Story
ABOUT MOO Moo is a 1 year old pittie mix that was found abandoned on our property. We tried to find her owner, but unfortunately no one came for her. Without any information, we knew exactly what to call her. Named because of her unmistakable spots and snorting noises, Moo is the goofiest girl around! All she needs is an active owner, willing to provide the endless belly-rubs she's been yearning for. Whether she's curled up in her kennel or zooming around our fenced fields, Moo always has her favorite toys right by her side! Her rough and tumble play-style keeps us all entertained. After she lets her energy out, she is quick to flop over at your feet for some love! Moo is very food and toy motivated to learn, making her the perfect student. She already knows basic commands and walks well with a harness. She is eager to please her friends and sure to win over your heart. Will you give this sweet girl a chance? **Moo is seeking a home as your only pet! If you are interested in adopting Moo, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

ABOUT MOCHA Sweet as chocolate, meet Mocha! She is a 5 year old terrier mix that loves all people. Mocha came to HAP when her owners were no longer able to keep a pet. Although she hasn't been here long, she quickly settled into the shelter and has been quite the volunteer favorite. Whether she's snoozing in her kennel or sunbathing outside, she is one happy girl. Mocha appears house-trained, walks well on a leash, and knows basic commands. She is most known for her wiggly butt, adorable tip-taps, and the biggest smile we've seen! Mocha has been a star in our Doggy Day Out program. Check out what our volunteers have to say about her: "Mocha was so fun today! She is really good on the leash with hardly any pulling. She enjoyed just sniffing around and loved sticking her head out the car window for fresh air. Her tail went crazy when she saw she was getting a much deserved pup cup. My favorite part is if you ask her for a kiss she will gladly take you up on it. She's a perfect passenger princess in the car and I was impressed with how well behaved she is. Only thing that bothered her were passing dogs, which is understandable because today was all about her. She is such a loving and easy going girl. Hope she gets adopted soon" - Samantha "Mocha had the best day today! She had so much energy and loved saying hi to every person she met! We went on a long walk and she met so many friends. After we had a long nap on the couch. Mocha is a bundle of joy and so lovable. She loves to cuddle up and bathe in the sun! Mocha was amazing today and love to see her again." - Juliana **Mocha is seeking a home as your only pet. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! ABOUT REINA This big, beautiful girl is looking to be your one and only furbaby! Reina is about 3 years old and came to HAP when her owners could no longer care for a pet. When she arrived, she was missing several chunks of fur and had severely irritated skin. We started her on medication and regular baths, to soothe her skin and she has since regrown the majority of her bright, white coat! Reina is not a fan of other dogs, so the shelter environment can be stressful for her at times, with a lot of barking and other dogs nearby. Despite this, once she is outside and away from the loud noises, she is very relaxed and her true personality shines! Reina is very affectionate with people and eager to please. She knows basic commands and appears house-trained too! **Reina is seeking a home as your only pet. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
IRELAND is a four-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier who, likes so many others, was a victim of the pandemic. Found tied to a fence in Philadelphia. When she was six months old, she was deprived of early socialization and, as a result, is unsure in public settings and meeting new people. She is reactive with other dogs, but she did have a Pomeranian friend when she was a puppy so possibly she could be acclimated to a calm male dog in the future but currently we are recommending her as the only pet in an adult-only household.  Ireland is an athlete! She can run and run and run for miles. Every car ride leads to adventure and she will readily jump in and ride shotgun. Once you’re in her circle, you are golden. Ireland has been spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for Heartworms and has been microchipped. We hope to keep her within comfortable driving range, so that there can be several meetings and a home visit leading up to the Adoption. Adoption $200. Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org if you are the active family that Ireland is looking for. May 6, 2024, 8:13 pm

Story
BRUNO is an almost 2 year old (estimated DOB 10-21-21) pit bull mix, who was rescued from a dangerous situation with his siblings and other dogs. He is a super sweet and active pup! Looking for a family that can keep up with an active dog and give him the RDA of mental and physical stimulation that he needs. We require a general obedience class of your choice as a part of the adoption to get everyone started in the right paw. Bruno prefers to be an only pet and loves people but seems wary of young kids so, while he is learning and gaining confidence, an adult-only home would be best. Bruno is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Apply to adopt at www.companimals.org. Adoption $250.May 6, 2024, 8:13 pm

