Story

We adopted Chahta into the family after he was rescued from a crated breeding situation. Our intentions were to take him with us to our forever country home in Alabama. However, plans were derailed in May 2024 with my oldest son being diagnosed with cancer. He was his support pet, best friend, and quiet protector. Fast forward to November 2025 and we recently memorialized my son. This is hard to write, however we would love for Chahta to go to a forever home. Teenagers and adults would be best. He has ptsd when crated but is very lovable. He is excellent with cats, but will need time with other dogs. He loves to cuddle on the couch or at your feet. He will also sleep alongside you in the bed or on the floor. We are heartbroken from losing our son and now having to rehome Chahta. We didn't want him to go to a shelter. We wouldn't be able to sleep, however we are unable to care for him and that is unfair to him. Anyone with a yard, loving arms, patience and kindness will be excellent.

I rescued Chief from my son who had two other dogs at the time. The first night at my son's Chief immediately bonded with his new little human, my 4yr old granddaughter. Unfortunately, with now 4 dogs (Chief was found abandoned in my son's yard with his sister Georgia), my son was not able to sustain, so I decided to help. With the curve balls in life, I recently sold my home and it is impossible to find somewhere to rent due to the unfortunate reputation this breed has. So here we are... He is 18 months old and loves to eat and cuddle with his humans. Doesn't bark, so he might not make the best guard dog but he will smother them. He is house broken and also kennel trained. I am looking for a home that will love and spoil him. Children are a bonus. His start in life has already been traumatizing and it breaks my heart knowing I am having to make this choice, so ensuring he will be in the right household is crucial.

She came to us as Scout but we think a better fit would be Sunshine or Sunny. She is such a happy, happy dog! With no available fosters, Scout has been living at a day and pet care center. The kennel staff are so fond of Ms Scout. She loves to give kisses and get petted. Scout is particular about the canine company she keeps. Volunteers take her on long walks on golf cart paths that wind through the woods. She's a curious girl, her tail is up and she has this cute prance. She enjoys these walks. Sometimes, she gets to stop and cool her belly in a little stream but often she just starts rolling all over getting coated with dirt and sand....it's a treat to watch her enjoy herself so much. Back from the walk, in a grassy area she plays tug of war and chase and plays army low crawl with her volunteer. She also just loves to sit and watch all the people and dogs coming and going at the center. Play time ends with Scout licking peanut butter off her volunteer's hand.....fun for both. Scout can be quite energetic and as with many other dogs is mouthy when she plays, but is easily redirected. Scout is very smart. She will flourish with someone who understands canine behavior, who loves her, sets boundaries, establishes routines, and plays with her. The best home is where Scout is the only dog and one without children or cats. Scout needs an experienced handler, she is spayed and roughly 9 and a half years old.
