Story
Meet Paige, a charming, petite pitbull terrier with a beautiful tan coat. Born around September 2022, she’s already spayed and up to date her vaccines, making her ready for her forever home. Paige is housebroken and crate-trained, showcasing her excellent manners. Full of energy, she thrives on playful activities and enriching mental stimulation. While she currently lives in an urban area, we believe she would absolutely flourish in a peaceful suburban or rural setting with a secure fenced yard. The city noises can be overwhelming for her, and a quieter environment would allow her to truly shine. We adore this delightful girl, and we’re certain you will too! Story
Luke is the kind of dog who lives for the joy of movement—ears flying, paws pounding, tail wagging as he races around a yard without a care in the world. At just 4 years old, this white mixed-breed terrier is bursting with energy and heart, and he’s ready to share it all with a family of his own. Luke is looking for a special home: adult-only or older dog-savvy teens, where he can be the only pet, and with a fenced yard for him to run and run to his heart’s content. After a day of play, he’s a fantastic car companion, sleeps soundly in his crate, and happily chews on a good bone. He even “watches” basketball on TV, cocking his head to the sounds of the game. But as unstoppable as Luke’s spirit is, his world is quietly changing—he’s losing his vision. It can’t be fixed, but it hasn’t slowed him down one bit. Luke doesn’t need expensive medical care or special treatment. He’s still the same vibrant, playful boy, ready to run, love, and live life to the fullest with the people who finally choose him. What Luke needs most is someone who sees beyond what’s fading and recognizes everything he still is: vibrant, loving, and ready to give his whole heart. Luke has waited long enough for his second chance. Could you be the one to give it to him? Apply today to give Luke the forever he’s been dreaming of: https://www.hart2heartanimalrescue.com/forms/form?formid=6527

Story
Booker T. is a big strong boy who always wears his heart on his back (literally!). He loves to sit and cuddle as much as he loves to run and play, and is always up for a nice long walk. He especially likes to bark at deer. He gets zoomy when he gets excited and flies around the house like a missile. He's jumpy around other dogs and sometimes gets a bit mouthy when he plays, so his ideal placement would be a quiet home without young children or other pets. He's worked with a trainer and loves learning; he can sit, go down, and stay like a champion, and we're currently working on loose-leash walking. He likes to chase and chew on tennis balls, and he's getting better at bringing them back. Give him his favorite blanket to chomp on and he'll happily "make biscuits" for hours. He's got a big nose for booping, a big belly for rubbing, and a big heart for loving.

Story
Sugar (ACCT-A-122549) came to ACCT Philly in September 2022 after being found abandoned on a property. She was adopted and spent about a year in a home before being returned in early 2024 due to her high energy and need for leash training. Since then, Sugar has been living in a committed foster home, where she’s made incredible progress and shown her affectionate, goofy personality. In her foster home, Sugar has blossomed into a loving, loyal companion. She adores cuddling on the couch, giving endless kisses, and spending quiet time with her people. She’s crate-trained, housebroken, and knows several commands including sit, down, stay, and leave it. She can be strong on leash but has improved greatly with the right harness. Sugar enjoys walks and occasional jogs, but she’s just as happy to curl up in her crate or under a blanket at the end of the day. Sugar’s ideal family will be one that understands her need for patience, structure, and continued training. She’s best suited to a home without small animals or small children and would thrive as the only pet or with a compatible male dog. While she can be nervous or reactive to new people or visitors, she warms up beautifully once she feels safe. Inside her home, she’s a total sweetheart—a snuggly, kiss-giving “low-rider” who just wants to be loved. Behavioral Notes Per foster 10/9- When I picked up Sugar my intention was to find her a home. Over the last 20 months that we've had her in our home we've discovered that Sugar will not be the easiest to place. She would need to have someone either VERY committed to training/working with her or someone with no other pets who's strong. She is a big puller on the leash and is very strong. She has gotten used to all of our pets but its taken this long and she still now has moments of 'wanting to chase and bark' at some of our cats that are outside. She's a big barker at