Story
Juno is sweet cuddly dog that loves people and kids. She is a rescue and does have some issues, she was subjected to some abuse early in her life that has left her with a lot of issues with anxiety. This anxiety manifests itelf as severe aggression to other dogs that training has not helped with. when I adopted her, I had the space and time to take care of her needs, but a move and a job-change later and she just needs more space and care than I can provide to her. She will need a patient and loving family to fully take care of her but she is so totally worth it.

Story
Hope is being fostered in LA. Hope is a sweet and happy girl. She does have some vision loss. Hope had her annual last week and she did good. We went to a new vet in our new town and she was a big hit there. Hope is always very friendly to everyone she meets. Hope loves to ride and does pretty good on a leash with a halter on. Hope can still be picky about other female dogs so we are very careful when introducing her to new ones. Hope could be someone's couch potato or someone adventure buddy. Hope is very strong and muscular. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Meet Snowball, a big ball of energy! Although she has endured neglect in the past, this four-year-old pup is extremely fond of people - from her handlers to new acquaintances and even children. Snowball enjoys running in the yard, playing, going for walks, and receiving belly rubs. She is intelligent and loves training with her handlers in our dog training class. This clever gal takes pleasure in the company of both humans and other dogs. She is filled with a zest for life, but she also enjoys a good cuddle and nap. Like vanilla frosting, Snowball is a crowd pleaser and works well in any situation!

Story
Meet Morrone, our delightful, wiggly bundle of joy! This playful pup is all about fun—whether it’s romping around or showing off his tricks for tasty treats! Morrone was discovered as a stray and rescued by a kind-hearted soul who brought him to the local animal shelter. That's where we found him, and we just couldn't resist welcoming him into our amazing 10-week prison training program! Morrone was brought to the city shelter as a stray, gentle, curious, and surprisingly well-mannered for a pup who had clearly been through so much, with missing fur, scabs, and a bad cold that quickly turned into serious pneumonia. After joining the PDP program, his condition worsened and he stopped eating, so he was rushed to Blue Pearl, where he spent a week in the hospital recovering in an oxygen chamber and charming every staff member with his sweet spirit. Despite everything he faced, he never stopped believing that better days were coming, and they did! Today, he’s a whole new dog. Healthy weight, shiny coat, bursting with energy, and more confident every day. Now he goes to “work” with his handler in the prison, eager to learn, eager to love, and so ready for a forever family to see the brave, joyful soul he truly is.

Story
MEET PUMPKIN! If you’re looking for an easy addition who is currently in foster care with other dogs and cats, Pumpkin might be your girl! Not to mention, she and her block head are very easy on the eyes. Have we mentioned THE EARS? Pumpkin joined us from a local animal shelter where she was surrendered due to her previous owners’ health needs. Judging by her well-rounded personality that Pumpkin was well loved over the years so we hope to find her a home where she’ll be just as cherished for her next chapters! Pumpkin is the perfect age at around 7-8 years old which gives you the benefits of a lazy couch potato with a side of daily zoomies and a love of walks. Pumpkin loves to go for car rides (windows down), enjoys walks and walks well on-leash though does get excited when she sees other dogs and wants to interact. When she’s not going for walks or loafing around, Pumpkin enjoys watching TV (really, she tries to pay attention! Wednesday Addams seems to be a favorite). Pumpkin is currently in foster care with other pets. She gets along very well with everyone and even tries to get the cats to engage and play every now and then, but these particular cats aren’t too interested in play. Pumpkin is good about taking their cues and backing off. Pumpkin also doesn’t seem to have met a human she doesn’t love. If you’re looking for a goofy, friendly blockhead, consider Pumpkin! Pumpkin has received a full veterinary workup since joining the shelter. She was treated for skin allergies which pitties tend to deal with. She may benefit from a long-term allergy medication, especially during allergy-season. She has shown to be an otherwise healthy dog, obviously well loved and cared for over the years. Pumpkin is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Story
MEET HAM! Her shelter name is actually Clarabelle but we refer to her as ‘Ham’ because it perfectly fits her fun, squishy personality and piggie body type. Ham is around 10 years old and was brought to Philly's animal control shelter as a stray, though it's suspected that the person who brought her in was her original owner. Ham was actively lactating, had bite wounds around her neck, and pressure sores on her legs. Because she was already fighting infection and then stressed in the shelter, she developed severe pneumonia and almost didn't make it back out. Luckily, her sweet little face caught her foster family’s heart, and she was swept off to the ER and a new life of safety with City of Elderly Love. She has since made a full recovery! Since coming to the rescue in December 2024, Ham has gone through quite the transformation. She has completely recovered from her stint of homelessness and had all of her medical needs addressed. Since losing some unnecessary weight and recovering physically and emotionally, Ham has blossomed into a spunky, joyful, medium-energy girl who loves to do zoomies through the house and yard just as much as she loves to curl up under a heated blanket. Ham loves to meet new people and has always been a social girl. She is not currently living with kids but we think she’d do well in a home with older kids who might not mind this little house hippo zooming by them during playtime. We can’t wait to see this squishy, hilarious girl complete one lucky family! Ham is currently in foster care on a small hobby farm with many other animals but we think she’d be happiest in a home without pets. She doesn’t love to share her space with other dogs and can be reactive to them on walks. She shows too much interest in smaller animals and may be too pushy in her approach with them. Given that Ham has likely had several litters in her younger years, it seems she’d prefer to spend her golden years being the sole center of attention, which is fine! Ham’s ideal home would be outside the hustle and bustle of the city where she can lounge in the sun in her own yard and take leisurely strolls through the park. Ham has an old torn CCL in her knee which healed on its own at some point but causes a bit of arthritis now but it doesn’t slow her down in the least. In fact, she seems even more mobile these days. She should remain on a glucosamine/joint supplement and may need meds for pain management as she continues to age. Like most pitties, she has some itchy skin and does well on a daily allergy medication and may need something stronger during peak allergy seasons (medicated shampoo or cytopoint). She recently had a dental cleaning, had several mammary masses removed, and is feeling and looking better than ever! Ham (Clarabelle) is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! She has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is also perfectly house-trained! Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!
