’s heart, and she was swept off to the ER and a new life of safety with City of Elderly Love. She has since made a full recovery! Since coming to the rescue in December 2024, Ham has gone through quite the transformation. She has completely recovered from her stint of homelessness and had all of her medical needs addressed. Since losing some unnecessary weight and recovering physically and emotionally, Ham has blossomed into a spunky, joyful, medium-energy girl who loves to do zoomies through the house and yard just as much as she loves to curl up under a heated blanket. Ham loves to meet new people and has always been a social girl. She is not currently living with kids but we think she’d do well in a home with older kids who might not mind this little house hippo zooming by them during playtime. We can’t wait to see this squishy, hilarious girl complete one lucky family! Ham is currently in foster care on a small hobby farm with many other animals but we think she’d be happiest in a home without pets. She doesn’t love to share her space with other dogs and can be reactive to them on walks. She shows too much interest in smaller animals and may be too pushy in her approach with them. Given that Ham has likely had several litters in her younger years, it seems she’d prefer to spend her golden years being the sole center of attention, which is fine! Ham’s ideal home would be outside the hustle and bustle of the city where she can lounge in the sun in her own yard and take leisurely strolls through the park. Ham has an old torn CCL in her knee which healed on its own at some point but causes a bit of arthritis now but it doesn’t slow her down in the least. In fact, she seems even more mobile these days. She should remain on a glucosamine/joint supplement and may need meds for pain management as she continues to age. Like most pitties, she has some itchy skin and does well on a daily allergy medication and may need something stronger during peak allergy seasons (medicated shampoo or cytopoint). She recently had a dental cleaning, had several mammary masses removed, and is feeling and looking better than ever! Ham (Clarabelle) is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! She has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is also perfectly house-trained! Interested in adopting her? Story
MEET GOUDA! Gorgeous girl Gouda is estimated to be around 10 years old and was found tied to a tree in Philadelphia back in November before being brought to the animal control shelter. She quickly won the hearts of the shelter staff and volunteers because her affectionate, smooshy, laidback personality. Gouda looks to be a former mama dog is so deserving of the perfect retirement home where she doesn’t have to worry about being homeless again! Gouda is now living in foster care and has won all of our hearts as well. With her velvety gray coat and neck wrinkles, she sort of resembles a house manatee. In addition to being completely adorable, Gouda is also very affectionate and people-oriented. She’d love nothing more than to sit or sleep on your lap, or to squish you like a weighted blanket. Before you know it, you’ll be “nap-trapped” under her. Before she settles down, she likes to sniff faces and give chin kisses which on rare occasion can turn into a gentle chin nibble. She’s very charming! Gouda loves playing with toys. She chews on soft toys, flings and carries them around, and sometimes de-stuffs them. Because she can get a little mouthy and bouncy while playing, we think she’d do best with older or more dog-savvy kids. While she loves to entertain herself with toys, her play seshes are usually pretty short-lived before she’s ready for another nap. Gouda had several positive dog interactions while at the shelter but can be a bit reactive while on-leash now that she’s in foster care. We don’t believe that she doesn’t like other dogs, more that she hasn’t had a chance to interact with them much and not sure how to behave appropriately when seeing them on leash. She’d love for her future family to continue to help her build confidence while on walks and during stressful situations like vet visits (she does best with calming medications beforehand). Unfortunately, Gouda is too interested in cats and small animals so should not go home with them. Gouda is crate trained and goes into her crate on the command “kennel!” She sleeps in her crate at night for 8-10 hours and will whine to go outside when she wakes up. Gouda thrives on routine and is doing well with housebreaking and rarely has an accident without first letting you know she needs to go out. She’d love a low-key home who is looking for a sweet, snuggly dog who loves people and doesn’t require too much! Gouda has some age-related arthritis in her hind-end and takes a daily medication (Carprofen) which has helped improve her mobility immensely since coming to the rescue. She can happily jump up on the couch and go up and down the stairs. Gouda had surgery to remove mast cell tumors and received clean margins. She should be monitored for reoccurrence as she ages. She also had a badly needed dental cleaning with several extractions. Gouda is likely now feeling better than she has in a long time! Gouda is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire.