guests, walkers, noises outside, and delivery people. She comes off like she wants to take someone out or bite them but in our home she is a big lover and couch potato. She also gives kisses.... A LOT of them! Lol. Unfortunately, outside the home or with strangers she does not come off this way. 12/26/2024 The foster said it was a mess it was generally started with her personal senior dog she sometimes does the if someone gets close to her she growls and the foster just took sugar bone away and they were both out but guess her dog got too close to sugars crate and sugar ran up and her dog snapped at sugar. The fosters personal dog ear got cut and sugar knew she did bad as she put herself in the crate. so far they have been fine and she has them separate and keeping high value away. but even with passing during outside time they have been good. this happened on Monday night. She does great with her male dogs. it all steamed from her dog starting it. Shes never guard against the foster. 12/13/2024 Foster notes that Sugar struggles with visitors, anyone at the door, people walking by the house, and even the horse-drawn buggies that pass daily. She would not do well in a city home with a lot of noise or distractions. Sugar barks nonstop when she hears these things, and it takes her some time to calm down. She can be difficult to manage, and while Foster has been working on redirection, Sugar is very challenging to redirect. At times, she needs to be physically removed from the situation to stop fixating on it. Foster has tried high-value treats, toys, and calling her name, but it doesn’t break the fixation. Additionally, Sugar does not do well with strange dogs, based on the few encounters they’ve had on walks. She is also a strong puller, so her handler needs to be able to manage that as well. Foster has had Sugar in foster care since February of this year. They worked with "Good Pup" on training tips during the first four weeks after they got her and continue to work with her as much as they can at home. However, Sugar is in need of more training. Foster noted, "She is very inconsistent with things, which makes her very unpredictable." Foster notes indicate that Sugar does well with one-on-one training and seems to be getting it, but as soon as there's a distraction, she doesn’t listen and can't be redirected. When Foster's (adult) daughter visits, Sugar continues barking until the daughter is out of sight. The minute the daughter walks away, Sugar lunges and nips but has never broken skin. She has exhibited this behavior with strangers and is people-selective. While inside the home, she is selective with her interactions. When outside, she barks and pulls heavily towards strangers. 04/01/2024 Per foster- Sugar is a cuddle bug that loves to give kisses, get treats, and go for walks or an occasional jog. She needs a family that will give her time to settle in and then continue working with her on her commands. She take a little longer to warm up. Her decompress time was about 3 weeks when she came here. She is very fearful of new people when they come in the house. Covering her crate helps with this until she calms down. Sugar needs a home that has no small animals or small children. She has warmed up to 2 of my cats over the last 2 months but I would never leave her off a leash around them. My other cats she still barks aggressively, and jumps at her crate at them. She does very well with our dogs, and they love to play and wrestle. She is a dominant female so she'd do great with a male dog or a non dominant female as her new family. She has shown no aggression towards food, toys, or dogs however due to us having to jeep her in her crate most of the time there really is not much exposure to this.... She is crate trained, and she also has completed 4 weeks with a trainer. She knows the commands sit, down, stay, and leave it. She is a strong, low-rider girl and can pull, but clipping her on the front of her harness has reduced her pulling . She has been improving every week as we've been working with her. She does get very easily distracted, so a family willing to continue to work with her will definitely help her and treats help, too. 01/28/2024 Sweet and energetic lady! Loved exploring the play yard. She sniffed all around and under the obstacles. She was very easy to leash and walk. Outside she was pretty energetic and not overly interested in me but accepted handling. When I took treats out she got super excited and jumped up for them but got down when I said off. Sweet lady! 01/05/2024 Took out with a volunteer - she presented socially in kennel and was easy to leash and take out. She walked with her tail between her legs and ear back. Once in the yard, she surveyed the area and her tail remained tucked. She lifted her paw 2-3 times while she was exploring. She sniffed a dog through the fence with a loose body and then had a good shake and her body language loosened slightly. She did not actively solicit attention, but did lean on her handlers and allow gentle petting. She was easy to return to kennel. 