Story
MISSY was adopted from us years ago (2016) but when her parents wanted to expand their family, they found that Missy was not good with the baby. As per our contract, Missy was returned to us. Missy is not the shy girl that we remember! Missy is friendly with adult people - she makes a wonderful best bud or copilot. Missy does need a home without small children or other pets (cats/dogs). She loves her daily walks! Missy also LOVES squeaky toys!  Missy is 7-8 years old, spayed and had her vaccines. She is also microchipped and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Missy would do well with an active family who can continue to take her on adventures. Apply at www.CompAnimals.org. Adoption $200.  Missy on a New Years Eve outing:  https://www.facebook.com/reel/249920241312651May 6, 2024, 8:13 pm

Story
PETEY's arrival with us was a bit of a mystery. He was found at a development down the road but we presume that he may have been dumped in our driveway and chased after his owner's car. It took the neighbors a few days to befriend him then he was brought to us.  Petey has come out of his shell and is a happy active boy. He had a microchip from a Midwest rescue that is out of business so we were not able to get any previous history. Petey does pull on the leash and is lacking house manners – e.g. he counter surfs - so his new family should expect some shenanigans while he's settling into his new routine. A basic obedience class would be a great way to start! Petey would do best as an only dog for starters. He may do well with a young female pup once he's settled in. Petey has been neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for heartworms.  He weight approximately 50 lbs. If you are looking for an active hiking partner and copilot, please apply by filling out our dog adoption application at www.companimals.org. Adoption $200May 6, 2024, 8:13 pm

Story
Graham is a very sweet and playful dog! He is one of our longest residents as he has been here since September of 2022! We took him on from another rescue, so he has not known much of the comforts of a home. He enjoys walks outside, playing with toys, and sleeping in crazy positions. He loves attention from anyone and everyone. He just wants to be loved. He would need a special owner who is understanding of his needs, as he was born deaf. In his ideal home he would be the only pet as he loves all the attention to himself. He would do well with kids 12+ that can understand the needs of a deaf dog. He would do best in a home with an active owner. His adoption fee is covered by an amazing sponsor who comes in at least once a week to teach him sign language and just spend some time with him. Please call 302-834-7387 or email crf@summit-vet.com to meet Graham!

Story
ABOUT DIOR Dior is a 2 year old terrier mix that loves her friends! Dior came to HAP in January, when she was found wandering as a stray in Wilmington. We were able to find her owner, but, sadly, they never came to reclaim her. Dior is confused to be here, but she is always sweet with our staff and volunteers. Dior is not a huge fan of other dogs, which has made the shelter environment extra stressful for her. She has been overlooked by adopters for her kennel presence, often seen barking or jumping. However, once she is out of her kennel and away from all the noise, she melts into an affectionate and goofy girl. Dior recently spent the day outside of the shelter, through HAP's Doggy Day Out program, where her true personality shined! Dior enjoys car rides and sprawling out in the backseat. She LOVED having a fenced yard to run around and get her zoomies out. Whether she is playing tug with you or tossing toys around on her own, she is super playful! After some exercise, she can be found leaning into the nearest person to soak up some love. She made a visit to our friends at Riverfront Pets to pick out a toy and some snacks, before heading back to the shelter. By the end of the day, Dior was snoozing away in her kennel, happy to have had such a fun and relaxing day! While Dior is seeking a home without other pets, she has previously lived with children and did well! She would likely do best with dog-savvy kids, as she has an energetic, silly playstyle! **Dior would need to be the only pet in your home. If you are interested in adopting Dior, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT ZOEY This lady is a very, very sweet girl. Zoey is a 5.5 year old boxer mix that is sure to melt her way into your heart and lap! She came to HAP when her owner could no longer care for her. Understandably, she was really depressed her first few days in the shelter, often found shaking in her kennel. She has since opened up, showing us how affectionate and smart she is. Zoey knows tons of commands, including 'sit', 'sit pretty', 'down', 'stand', and knows gives you both of her paws. She is very laid-back and walks beautifully with a harness. She enjoys her walks and loves to sniff everything! Zoey is friendly with dogs, but a calmer dog that can match her chill energy would be best. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals.