01/04/2024 Playgroup 1/4- Rocki was initially a bit barrier reactive at the fenceline with Trigga but was steerable and loose with the other dogs. Once in the yard she was nervous for the first few minutes with pinned ears, some lip licking, and low tail. She investigated and slowly greeted other dogs. After a couple minutes in the yard she shook off being more playful and would engage in play with Jade and Danny. She took Jade's corrections well. 01/03/2024 Eval 1/3. Adult-only home preferred due to nervousness with handling at first, can go to foster behaviorally. 01/02/2024 On owner surrender form, the owner wrote that Rocki will "attack" people and animals. When I asked what she meant she said Rocki jumps all over people when excited. She also indicated on OS form that Rocki "wants to attack and react" towards other dogs and cats. However, Rocki has lived with a mom cat and kittens for the past year and has never bitten or harmed them. She has never bitten/scratched another animal. Medical Notes 12/14/2024 EMAIL FROM FOSTER: Sugar tried anxiety meds but she said "they just seemed to make her tired" when I asked if they were effective since they ran out on 12/2. We're gonna get her set up with training, but if there's other medication you suggest her trying based off her behaviors let us know JN: Prescribed a different medication, can decrease dose if needed. 09/08/2022 This dog is bonded to cooper. Story
Meet Darienne (ACCT-A-239595)! She's estimated to be 2 years old and was described as friendly by her finder. As a younger dog she's got a lot of energy and enjoys romping around, but once play time is over she's ready to focus on listening to commands for treats! Videos: Darienne likes her stuffed toy: https://youtube.com/shorts/2EP8-BB-0f0?si=veXuMhQU5lHrzyzI Darienne knows sit: https://youtube.com/shorts/dojOkmHWWlY?si=q2Fkx31T-mN5qOGi Behavioral Notes: Per volunteer 12/29/2025: Dariannne is an adorable little girl that hadn't been out in a couple of days. When she saw me, she jumped on her kennel door and gave me a pitiful look, so she was next on my list of dogs to walk. She was easy to leash came right out, no issues walking and no strong pulling. It was cold and dark, so after a short time in the yard, we spent most of our time in the grooming room. In both areas she spent time investigating all the smells. I don't recall seeing her pee or poo so she might need a housetraining refresher. She has a cold, but still had a lot of fun playing with rope toys and a stuffed toy, and getting treats. She got excited when I showed her the treats and did jump up, but soon calmed down. For a while I didn't think she knew sit, but finally she showed me she could sit when asked, and she takes the treats so nicely. She's a medium sized girl waiting to find a home filled with fun and love! Per staff 12/25: Kennel Presentation: Standing on her bed when I approached. Soft eyes, ears back and mid wagging tail. Leash Skills: Easy to leash. Pulled mildly through the kennel, wanted to go up to the other dogs kennels. Her body was loose, mid/high tail wagging and ears back. Outside she pulled mildly, started to pull a little harder the closer we got to the grass and pen area. Sociability: Allowed handling but did not lean it to it. Stood still and then did a shake off. Spent most of the time romping around the yard. She saw another dog in the other yard and she was at the fence with loose body language. Play: Did not interact with the toys. Dog Interaction: Saw a dog in the yard, as we were leaving the pen she pulled harder towards the pen. I was able to call her and she walked away and went back to walking with a slight pull. Return to Kennel: Went right into her kennel and unleashed without issue. Per Staff 12/18: Very high energy, jumpy, whining and pulling hard on leash. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Story
*New Video 1/3* ACCT has a large dog rescue incentive going for dogs over 40lbs tagged by January 10th, and Zubair is eligible! He will have a grant of $750 go to the rescue partner that takes him. Zubair ACCT-A-239032 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Zubair must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, or ADOPTER by Thursday, January 8th, 2025 at 10AM. Should Zubair’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Zubair is a senior male dog who was surrendered after spending five years with his owner, and he is now available for adoption or rescue. Despite the big change in his life, Zubair has shown himself to be an incredibly resilient, affectionate, and lovable companion. Staff and volunteers consistently describe him as a sweet, happy old guy who enjoys getting out for walks, greeting other dogs, and soaking up attention. He is fully house trained, walks nicely on leash (with the occasional pull when something smells especially interesting), and knows how to sit—especially when hot dogs are involved! In the yard, Zubair’s playful side shines as he happily carries stuffed toys or a ball around before coming back for pets, butt scratches, and snuggles. While Zubair does have some age-related medical needs, he is comfortable and continues to enjoy life. He has chronic otitis externa in his left ear, worn and fractured teeth, and pigmented skin growths on his prepuce and surrounding skin that should be monitored by an outside veterinarian. He is currently being treated with ear medication and is cleared to remain available for adoption with a medical and dental waiver. While dental extractions or biopsy/removal of the skin growths are not required at this time, they should be discussed with a future veterinarian. Zubair would thrive in a calm, loving home that appreciates a senior dog who still has some pep in his step but also loves to relax and be close to his people. He has shown appropriate behavior around other dogs, even in moments of tension, and continues to impress staff with his gentle, forgiving nature. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a big heart, soulful eyes, and a love for toys, walks, and cuddles, Zubair is ready to spend his golden years by your side. Went to the bathroom as soon as we were outside so likely potty trained. He walked nicely on the leash but did pull when he wanted to smell something. He knows sit, likes hot dogs and will happily sit for them without being asked. In the play yard he found each stuffed animal and carried it around. He solicited pets, likes butt scratches and put his paws on my lap for snuggles. 10/10 good boy! Per staff 12/27: Zubair was in an altercation in playgroup with Dodge, but he restrained himself despite Dodge overreacting twice in succession very quickly. Per staff 12/22/25: Meet Zubair! He was surrendered to the shelter on 12/10 and has been a very resilient sweetheart. His owner noted him to be super friendly and fully house broken. Since arriving to the shelter, Zubair has shown us that just because he's a senior does not mean he's ready to slow down and stop having fun! He's still got plenty of energy and loves getting out for walks with staff and volunteers. per volunteer 12/22: I took zubair out yesterday for a walk. What a sweet boy, he does not jump at all! Walks so nice on leash. I found it best to open palm treats or he did awesome with catching . He loved pets and back scratches. Zubair's walksheet as of 12/13: 12/12- No issues reported except for slight issues with jumpiness. Medium energy. Handlers commented: "Interested in other dogs. Housetrained." 12/13 - No issues reported except for slight issues on leash. Per staff 12/13/25: blue sticker on kennel card - VOL said she will submit notes. Overall said Zubair was a wild old man with lots of energy and is a bull in a china shop. he was sweet with her but can be a lot of energy Per owner 12/10 (has had Zubair for 5 years, but is no longer able to care for him due to incarceration): Super friendly, fully housebroken, medium to high energy, crate trained, great on leash, enjoys playing with balls, shy towards strangers, curious towards children, playful towards cats. Story
Cody is a loving and loyal animal who is very energetic and loves to run and chase tennis balls. He cannot be around smaller animals and would do best as a single pet. He gets along well with our female older pit but he has recently been starting to go after her and has bitten her more than once while redirecting his aggression due to other dogs. He has been to a 6 week board and train program and listens well. He is highly food motivated and he loves to chew toys and bones and sicks. Ideally he would be the only animal. He is not people aggressive and is very gentle with our young daughters. He has a lot of energy and would be the perfect partner for a runner or someone who takes long walks.

Story
Buster was found running down the road. We found out that he was adopted from a shelter, but the lady couldn't keep him, so she gave him away and apparently, they didn't want him either. He's a good boy just looking for his forever family. He is 5 months old and gets along with everyone. If you would like to add Buster to your home, please respond by using the big black button marked " Ask About Me" and we will send you an application. These dogs are being fostered in TN but included in your adoption fee is transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal-friendly transport on the road.
